  1. I agree it is funny in a rather morbid way, but i feel really bad when I think of what that guy must be going through. LB, The 29th! Longer than I'd hoped but if thats what it takes i'll deal with it. If nothing else GA has taught me a lot about patience . Wynter
  2. I agree with everyone else. The accents are only amusing when they are a minor character and the accent is somehow important. Otherwise...just tell us he drawled, purred or whatever and we'll fill in the blanks with our own idea of what it should sound like.
  3. Yeah ididnt like that test much. it deals in stereotypes way too much. I got 40% gay anyway.
  4. These arent very heavy on the sex side of things (okay its very scant to be honest) but the two main characters are gay (well one takes a while to figure it out) and they make for great fantasy stories. The Night runner series by Lynn Flewelling starts with Luck in the shadows, and is really good. so far its up to three books with more coming. Unfortunately u'll have to pay for them but they're well worth it. Flewelling is American so I'm assuming they're available in the US.
  5. I dont think I've felt like harry at the Dursleys but I have thought of myself as akin to a wizard in a world full of muggles. - Muggles consider wizards to be weirdos - It is unsafe for Wizards to reveal themselves to muggles - In the old days it was illegal to be a practicing wizard. Make sense? Wynter
  6. I have a disgustingly common name that I wouldnt mind changing. I think it would depend on the guy, his name and whether or not we intend to have children (adoption obviously). Hyphenated names are ok for the first generation but imagine what it would be like if your child was gay. What's he/She gonna do? a Hyphenated name with 3 or 4 parts in it? I also like the idea of creating a new name out of the old ones. Sort of like what Vic was talking about with his'Cruaholic' network. Wynter

    this is cheesy

Better yet, pin it to his photo board at his 18th birthday party. Wynter
  8. Hmmm, I dont watch a lot of music videos but one of favourites is The Dope Show by Marilyn Manson. One of my friends downloaded it from somewhere 'coz it's been banned in some countries. I'm not sure why. It might be the androgonus body suit or the gay cops in pink uniforms kissing ("the cops and queers. make good looking models"). Whatever, it's entertaining and Manson actually looks suprisingly feminine all dressed up in shiny crimson. Wynter
  9. I came to GA via Nifty which I found via Google. I personally think that the most valuable service that GA provides is interaction. Outside of GA there isn't anyone i can talk to about 'Gay' things. GA is aplace where I can talk about things my best friends wouldnt understand, a place for me to be me without restriction. I think the thing that impresses me the most about GA is the people. The community is a great source of support and those of us in the closet value it dearly. BTW, the stories are awesome. Wynter
  10. So this gay/straight alliance is a common thing in US schools? I couldnt imagine something like that taking off in Australia. In fact the mere thought of the uproar it would cause is enough to give me a headache. It does sound interesting though. Wynter
  11. First of all thanks to evryone fot their input. I think after hearing this I'll have a look but I'll probably just observe them for a while to see what they're like. The last thing I need is someone exposing me because of some 'accept us or get f***ed' attitude. If this group doesnt respect it's members need for privacy they'll never hear a peep out of me. I really do hope they're decent though coz it would be nice to finally meet gay people and have someone i can talk to without constantly censoring my own thoughts. Thanks all Wynter
  12. So I'm starting Uni this year (like two weeks from now) and one of the things I noticed in the uni brochure was a list of clubs, one of which was a gay society. So what I'd like to know is: Have you been involved in a gay club (high school or uni)? What were your experiences? Would you recommend it? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Wynter
  13. We've had a lot of serious philosophical quotes so here's a couple of funny one's from Monty Python. There is a suprisingly large amount of wisdom in some of their songs. Monty Python were a British Comedy act that was big in the seventies and launched the careers of Eric Idle, Michael Palin and John Cleese. Lots of younger people have no idea who they are so if u dont look them up. So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure, How amazingly unlikely is your birth; And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere out in space, 'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth! (Monty Python, 'The Galaxy Song from' The Meaning of Life) ... Life's a piece of shit, When you look at it. Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true, You'll see it's all a show, Keep 'em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you! (Monty Python, 'Always look on the bright side of Life' from The Life of Brian) This is my all time favourite from a fantasy novel. Tremble and Depair. For I Am Power! (From Magician by Raymond E. Feist) Sad but true. Wynter
  14. I'm sad to say this doesn't suprise me. I remember reading an interview with fantasy author Sara Douglas where she said that her editors had forced her to keep a character she hated (Faraday for anyone interested) in the story because the fans would be too upset if she killed her off. I hadn't realised before that authors were pressured that way. For me the best part of a story is the suprises and I hate people interfering with my writing so I would never try to influence anybody else's writing. I really only bothered to join this site because of Dom Luka's stories but even if he finished DD with Rory, Luke and Seth going separate ways I'd still be happy coz it's his story and that's the way he wanted it to go. Besides, sad or unusual endings have been parts of some of my favourite stories and I rate a story that can make my stomache tie itself in knots quite highly (at least it's not boring). For me there's nothing worse than a predictable story. Wynter

I use Firefox in XP. Does anyone else have probs displaying certain txt functions? I find that Dom Lukas Story chapters appear with question marks in place of apostrophes and that never happened when i used IE. Wynter
  17. Personally i find it encouraging that a movie like this was even made. I mean, other than Philidelphia how often do you see big names making a movie about the issues facing gay men. I'd really like to see it but i doubt i'll get to. I'm still very much 'in the closet' and asking one of my friends to go see it with me would be akin to branding GAY on my forehead. Not to mention what my parents would think coz my Dad's a naturally suspicious person. Wynter

    Suicide

Hey College Guy, I just noticed this thread today or i would have weighed in ages ago. Originally you asked if it was inherently wrong to commit suicide. I would have to say yes. It's not just because it will affect those who love you now. But also what it will do to those who will benefit from your presence in the future. I think we've already established that you're not alone. Many of us contemplate suicide as a way out, most of us realise there are better ways to deal with it. This is something that heped me in some of my darker momements "Learn to accept that which is unchangable. Strive to change that which is unnacceptable. Learn to tell the difference between the two." And finally, report that shrink who told you that you needed to become promiscuous in order to meet people and be accepted. He needs his practitioners licence revoked. Wynter
