  1. Yes, Siggi needs a lot of help. Hopefully he's going to get that now that things blew over this way. Thanks for the review!

    Meetings

Gunni is lucky to have so many nice people around him, particularly now that Siggi's part of his life. He's going to need a lot of niceness to deal with the ass.

    Unexpected

Thanks for all the reviews! They made my day!
  4. When Monday’s rehearsal started, it soon became clear something wasn’t right. To begin with, even after one hour of our official start, there was no sign of Dmitri, Siggi, Karen or Gísli anywhere. Gummi seemed more distracted and anxious than usual, stopping us every couple of minutes because he had made a mistake. After those one and a half hours of rehearsing without four key players, he finally gave up and called a break, though he asked to speak to us before we left the stage. “As you have

Jó is one of those people who should be around every family. =P That disposition to hear and help others does make a lot of difference in people's lives. I'm glad it is showing in the story. Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the review! Gunni is definitely in a very good position with a strong support network around him. He'll really need that in the next chapters...
  7. “Siggi, you missed some great fun last night!” The bastard greeted me by dropping next to me on the couch and throwing his legs on my lap. He had not bothered to get properly dressed yet, so his other head was peeking out from its ridiculously loose confinement. “Actually, I have a very good sense of what you did last night. And so does Karen. And so does the whole street.” The chair on the other side of the room could do with a new occupant. Stupid dead weight on my legs. “Ah, well.” That g

Yeah, Jean has reasons to have turned out that way. I won't say anything else for the time being because SPOILER, but yeah, it's not something to be taken lightly.

  10. We were still at Emma’s party when Olivia convinced me to spend the rest of the exam period at her house. It had started as an innocent conversation about how Henry’s arms would finally be put in casts next week and it somehow evolved into a discussion about what to do during our last week of exams. Olivia, Henry and I would have Physics on Monday and Geography on Thursday. She wanted the three of us (though me in particular), to have regular study sessions at her house. She figured once Henry

In case you missed it before: WARNING: contain hints of child sexual abuse. Though this time around it's not so much a hint as an anvil figuratively (and painfully) dropping on your foot. As per usual, a safer summary can be found on the end notes. (...) “Hey, Oscar, long time no see! I miss you!” Jean called my mobile on Sunday. I had just retired to my room after dinner, so thankfully there was no risk of my parents overhearing us. “How have you been?” “Not bad. Just a bit busy,” I answere

Well, at least we're clear that Jó is a nice person. Gunni is definitely in good hands. I won't spill the beans about Dmitri yet. You can take your own conclusions from the next chapter onwards. Thanks for the review!

    Birthday

I'm glad you liked Jó's chapter. He definitely enjoyed writing it. Well, at least it's good that Eiri has someone like him, to compensate for his mother. Thanks for the review and I hope you like the next chapter too!

Oh, but a straight Jó wouldn't be a Jó! Jó is almost too nice for his own good. He's the kind of person who would take care of anyone (maybe not Siggi? O.o) And I don't see the logic of partners refusing the other's relative. Maybe it's me who's been brought up by a nice family? Thanks for the review!

    Debut

Argh, it's been a while since I replied to reviews... There will be more about Siggi in chapter 12, finally! As for his reaction... wait and see. O.o Thanks for the review!
  16. When I woke up the morning after my first concert I was at first confused because I found myself in a room that was not the one I had in Akureyri. I had been dreaming about playing violin with Little Isaac in my house in Akureyri. Our parents joined us at the piano and we were having a great time. So once my eyes opened, it took me awhile to realise I was in my new room in my cousin’s house. I slowly turned to look at the clock on my bedside table and the sleepy part of my brain was jolted awake

    Prelude

Actually Henry plans to use his feelings as soon as he gets "intimate" with Jean. Or something along those lines... O.o With the way things are going Oscar will probably be our first magnanimous liar. It kind of makes me proud of him, in a weird way. =P Thanks for the review!
  18. For those who missed the chapter note: this is the first guest chapter and is written from Jó's point of view. (....) It was a beautiful day outside; the sun was rising and there were no signs of clouds approaching. As I opened the curtains of our bedroom that morning I felt sorry for Eiri, who had to get up for work while it was still dark. He was missing such a spectacle! It was impossible not to be overwhelmed by the positive energy that engulfed the room as the sun slowly crept in. It was

