Income tax was introduced in 1798, but I think only imposed in 1799. At a rate of 10% for all income over 60 pds. This was supposed to be a temporary thing done specially for the wars against Napoleon. What I was wondering was how this would affect their prize money? Reference your note attached to the chapter. In 1798, just the interest upon the national debt was 17,750,402 pds. If you think things are bad these days, in 1784 the debt was 156% of the GDP and by 1816 it was up to 237% of the GDP.

At the rate he is going isn't he going to have frenchmen to get past as well and if so, french control of the harbour (Alexandria). You make it sound as if Bertie is not long for this world. I guess his (your) timings will set all this up (as the Battle of the Nile lumes ever closer). Great chapter, thank you.

I actually thought of Jardines as a possibility, but discarded the notion. Just one of the many reasons why you are the author and I but a reader. I likewise feel that this trip will see the end of Major Jardines ( you tie up loose ends so well ). Thanks for a great chapter.

He doesn't know if Calvert is OK, now to lose Chartley. It will have to be one really fantastic guide that you dream up Mark. Also why would he go over land (Levant) when he could go by the Red Sea to get close to the Nile. Now that Raymond and the Sultan are at his disposal. Great chapter, thank you.

This was a good chapter that allowed us to see how far Calvert has come since that fateful night off Halifax harbour and of course that he was still among the living. I'm not sure which side you are on, Mark. The one with Centexhairysub and Ricky or the one with every one else in the entire known universe. Nor am I certain that if you flipped a coin, that it wouldn't be a two headed one. Let's see, Granger, father an Earl. Calvert, father a farmer. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth (or up his butt). So it is no great suprise he is not as smooth and polished, nor as diplomatically and politically astute as Granger. Thanks for the chapter, as always a great read.

The time, the cliff hangers, what little hair I haven't pulled out all water under the bridge. A great ending to an epic story. Thanks CJ.

All that every one else has said and more, thank you ever so much. -

I am happy you are posting the chapter. I am sad it is coming to an end. -
A new home, I really like that wall screen. 30 - 700 meter ships with atomics, this rogue (mad) scientist is starting to worry me. Great chapter, more please, thanks.
-
The rogue scientists' actions have cut him/them off from information as well and from AI expertise. Which side will get around this road block first. More and more is being put on our young friends' shoulders, it worries me. Great chapter, thank you.

So by taking the Nile/Mediterranean route he should be able to intercept Maidstone/Bacchante before they reach England. What a great chapter, thank you.

I looked up the definition of Slump???? Not that I am complaining, far from it. I am wondering if you didn't pick while over there some new potent strain of Ginseng, if so give me the address and I'll gladly keep you well stocked up. Thanks Mark.

I echo all of the above. You have done it again, with many questions answered, but far more created to lead us on (masterfully). My questions are to numerous to list here, so I'll just await your pleasure.
-
Happy chapter, sad ending. It does keep us on our toes though. Thank you.

Yes, you the writer have the power of life or death of your characters. However, unhappy campers (your readers) can post/review or not. You could get very lonely, very quick. Seriously though great chapter, thanks.

The 60s had Flipper, we have Sonic. I wonder what comes next, after a friend of the AIs status. I worry Wirrin is being to pushed to hard. Great chapter, thank you.
-
Ok, I will not mention the kitten (oops). I have my vuvuzela and the popcorn is ready, bring it on. This just keeps getting better and better. Thank you.
-
Now that was one of the best so far. Thank you.
-
I make it a habit to read each of your chapters twice. nowhere else do I do this. Great story, more please.
-
You evil, evil person. I salute you.

I lost track of the story and just found it again. A really great chapter, thank you.

The early summer slump: 2013
sandrewn replied to Mark Arbour's topic in Mark Arbour Fan Club's Mark's Topics
I'm starting to feel like a crow, cruising the highways looking for road kill (chapters). As you said we know about your slumps. How about based on your past slumps, due to work, family, temporary insanities, etc. That you guesstimate this ones possible length based on the aforementioned reasons. Halve it, inserting the next chapter there. This will stop the circling of most (vultures). I prefer to think of myself as a Condor being fed human remains (its a religious thing). Then we would have and idea/timeframe for the following one. Thanks in advance for any considerations given. -

Its simple, if Granger dies, the series ends orrrrrrrrrr......... he recovers and the series goes on (this option gets my vote). President Washington managed to live with Malaria most of his adult life, so why not our hero. You are leading us around by the nose with blinders on (good job). Please shed some light on us, oh masterful one. We ( I ) beseech you.

We've got to think outside of the box, OK Scotty lock on and beam them up!...oh well. I have the popcorn and Kleenex (just in case) ready. Let her roll. Thanks CJ.
