When I found out that Robbie died, I believed Brad would have a hard time, however he seems to be much worse than I thought he would be. Maybe Robbie was right, Brad is not as strong as we think. I understand his is the greater loss, but still he seems to be getting worse not better. When we look at the family, Will is doing pretty good. Maybe it is because Robbie and Jeanine both made him promise to take care of Maddy and Brad. However I believe Will is stronger than Brad. Brad's childhood scared him very deep, is he that bad kid who can't do anything right? As much as I was upset with Robbie at times, he was stubburn, he still was a loving forgiving person, who could give the best hugs ever. He also was able to read people and know when they needed him. He made people he loved feel safe. That is itself is a great talent. The other person I worry about is Wade. Losing his father, Robbie and dealing with his evil mother all at the same time has got to be hard. Wade is strong but that is a lot to deal with. even though he is like JP I don't think he is as strong as JP. Maybe that is because JP has had much more loss in his life than Wade. The people that have impressed me the most are Darius, JJ and JP. Darius has stepped up, that maybe to deal with the grief but still he has been impressive. JJ also is dealing with it, not the basket case I thought he would be. The one good thing that has come from this is the three brothers have become much closer and more open with each other. For the first time in a long time they seem to be on the same page. Finally, JP, who moved heaven and earth to protect his broken family. There are no words, none to describe him. He was able to bury the pain and do what was needed to be done. When I think about the person he was at the beginning of the CAP saga and the person he is now, all the people he lost all the sadness, all the pain, I wonder how he made it though everything. We think of Robbie as a hero, and he was, but in a quiet way JP is a hero too.

It is going to be a very hard month. All those services, those memorials. So hard. It seems that Will is doing much better. It maybe he has taken those two promises to heart. Taking care of Maddy and his dad. A lot for a 15 year ago. Brad, however, is not doing well. His loss is closer than all the rest. He is also the only parent left for his three sons. Hopefully Cody will help him get through it. I think the lack of a body will be hard on everyone. Darius has stepped up to organize everything. It was also great to see Jeff again. I was hoping he would come back. I always liked him. Thanks for the Sunday morning present. It is always good to see a new chapter.

Only one piece left, Lord Granger, himself, It is good the see the remaining crew going home. After this voyage they need to go home. It is also good to see Calvert has redeemed himself. I am also glad Winkler and Jacobs have found each other. Thankfully, something good has come from all of this. I can only hope, that this homecoming is better than the last one. Thank you Mark, even though we have been worried about our CAP family, George is always on our mind too. We miss him and his brave crew. Thanks again!!

Greif is strong, the loss is deep, I am hoping that the family will channel their loss into a fitting memorial for the lost. Nan was right in bringing someone in to help. Again JP showed the way when he talked about Jeff Hayes. It will be a hard road, but maybe some good can come from this. I can see the rebuilding of ground zone could be a cause which the family could use to recover. The interaction of Wade and his mother gave me hope even for their relationship. If that happen I think Jeff would be happy too. Thanks again Mark for a chapter which begins the healing.

From the time the first plane hit until now, we as readers, have been on the edge of our seats. What you have done is brought us back to that awful day. We were in the towers, trying to get out, praying that we didn't not lose anyone. The horror of the day lived again. Even if we only saw it on TV from thousands of miles away, we were there. Now we have to live with the aftermath of that day. The loss, the pain, the shock. Only your skill in story telling could have brought us this story in the way you did. Yes some are upset with Robbie's death and to lesser degree Hank, Jeanine and the others, but as we morn them, we can see the best in these characters we love. Will's thoughtful act at the hotel, to the comforting his dad or JJ. The strength of JP to protect his broken family. An amazing story in the middle of such horror and sadness. It must have been so hard to write, but it easily has been your best work. It been a hard week for all of us but we thank you for helping us through it.

Knowing that he might not make it, he went back risking everything and all that he loved. That says something about him. Darius and Will thought the firemen were brave. I think their Pop was just as brave maybe more.

Reactions to this loss: I think you've seen the beginnings, when Billy ( Claire's twin) died Brad didn't cry. those are the people who have the most problems down the road. When my mother died in 1978, I was 27 and I got through everything because of my stepfather and then fell apart after. Like JP I knew we wouldn't be able to make it through those days if I feel apart. People act differently with death. Even the hardest person to read JJ I think is a lot stronger than we think. Just from the short part we got from him. At first he was withdrawn, then he remembered that this family loved him. How bad everything has with his coach, it gave him the strength to make it through hard times.

