  1. It's probably a good way to be. I don't think there are too many people out there who regret not drinking enough, but there are loads who regret drinking too much.
  2. In retrospect, it seems pretty clear, but it's difficult to know the right thing to do at the time. Thanks for commenting.
  3. I've done this before, too, confident that no one could hear me over the storm.
  4. Yes, she is definitely a bit of a handful, but she has some redeeming qualities.
  5. It's becoming increasingly difficult for me to reply to these comments without giving anything away, so I will focus on things we already know. Nathan's manipulation has been obvious to us for a while, but until recently, Robbie has been unable to see it. Things changed when he got the part in the movie, and Robbie convinced himself that their relationship was doomed to fail. Now, it seems he's just going through the motions. At the moment, he would rather hang out with Rory as a friend than spend time with Nathan as a lover, and that has to be a bad sign.
  6. It could be that one of the scenarios in your comment is correct, but it would be wrong of me at this stage to even give a hint.
  7. I'm not sure about the bellboy, but maybe Nathan isn't as faithful as he claims. Four weeks in Vancouver will be a bigger challenge for him, but I guess it depends on who will be his chaperone. Miranda is an interesting character who Robbie hasn't managed to figure out yet, despite a lot of clues.
  8. Robbie's competitive spirit may help him to re-discover his love of swimming. He needs something positive in his life to focus on. We don't know what Nathan is thinking or planning, but Robbie believes their relationship is ending and seems to have lost interest.
  9. Air conditioning was always on the list of things Don promised to do but never got around to, and he's probably glad now that he didn't. I suppose he never spent enough time at home for it to be necessary. I can't comment on the confession without giving it away.
  10. There have been a few hiccups, most notably with Nathan, but Robbie and Daniel have gradually grown into brothers. One minute, they're the worst of enemies, and the next, the best of buddies. There's only a year between them, but if it weren't for Robbie's accent, it would be difficult for anyone who didn't know to guess he was adopted. This is good news for everyone except Don, who doesn't want the boys to be close and will do whatever he can to turn them against each other.
  11. Rory is a very confused young man, but that's all I can say at the moment. Clearly, he thinks a lot of Robbie, probably more than he cares to admit. It's difficult to describe their relationship, but it's more than simply best friends. There's a lot of love there, but there's also a need for physical contact, which goes both ways and will inevitably cause problems when it comes to seeing other people. We can already see from Nathan's reaction that it will be difficult for Robbie or Rory to remain this close and have successful relationships with other people. Robbie probably understands this more than Rory, but whether he will be able to do much about it is another matter.
  12. Summer came early that year with a mini heat wave that coincided with the Victoria Day holiday, colloquially known as May-two-four. This long weekend traditionally marked the start of the summer season—when the town made its money—and it looked like a bumper year as crowds flocked to the waterfront to take advantage of the warm weather. After surviving a brutal and protracted winter, and with no more health issues to hold me back, I was determined to make the most of my second summer in the
  13. Aloha Albert. I've been busy and also a bit of a recluse.
  14. I'm still here! Merry Christmas, everyone. ❤️
  15. It's difficult to see how Robbie's relationship with Nathan can survive much longer. It doesn't look as if Robbie will be accompanying his boyfriend to Vancouver, and despite what Nathan said, I don't think either boy will be too concerned. It won't please Symmonds. He wants Robbie out of the way, but Daniel may prove just as problematic for the evil counsellor, especially now that Don no longer has the level of control he once had over his family. Thanks for your comment.
  16. Thank you, @Jean87. More than any other chapter in the story, this one was based mainly on my own experience at the same age as Robbie, and it's still difficult for me to read. In a world filled with hate, it's somewhat reassuring to know there are still people like Alice and the nurse at your hospital whose hearts are filled with love. Their warmth and kindness will stay with you forever.

    Chapter 1 Arrival

@Jean87. Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your recent loss.
  18. Nathan is totally selfish, and Robbie knows this better than anyone. Gone are the days when he talked about love and being together forever. Now, Robbie jokes about blackmailing him should he become famous, implying that he doesn't expect their relationship to last. I think this is good for Robbie. He can have fun without getting hurt too much when it inevitably ends.
  19. Sorry @weinerdog, I forgot to reply to your comment. The church does provide help to the poor and disadvantaged, but only after taking a large cut for themselves. Nice work if you can get it. It's a nice apartment, but I can't imagine anyone living with Don, especially with Mr Symmonds popping in whenever he chooses. Robbie's not overly concerned about spending the summer without Nathan.
  20. We don't know what the deal is with the apartment. It seems likely that Don isn't paying the going rate, but I can't imagine the church or the pastor renting it out at a loss. They're not as charitable as they pretend.
  21. Daniel is trying not to take sides, but being loyal to everyone is impossible. This chapter gives an insight into his topsy-turvy relationship with Robbie. They can switch from being enemies to the best of friends almost instantly, but despite their sometimes violent disagreements, they have bonded quite well as brothers. Don and Mr Symmonds should bear this in mind. I think Robbie knows that he won't be going with Nathan to Vancouver, but I don't think he's too upset.
  22. I miss being taken for a walk by my dog, but I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter after another long hiatus. I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I should be able to post the remaining chapters quite regularly.
  23. As my mom used to say, some people always seem to land on their feet, and this was definitely the case when it came to her brother. For a man of his size, Don was remarkably adept at escaping from a tight spot and emerging not just unscathed but in better shape than he was before. It was this inexplicable Houdini-like ability, coupled with a larger-than-life personality, that often made him appear indestructible in a cartoonish kind of way. When Don announced to the family that he was renti
  24. Congratulations! You are a talented writer. This is well deserved.
