All J. Edgar wanted was Stef's phone number. He'd heard of Stef's fabulous fashion sense and he was hoping for some tips for his annual trip to the Hotel del Charro in La Jolla. Rumor has it that it was Stef who convinced J. Edgar that feather boas were not a good look for him.

Mark was referring to the events that transpire in the sequel to Chronicles Of An Academic Predator, the book, 1968. What I will never understand about any CAP character is how you can be so deeply, head over heels (or heels over head in gay love stories) with someone and then hit on every man that crosses your path. When I am in love, I really only want to be with the person I love. I guess I am more like Wade, who seems to be the same.
-
Maybe I'll understand later what happens with Jeff, I don't remember how we get to where we are going.

I don't get why JP likes Kennedy. When Eisenhower left office there were less than 1,000 U.S. troops in country in Vietnam. By the time Andre as killed, there over 11,000 U.S. troops in country in Vietnam in less than two years. If U.S. troop levels had stayed under 1,000 there is no chance Andre would have been at risk.

If he fucked her, it would technically be OK, but on the moral scale, it would be a massive transgression. The what scale? The guy who stopped a rape only to finger fuck the victim wants to discuss a moral scale? These poor people are being uprooted and relocated, and it makes them hate their government and, by extension, hate us as well. The Viet Cong couldn't have asked for an easier task, integrating and co-opting these peasants Well it makes all the sense in the world when you realize that the man in charge of the South Vietnamese SHP, Colonel Phạm Ngọc Thao, was a commie double agent and he deliberately designed the program to precisely make the peasants hate the RVN.

See, here is one of the problems of moral relativism and no set standard of values..... you can't judge anyone else for their behavior. How is a man whore, serial rapist, child abuser and unprofessional lout going to judge anyone else?
-
Oh gawd, bring back the abuse and torture..... I'd rather have that than a 26 year old Ph.d being cloyingly sweet and goo goo over a high school senior.

Yeah, Division I wrestlers in 1962 were going to a hospital and say there had been a man's dick in their ass...... a 5'7", 130 pound man..... There was no DNA testing in 1962. I do agree with others though that JP, for how smart he is, is making horrible decisions. But that is part of the problem when morality and values are seen as relative. With Mallory you could have written it off as a one time, temporarily insane kind of thing, but now there is a pattern, and not a pleasant one. And as if that isn't bad enough, JP's getting involved with Tom Hartford is obviously a terrible idea and a massive ethics violation. The stuff with Boyd could send JP to prison, the stuff with Hartford could ruin his carefully constructed career.

“I love you too Jeff, more than I can say. But if we make some big commitment now, well, what happens if one of us has too much to drink and fucks up, or more to the point, fucks someone else?” Okay, seriously.... it has been 20 days since that other guy.... what was his name? You know.... that guy JP kind of liked sort of.... passed away. If I lost my soulmate, I'd be in a dark place for months, maybe much longer. On a different topic, not a chance a wrestler from "the South" makes Northwestern's wrestling team, lot alone two wrestlers from "the South". Northwestern's wrestling team in 1962 would be wrestlers from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota. Should have made them baseball players.

"There’s a small cadre of people who own all the land and the rest are peasants. The communists appear to offer a solution to that, while the capitalists, us, are defending the big landowners and the status quo.” The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

JP had no idea he'd have four children one day. He also had no idea he'd be at Stanford eventually. No one knew what the future held, but obviously the stock was no surprise to Jim, because he knew Jack changed to amount. I think the split window 'vette is ugly as sin.
-
He assumes the mantle after his father and that generation are dead and he and Stef have the money to give back in Claremont. JP was always the king in Palo Alto.
-
"oh my gawd, the love of my life, my soulmate is dead, I found out yesterday, fuck me, new love of my life" I think I'd spend more time grieving and less time getting plowed.

JP could have gone Claremont the weekend BEFORE Andre arrived to let Jeff know how important he was. JP was selfish. Shit happens. Life isn't fair. Andre made his choice. Others in this story do too. It sure helps to have a few million to ease your pain. How about the poor people whose baby gets cancer. https://www.instagram.com/luna_perrone/

Manwhore? John Paul is 26 and has been with like 8 men. His grandson William had 56 men bagged by his 16th birthday. He'll be at 60 by the end of Gap Year. We had this discussion in another story. The U.S. was absolutely in the right in Vietnam. While the government of South Vietnam was far from perfect, the Communist government of North Vietnam was seeking to remove all freedoms that the Vietnamese people enjoyed and used the terrorist group Viet Cong to slaughter their own people. After the U.S. removed troops and the North broke the Paris accords and invaded the South, the North didn't throw a party and hand out ice cream cones. 2 million people fled the country, 300,000 went into concentration camps and 500,000 just disappeared. So no, the U.S. was not in the wrong. Because JP is probably realizing he should have been completely honest with Jeff. Then based on Jeff's reaction, JP should have driven or flown to Claremont that weekend before Andre arrived and shown Jeff he cared. Lastly, a U.S. Army Sergeant would never salute a civilian, except maybe the CIC.

And its 1, 2,3 what are we fighting for? Don't ask me I don't give a damn, The next stop is Vietnam, And its 5, 6,7 open up the pearly gates, Well there ain't no time to wonder why Damn that Kennedy sending our boys to Vietnam!

Seems to me Fred gets his ass kicked again later in the story.
-
Or is he a Predator of vulnerable people? I've already admitted to my own peccadillos in high school with drunk friends, but in fairness, they were my peers and assumed me to be as drunk as they were. That is more akin to JP's situation with Billy, but not Stef, Jeff, Jason, Scott. and Peter.
-
I've always been a contrarian, I guess that is why I became a lawyer, but I don't get why everyone loves Gail so much. She does somethings that are good and nice, other things.... enh. I'm also disappointed that JP betrayed Billy's confidence. He could have danced around the issue and still gotten Gail to Groton; she can do math, when the baby was born and did look like premmie, she'd know. And now that the damn has broken on JP's homosexuality, he's taking more and more risks to satisfy his libido. It isn't that he doesn't deserve happiness, but he is risk one happiness, that seems to be bigger than temporal happiness.

These last couple of chapters have made me think less of JP. It was okay to dig up the dirt on Jensen, even to send it to Jensen, but what he did with Mallory was inexcusable and incredibly dangerous to JP's future.
-
I don't get why JP would do this with Mallory. It seems so out of character for JP, a huge risk on so many levels and quite frankly cruel.
-
Andre was Soulmate 1.0. If circumstances allowed would there ever have been others? How long would a straight man remain committed to a gay one, especially in 1962?
-
Northwestern is a lot like Stanford, no dummies get in just to play football. In 1962 the head coach was Ara Parseghian, I am surprised you didn't use him in the story. The thing that keeps shocking me is the low cost of everything, $1,400 for a construction crew for a week's worth, $2.50 for breakfast and so on.
-
How does a 5'7" man surprise and kiss a man 6'5"? Jensen is easy to figure out. His time has come and gone and he resents those more talented and with a future.
-
Have I ever mentioned I am not a fan of Hayes men in general? Which Jeff is the real Jeff? The drunk bully (in vino veritas), Jeff the snuggler or the Jeff of the future?