I think the Senator knew that and maybe he divided his property up giving Wade Goodwell, and the other two the remaining parts of the estate. I would think he wrote a new will just after the divorce. . As for Robbie I think he give Darius and Will his stock in the company they were going to be on the board Nonvoting members before this. Any other assets would be divided between JJ and Matt.
-
I am sorry to say this, but Mark was right in that the death of Robbie, Jeanine, and the senator open the story up tp a lots of plot twists. What is true here as well as in life, one action creates or limits other actions. While I was sadden as we all were with the family's loss, think of all the possibilities Cody and Maddy, Will and Maddy, Wade and Elizabeth, Wade and Brad and a lot more. On an other note, I would like to reecho my admiration for JP. No one I know, could have done what he did. The security of his family was number one. I am sure he called on some favors and saved those who were left. It is too bad we don't see the man behind the shields more. He has always been one of my favorite character. As David would say he is the story, without him where is no story.

I think it was Tonto who said years ago that JP was the best person to have in times like this. It was interested to see Brad transformed from a mess into a strong protector of the family. Think of what it must have taken for JP to get them out of the city and all the way to Goodwell. I can not remember how long the planes were grounded, A friend of mine was in San Franisco for a conference a couldn't get back. I asked for Wade and now we had him. The whole family, together safe at Goodwell. Grieving together. It is going to be hard for them to carry on, but they will. Thank you Mark for swiftness of these chapters. It is hard for us to wait when the family is hurting. Well we are hurting too. Now the healing begins. I think Darius will join the Navy to avenge Robbie's death. Maybe Gathin too. Thanks again Mark these are some of the best work you have ever written, even though it was awfully sad, you brought the horror to us and made us relive that terrible day!

Please forgive me, but why does Robbie's death affect us so much? More than the others? He was there in the center of the story since Brad met him almost 25 years ago. I didn't always agree with him, sometimes I was upset with him, but he always was able to forgive and be forgiven. Will called him the glue which held Brad's family together. Who will do that now? Brad once wondered if he would be able to survive the losses JP had to live with. Now we will see if he can. Robbie's death hits us to the core. It was not just something that happen to people we did not know, but Robbie was a friend someone we cared about. Someone we will miss. Long ago Jeff Hayes died. Readers were upset about that, but this is different. Robbie was thinking more about others than himself. That was who he was. Are we sad Robbie is gone? Yes! We are not only upset for his death but also upset for the family which he leaves behind. The family will have to work together more than ever before to make it through. They will have to be strong, very strong. So we ask goodbye to Robbie, as we must, but remembering who he was, the kind, loving, selfless person. He was not perfect, but an outstanding partner, father and friend, and hero! What more can we say?

I understand your explanation, but it still makes me sad., and maybe that is the point of it.

Chapter 38: Survivors and Victims
rjo commented on Mark Arbour's story chapter in Chapter 38: Survivors and Victims
What does one say? What can one say? I am not sure about a Hayes curse or that Robbie just couldn't leave them, Was he a hero or foolish? Like so many that day, I think a hero. I guess of all the people in the saga I will miss his the most. Sometimes he was hard to live with, but he was always worth the effort. I was still hoping Robbie would make it out but it was not to be. I guess in the end there is just a feeling of sadness. So sad. Now the hard part begins, picking up the pieces and beginning to life again. I'm glad they get to talk at the end. Saying goodbye is so important. Thank you Mark for three chapter which must have been hard to write. You did justice to the event and the day. That awful day. -
I woke up early and waited for the last chapter to post. first I must say Mark your skill in dealing with this day this event is unbelievable. The many points of view, the shock, the indecition, the confusion all of it. I have to believe that Stef and Brad will make it out of the north tower. Hopefully, Darius and Will with Maddy in tow will make it from the south tower. If this happens, and Jeanine, Hank, Robbie and the senator are lost, two things come to mind, the lose of Robbie will hurt Brad the most. Will once said Robbie was the glue which holds the family ( Brad's part of the family) together. The second is the promises. Will is the type of person which will do everything he can to keep those promises. In some ways it will help him to grow up faster. If that is possible. I worry the most about Brad. I am not sure he will make it. His relationship with Robbie has been rocky in the last few months. Hopefully the family will pull together. I like the idea that Claire and Jack would help raise Maddy.( Thanks Tim) That way she would be close to Will. We still have not heard from Wade. Wouldn't it be awful for Wade and Matt to lose both of their fathers on the same day.
-
Sorry my internet has been down. I feel you have caught all the characters so well. I remember that day so clearly. Only your skill can catch all the feelings of that day. As the others said I can't believe that we are losing Jeanine, Hank, and the Senator but losing Robbie is going to be hard on the whole family. What will Brad do? The another thing that comes to me is the promises that both Jeanine and Robbie asked of Will. Knowing what kind of person Will is he will take these promises seriously. So much for a young man of only 15. This will change everything and everyone. We still have not heard from Wade. Both Wade and Matt losing their fathers on the same day how awful. I pray we don't lose anymore characters.