    Prelude

My first week of exams was also my busiest: English, (which consisted of a writing test in the morning and reading/comprehension in the afternoon), on Monday, Chemistry on Wednesday, and Maths on Friday. After that there would be three weeks with one exam each, and in the last week I would have two tests. With one look at my schedule, my parents decided it would be better for me to spread my revisions so that in those one-exam weeks I revised for other subjects as well, mostly Physics and German
  20. I did not sleep much the night before my first concert. Even though Jó tried to make sure I was in bed considerably earlier than I needed to be, my mind kept examining all the possible outcomes for the next day instead of letting my normal dreams come. There were so many things that could happen, so many things that could go wrong, that I felt my entire body heat up as soon as the word ‘concert’ came to mind. “How are you feeling, Gunni? Did you have a good night?” Jó asked when I came down for
  21. Heh, thanks! And thanks for reviewing every single chapter on the catch up! Oli' parents are really cool. Oscar needs to start seeing some proper roles models indeed, though it's such a mind-fuck for him... For me the worst thing about writing Oscar's and Oli's families (and Henry's and Ariadne's, to an extent) is that the inspiration for them come from real stories I've heard or witnessed. I work for an LGBT organisation that does awareness work, so we often come across case studies of LGBT young people with shitty families. Oscar's parents are probably the condensation of the worst parts, but there's nothing in them that hasn't happened to a person before. And then there's nothing in Oli's family that hasn't happened either (though her family is drawn a lot more on my personal experience), and it feel really unfair that some people have awesome parents and others have to slowly dig their way through a maze of abuse and violence. On a happier note, we'll see a lot more of the Viñas in the upcoming chapters, particularly after the next school year starts (around chapter 21). I can't wait to get to this part of the story, so I hope you'll like it. Thanks for all the reviews again!
  22. The main thing about Oscar's situation is that if you grow up in that kind of environment, this is what is going to be "normal" for you. You can't possibly know this is not how it is supposed to be until you get a chance to look at other families (like Oli's and Henry's). At which point you have to decide whether they are right, or you. And this is not as easy as it seems, because for you entire life you've been told you have to trust your parents, that your parents know what is best, that they know what they're doing. Realising they're wrong in such a context is not easy and not painless. Now, whether Oscar will ever get there... and for Henry.... yeah, he needs help is just about everything. But then again, his mum did this when he was a toddler... Hopefully after the trauma caused by the injuries themselves and the horrible moments he had to live through, being helped by his mum is not the worst thing to come of his situation. =S
  23. Ah, well, at least you've caught up now! Jean's case is more of a "I've-been-to-distracted-by-other-things-about-you-to-care" kind of thing. Oscar mentioned this scar on the very first chapter as a "I don't understand what this guys sees on me when I look like this" kind of moment. Hope this helps. The Headmistress would've done that even if Ariadne was the straightest girl she knew. She's that kind of cool person. And yeah, Jean's condition is real. I first saw it in one of those medical TV shows, then googled it for more info. It can vary from just the chest area being inverted to the whole chest + abdomen part. Thanks for the review!
  24. “My classmates are organising a sleep-over to study for exams.” I told my parents during breakfast on Saturday morning. The night before Olivia had invited me to spend the weekend at her house for ‘good luck’ before the most stressful part of the school year began. She had convinced me to call it a ‘study sleep-over’ hoping that my parents would either accept the lie for what it was, or once again find their subtext of choice and let me go under the assumption that giving in to my masculine inst

    Prodigy

Hey, thanks for the review! There are so many things I could say, but most would completely spoil the fun for next chapter, so I'll keep my mouth shut for a while longer. Just so you know, next chapter is the longest in the story so far (of 22 chapters I've already written) and there's a bit more background on Isaac. Until next time!
