  1. Just remember criticisms are just opinions. It's your call to use them or ignore. I know it's hard to ignore pig-headed comments, or those people who think they are writing gods, or the plain bigots out there, but you have to grow a thick skin and learn to ignore. Better yet, you have to learn to sift through garbage for the gold.
  2. I have too much old writing to edit. So no, I won't be taking part.
  3. a birthday party? I'll join. Do email me some cake. Happy Birthday.
  4. Love happens at first sight, if you're a fish. Seriously, infatuation happens at first sight all the time. The deep love? That takes a while, thankfully.
  5. “Zeus,” Sabrine cried from the inner chamber “Apollo,” Guy said. “My stallion.” Her voice screamed higher in pitch, higher in passion. “I am no woman’s steed.” “Oh Diamhin.” Thumping stopped. The air was stale and stiff and laden with sticky heat. “What did you call me?” Seated in the common room, Claude cringed, clasped his face, and held tight as he imagined the steel claws in Guy’s glare. Apparently the tutor had a secret name that was not to be uttered by humans or Sabrine. “Forgive

    Chapter 7

Yeah, sorry. I like to torture my protagonists. I figure they are such unlikeable blokes, I might as well torture them for fun.
  7. Across the heavens were unfolded the clouds, foamy and thick, shaped like pillaged cathedrals and fallen castles after a ruinous siege. For half a day Claude and Guy plodded towards the grey and purple corrugating the eastern horizon. Guy did all talking. Claude did all the listening on Mamohedans and their strange Friday Sabbaths, men with skin black as ink or men with eyes like surly cats. His knapsack burdened heavier on each stride, and he felt moment by moment as though a pregnant goat abou

    Chapter 5

yeah. Perhaps angsty hot sex should have happened here. But I could imagine Serge insulting Claude afterwards and that in my view is just evil.

    Chapter 4

It would take a whole lot of polishes to make him sparkling.
  10. The next morning, Claude gave the apprentices a tour of the kitchen and root cellar. Here was the salt. Here were the flagons of vinegar, the flower spirits. The apprentices looked at each other, dumb and overwhelmed. Claude mulled the more interesting geometry of the cross-beamed ceiling and deemed the ignorance none of his concern. He went on to ram down their small ears the very long manual on how to keep a house free from pests and bad vapors. Not long afterwards Claude gathered his things
  11. It was the Monday after Palm Sunday, and Dona Bonace came to Serge’s house. Her eyebrows were plucked clean. A white lace coif covered her curly hair, and its straps outlined her gaunt cheeks. Her face looked as if the skin had been evilly stretched over the mask of her skull. She was more interested in the dust defiling secret places than answering Serge’s questions on the wedding feast. She felt every surface for dust: the crevices on the mantelpiece, the inner edges of the doorframe, the who
  12. Beyond the Pont de la Daurade and its arched abutments, the high rose walls of the L’Hopital de la Grave, past the monastery estates of the Feuillants, a Cistercian order whose members ate and slept on the floor, and the city walls and its surrounding moat, there the sun slipped to its rest. There fomented a chaos of creed against creed, Catholic against Protestant. The second in line to the French throne the Duke of Anjou had yet to die. The Protestant prince, Henri de Navarre, would not yet pr
  13. At the table in the common room, Claude was perusing clothes to be mended while hammers from the adjacent Serge’s shop pounded the nail of a headache deep into his skull. Bang, bang, bang. His head would split and leak a soul thin in loneliness. Bang, bang, bang. Merciless clangor, cold clangor hounded from the man who had cast him aside. He stiffened, gritted his teeth. Bang, bang, bang. Claude abandoned the clothes on the table and decided to break his Lenten fast early. No good wallowing in

    Chapter 2

Yeah Guy loves challenges. Unfortunately the challenges he has in mind are very different from what Claude's thinking.
  15. Thanks for the welcome. I hope to stay awhile.
  16. Claude met with Auguste Seyr. Auguste was not Serge Mirepoix. When he prayed for healthy children, God answered him faithfully nine times. He was not Serge Mirepoix. He insisted Claude keep a virtuous life, hence a strict curfew that would be enforced by his soldier wife. He was not Serge Mirepoix. Claude would work sun up till sun down, earning nothing. He was not Serge Mirepoix. Claude would certainly not have a cell to himself or his evenings free for carousing. Alighting from Seyr’s abode,
  17. Hello, I am a fish who likes to write fishy stories. Nice to meet you all.
  18. Ooh thanks for commenting. I see what you mean by the confusion of names. I'm going to see what I can do about that. Probably need to split the chapter into two. Yeah Claude is a hard guy. It's a struggle to keep him barely sympathetic. Thanks for commenting.
  19. It was Lent, the season of grieving and repenting and braying sententious monks. Enter here, Claude Severin ambling to the wine shop, grinning like a happy baboon on this feast day of St. Joseph, patron saint of manly losers. The melody of a gavotte sloshed in his heart, its rhythm light in his fingers. Passersby gave no eye to his threadbare tunic or his ragged hose; nor did they stop to admire his hat lined with velvet and a red plume—a gift from an apothecary for times sweaty and jaunty. “Cl
  20. Claude Severin is a carefree prostitute until he runs into Guy Sewell, a braggart who takes blood as wine. Guy offers Claude the chance of an education. Claude is happy to raise his station, but at what cost to his soul?
  21. Wow. I know what I'm going to be doing this evening.
  22. Don't know who you are, but happy b-day to you.

    Introduction

Interesting for the finance content. I find that all intriguing. I worry though that you may have not enough story to carry the finance narrative. I'm not getting a hint of plot. I wonder how your next few chapters will turn out. I'll follow quietly for now.