Just like CAP the people are gathering Granger in Paris, Winkler and Jacobs with Lord St.Vincent and Travis coming up the coast of Africa.. Who will make it first. Knowing Mark you never know. Thank for another great chapter.
-
This is driving me crazy. In less than 15 hours the world is changed forever. I wonder where in the North tower are Brad and Stef going to be? Wade and the group will be stuck some place on a grounded plane. Hopefully Will and Darius with get out of the south tower in time. As we get closer to the date it gets harder to wait, I am glad Stef and Will have made peace.. I hope JP and Stef get to do that too. We can only hold our breath and hope for the best. It is hard reliving that awe full day.

As the count down begins and the day gets closer, who would you want to die? How would that death change those who remain? In life there are people who we may not like from time to time but who would want them died? David hoped that no one would die. Even though I am upset with Brad and Stef, having them die is something I could not do. Remember, I was upset when George Granger was captured. At this point it would be upsetting to lose Hank. She has helped Jeanine recover. Sharon was ready to throw JJ under a bus, however now he has turned into a loyal and caring brother. Robbie has redeemed himself. To lose JP and Will would be unthinkable. Mark has honestly put to much into Will to lose him now, as for JP this is his story if we lost him the story would end. There are times I wish Tonto was still alive, I think she would love Will more than everyone else and be even more a defender than JP is. What she would say to Brad and Stef can't be said here, but they would not like it at all. Who should die and who should live? I am glad Mark has to make that verdict. I would not want to do that. In all these stories, through the whole saga, only The Box had this feeling of doom. I wanted Steven to live, and come to see how JP and his son turned out. Now that it is only days away the feeling is overpowering. I hope the chapters come quickly. Waiting and not knowing is hard on all of us.

Well the people are flying in and every thing is getting together for the happy event. Was the Marriott in the World Trade Center in one or two WTC or near them? I'm assumed you are not killing off all the characters and ending the story now. Since JP and Will are telling this story I am hoping they make it through 9 11. I think Brad is going to try to push Jeanine but I think she is much stronger now and sees Will is happy the way he is. Maybe this will show Brad and Stef that their games are so petty compared to what will happen in only a few days. I hope so. PLEASE DON'T KILL OFF JP AND WILL!!
-
I think that when Robbie found out about JJ and his coach his whole approach changed. Tim used the quote from Mark Twain awhile back. It maybe truer than one thinks. Robbie has learned from his mistakes and become a better person and a better parent. I am hoping Brad will learn something too.

As the world seems to be falling apart in the real world, it is good to see someone like Lord Granger. George's background does him well. It is good to see him treated so well. Hopefully, that will continue. I think that George speaks French helps, but what is even more important is that he is kind and noble. Hopefully, he will be able to return to England. Just so you know I have been waiting for this chapter, worrying what would happen to Lord Granger. Wonderful chapter!

What is so interesting, so amazing is the power of Mark's writing. Just look at us his readers. We argue back and forth, what should happen. Who is wrong or right. Why? It comes down to one thing how real these characters seem to us. They jump off the page. They have the power to make us laugh or cry,. They make us angry and sad, happy but they never bore us. We care about them . We came here day after day, some times many times a day. Waiting for the next chapter. Seeing what will happen to them. Hoping for the best and praying to avoid the worst. I for one can't thank and his team enough for their work Thank you, Thank you, Mark!

I am sure that both Stef and Brad think they are doing the right thing. However if they continue as they have, no mater if they are right or wrong. They will lose. Lose Will. Lose JJ and Darius. Lose Robbie. and Stef will lose JP. All the money in the world will not make up for that. So was the victory worth it?

Again Brad's win at all costs, to hell with the out come.
