  1. I was still half asleep as I trudged to the bathroom early Tuesday morning and stood on a fluffy pink rug to pee. In front of me, taped to the wall at eye level, was a crudely written list of instructions in red marker. ‘Don’t pee on the rug. Don’t leave the seat up. Don’t leave clothes on the floor. Don’t leave bad odours. Clean up all mess.’ There were a lot of don’ts on that list, but it was self-defeating. I was unable to read and pee accurately at the same time, and the first rule

Brandon's trying to do the right thing with his schoolwork and please his dad while keeping Billy dangling. He needs to be careful at this point and avoid sending out the wrong signals. Blowing hot and cold isn't good, and there's only so much Chandler can do if Brandon won't listen to his advice.I feel sorry for Billy who must be wondering what he's done wrong or thinking that Brandon is a lost cause. That's the impression I would get, and I wouldn't blame Billy if he decides Brandon isn't worth the hassle.

With dreams like that, I might be tempted to forget about having a boyfriend and stick with the pillow. They're much cheaper and easier to replace.
  4. Happy New Year everyone. Wherever you are in this fractured world, I wish you all peace, freedom, good health, warmth, love, and happiness.

Brandon, please. You're killing me here. Listen to Chandler. Although, admittedly, Billy seems equally reluctant to believe his good fortune and play his hand.
  6. Thank you, @SAWfor reading and commenting on this story. You're right. I suffered a similar loss at the same age as the protagonist, so much of this chapter was written from personal experience.

I wanna be the first to congratulate Brandon. Well done, even if Billy made it easy for you and you had the coolest mentor on the planet. That feeling at the end is the best feeling ever.

    Chapter 1

Good first chapter, definitely worth reading on.

Chandler is surely worth his weight in gold. I would love to have had an experienced confidant like him to talk to and learn from without fear of anyone else finding out. It would have made my life so much easier and prevented a lot of mistakes. Now Brandon can re-pay him by acting on his advice.
  10. Sorry to hear this, Albert.
  11. It's been on the cards for a long time now. Maybe Don thought Sue was bluffing.
  12. Almost certainly.
  13. Thank you, @Shaggy_93 for reading and commenting. A few people have said the same thing. I don't think it's necessary to read this story from the very beginning to understand what's going on, which is why I began referring to it as a kind of soap opera.
  14. Don may have to sell the boat to pay Sue, or buy her half of it. But he only really bought it to bribe his kids and keep them loyal. That didn't work.
  15. Well overdue. Don must have believed he was invincible.
  16. Thanks, @Gary L. There's no doubt that Sue should have handled Robbie's trust fund from the beginning.
  17. You're right. There are certain things that Don won't be able to legally avoid as Robbie was quick to point out, but how will Don react when the walls close in?
  18. There's no doubt that in the long run, the family will be better off without Don's poisonous input, but first they have to weather what is likely to be a stormy divorce / separation. If Don cares about his family, then surely he will do the decent thing and offer to move out.
  19. Not too bad, but very busy!
  20. Robbie won't lose any sleep over Don, but he still points out that it's nothing to celebrate. It's sad, particularly for Sue, even if it was inevitable.
  21. Definitely time for a review. I'm sure Robbie would prefer Sue to look after his trust fund.
  22. There are many words that spring to mind when I think of Don, but cupcake isn't usually one of them. You're probably right though.
  23. For a woman whose marriage was on the brink of disintegrating, Sue was remarkably composed when she summoned her four children to the living room on Sunday afternoon for what she later described as the most difficult conversation of her life. I sat on the couch with Nicola and braced myself as Amy jumped between us, wiggling her backside to squeeze into a non-existent gap. The last to arrive was Daniel, reluctantly dragging himself upstairs to slouch sideways across the armchair, barefoot a
  24. You're not the only one. I'm looking forward to posting the final chapter and marking it complete. As much as I enjoyed writing this story, it's a huge weight off my shoulders. Thanks, @Valkyrie for your support and @Cia for the interview.
