Thanks glitteryantlers. I'm getting the beta version ready but would appreciate your help. Lomax61

Hello everyone, I've had a couple of novels showcased on Gay Authors but find myself in need some more in depth help with the latest one. So I'm looking for Beta Readers and I decided to open the invitation to anyone who wants to join me in this endeavour. Let me know if you're interest, and I will direct you to the relevant story link. Thanks in advance, Brian (Lomax61)

Thanks for reading, Tim. I thought it would be a shame not to let this old story have a bit of time in the light. I was going to turn this into a full length story but decided to leave it as a short piece. Brian

When The Road Darkens (or Five Windows) "Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens." (J. R. R. Tolkien) Window One: September 2005 - Giles Plunged into sudden darkness, the flamenco red Peugeot 307 trembled in the wake of the monstrous heavy goods vehicle overtaking them in the fast lane of the motorway. Giles had woken startled, dropping the unopened bottle of Evian squeezed between his thighs. A nervous glance at the speedometer confirmed the tr

Hi Geemeedee et al, Epilogue just posted. Once again, a very special thanks to Timothy M for helping to edit and sanity check this portion. I really do hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed writing it. My first novel, Uninvited Guest, is being released by Dreamspinner Press and coming out on 13 November (eBook: http://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=7065), so I have been frantically working with editors to get that into shape, which has meant little time for other writing. However, as the sleuths amongst you have already noticed, Kissing the Dragon is the first book in the Croxburgh Chronicles, and is going to be continued in my next book in the series called Stroking The Blue (still under construction, but I am going to post a preview chapter shortly). From a timeline perspective, this will carry on from where KTD left off, will include one or two of the characters you have already met, and (for this book anyway) told from their POV. I am planning four books in the series and already have frameworks for the next two. The final one is pinging around in my head like a pinball right now. I am not planning on putting KTD forward for publishing (apart from anything, I realise I need to rework certain parts to make them more cohesive) until all four books are written and posted here. Honestly, it's the feedback and reviews here that have kept me writing and rethinking the plot - more importantly it's the readers that have urged me on to finish this book. So a huge thank you to everyone. Brian Lomax61 -

Thanks all. A couple of clues buried back in earlier chapters. Chapter 9 - professional visit when DCW visits Colin at his house alone:: “Yes, well, I’m afraid you’ve got me tonight,” he says, looking past me to study our array of fridge magnets, most selected and bought by Billy. Especially the ones illustrated with semi naked men. My favourite is the one Vaughan bought me with the slogan, ‘love means singing a karaoke song for him’, even though he never did. DC Whitehead’s disgust is plain as he shakes his head a couple of times before dragging his attention back to me. Geddit now? -

Sorry all. Last couple of helpings are set to tie up many loose ends and I need to make sure everything makes sense - but a huge work schedule has just landed in my lap for the next fortnight - so am trying to grab bits of time during the daylight and twilight hours to get the next helping served up. Dear readers, As you can probably tell, this tale is drawing to a close. BUT NOT JUST YET. One important chapter to go, and then a short epilogue. I am just putting the finishing touches to these. So please stick around until the end. As Tim has pointed out above, there's a lot more to Kit and Nichole that still needs to be explained. And there will be a mystery in something Ben does for Colin - that I am going to let you discuss without revealing in the story. My heartfelt thanks to Tim M (editor extraordinaire), drpaladin, Puppilull, Geemeedee, Lisa, Reader1810, Defiance 19, dughlas, revelinblue, Cole Matthews, Impunity, Terry P, Jamie85, Spread_Love, A69lex69, Eleven, lenhall, Jim P, lakjeboh, Robert Rex, and Brian M. Your reviews, comments, and forum chats have truly inspired me to get this story finished. And I promise to reply to everyone's reviews as soon as the finishing touches are complete. You are not a goof. You pointed out something very valid and I need to make sure this is not distracting others. I'll beef up when I do my edits. Right now, I am just getting the next chapter ready to post. Hold on to your hats. Brisn -

Hi there - yes, Tim. The screen was blank. No message. No missed call. Not even any comforting words from Siri I'll go back and make that clear. At this point Colin is desperate to know what's going on, while knowing he is helpless to do anything about it. -

By the way, in order to avoid a continuity error in the next chapter, I had to add the following paragraph to the end of chapter 27 - Home Truths: "While I sit in the car with the engine idling, mulling over whether the graffiti and dumpster could indeed be a coincidence, Derek walks up and down outside making a call to Hugh to let him know we are on our way." Heavens, it's the simple things that let you down sometimes!! -

Hi Tim and Reader1810 (and all readers of KTD), I have to say, having Ben turn up would have been a nice twist. But that's a little premature yet, because everything Colin thinks he knows (and Ben, come to that) is pure speculation right now. Well, for the next few pages, anyway. Clue About Martin: What does Martin know about Colin that neither Vaughan, Hugh nor Derek know? Something urgent enough to bring him out there. BTW - I'm furiously finishing the next chapter (which will explain why Martin's there) and should be ready by tomorrow. -

Thanks all. Sorry if I misled in my post but I had no intention of stopping posting, just wanted to tighten things up and be a little more careful before adding more. So I'll keep posting and see where this goes. Hindsight is always a wonderful thing. Your comments are all appreciated and it's often a case of us seeing things differently. Tim has sent me through some brilliant observations (how many beers is that I owe you now, Tim?) which have helped tremendously. So if you do notice anything inconsistent or incorrect please let me know and I will order more beers!! Again, thanks for all your encouragement, reviews and honest critiques. And let's find out what's waiting for Colin at the stately home (cue sinister music). Brian -

Hi guys and girls, I have to be honest here and say that I am not happy at all with the last chapter. Drpaladin in the forum and JimP in his review summed it up when they wrote that Colin is coming across as an idiot, doing stupid things and taking ridiculous risks - and that is not what I had intended. Yes, he's more inept than a detective would be, but he's still a coherent character and I don't want readers to think that he can't have some redeeming features. Anyway, that particular chapter is going to need some massaging to get the balance right before I'm happy. So now I am being very cautious about what I'm writing before I post anything. So please hang fire a bit while I rewrite some of the subsequent chapters before posting them. Give me a couple of days. Brian -

Have I not said all along that you have good instincts? Is what's happening here in the UK only related to the the UK, or something more international and more involved? Just throwing that question out there. In which case are there other governments involved? Maybe, maybe not. I hope you're with me right now and don't hate me for what's about to happen. Ouch. I'll say no more. Brian -

Sorry. I think I'm clogging the system by getting chapters ready and waiting online before publishing. I'll stick to the traditional method and post them as soon as they're ready. Chapter 20 should now be ready to go. B -

Hi Reader1810, She is an old (or not so old in my case) PLU friend of mine. And this was a junk (as in Chinese style boat) trip from Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong to the outlying islands about two years ago. My immediate family (brother, sister-in-law, and kids) were visiting at the time. Make of that what you will. B -

I know, I know, Tim. And I am most grovelingly (is that a word?) sorry. The problem is I have these 99.9% ready chapters waiting to be aired, and get a bit trigger happy. Things will begin to cool a little with the ones that need more work before posting. Great reviews by the way. Brian -

Thanks to everyone for staying with me on this one. I know there's a lot happening which is all part of the build up, but the next couple of chapters will provide some new and potentially telling clues. And then... Hang on to your hats !
