    GMA VII

Like wasting good Scotch by diluting it with ice or water? Forget the bar, the restaurant! But in the age when I can pay with my Amex, and sometimes my phone, at a taco truck, some businesses refuse to pay credit card fees. I think they're facing extinction.

I'll take their tame any day! LOL The pace of the story's important so I try to have the energy by chapter fluctuate. Were I starting from scratch, I'd probably do more short chapters dealing with mundane life events.

  4. @Jaro_423 New York will feature prominently in the story. CJ will become a regular visitor. The apartment I discovered using real estate listings. I'm familiar with the building since friends own a place in it and it's where I stay during most of my trips. I wanted something on the East Side so I went with a familiar place.
  5. @Jaro_423 It's hard to comprehend the emotions involved when your own mother rejects you. I', certain it's not something CJ will ever forget.

@Drewbie Harley owners/aficionados tend to be cliquish and look down on anything but bikes from the Milwaukee company. Jap bikes (rice burners) have always been looked down upon even if they're well built. During my first mid-life crisis I owned a Mazda MX5.
  7. LMAO... Moi? CJ's tantrum shows he has a temper and isn't afraid to stand his ground when he feels he's right. It won't be the last time he locks horns with his parents. As for the titles, I tried to incorporate them into the story. It didn't always work for an opening line, but it usually at the beginning or the end. Oh, and humor will always feature prominently.

    Ramrod

@Jaro_423 CJ and Orlando had sex. Hormone-driven, casual sex. No tenderness, no love-making, or anything like that. He got laid and that was the important part. A more meaningful encounter will have to wait. With many teens, their first time's in a car or who knows where; at least he had a bed in a house. I didn't want his first time to be anonymous but I didn't want it to mean a lot.

    Paradise

@Jaro_423 I tried to have CJ experience a lot of different things in these early chapters. All of that will play a part in shaping him over time.

@Jaro_423 The shirt is real. I wanted something different and the Donna Karan design screamed CJ when I saw it.

@Drewbie Didn't Harley say something about friends don't let friends ride rice burners?

    A Man's Job

Some people dread and despise speaking in public while others thrive on it. I think I showed which camp CJ belongs to in this chapter. Typo fixed, thanks.
  13. César and Brett arrived the afternoon before Christmas. When CJ began planning his twenty-first birthday celebration, his fathers insisted on remaining in Washington. They told their son to invite his own friends instead. They would join him, Owen, and Ritchie the day after the dinner party, and the five would spend Christmas in Manhattan. “So, what’s the plan for what’s left of the day?” Brett put his feet on the coffee table and leaned back against his husband. The three younger men in the
  14. Good work, Michael. You and tim remind me of some of my friends. The perception it's all about sex couldn't be farther from the truth.
  15. Probably due to the people I've hung around with, but nicknames or last names were used as much as first names. I've had people forget CJ's a nickname itself. Cesar Junior is too much of a mouthful to use!
  16. Young males and their hormones! They just want to boink each other LOL

    The River

@Jaro_423 By the time you reach the book currently posting, we'll have nearly 300 named characters. Most of them might be considered 'extras' but the cast does become rather large. Wait until you reach chapters where I have 20+ people in a scene. The dialogue gets interesting.

    My Lucky Day

@Jaro_423 I just had a reader asking for more appearances by the older cast members! I do steer the stories to a point where CJ's the main focus without dislodging the other characters, nut he definitely gets the most airtime. My goal was to create characters and situations that wouldn't require suspending disbelief too much. Having one individual experience everything I have CJ do in such a short period might be pushing it, but this is fiction after all.
  19. Glad you're enjoying it! CJ already met one of JP's cousins when Spencer visited the US in summer 2013. If you've kept reading, by now you've probably met Spencer's brother.
  20. @Jaro_423 I should invest in a tissue company. This series seems to generate tears on a regular basis but fortunately few are for sad events. I was born in Cuba and grew up in Puerto Rico and Miami. My collegiate fraternity was a hodgepodge of nationalities, and I drew on that experience when creating the cast. Names were chosen because I liked them or because they meant something specific. I've spent plenty of time online searching for appropriate ones.

@Jaro_423 I don't always succeed, but my intent is to always reply within 24 hours.

    For You

You're wrong, my friend. I'm always interested in comments, and I always reply. Unsure where you moved after you left Zimbabwe, But if you're still in Africa, we have a 6-7 hour time difference. I usually try to reply early in the morning while having my coffee, but some days are different. Today I left my house by 7:00 am. I can read comments on my phone but prefer to reply when I have access to a laptop or tablet.
  23. I tried to have similar lengths, but in the end, I tried to cover certain things and didn't worry too much about word count. Now all I need to do is go back and correct typos and punctuation. My writing has definitely improved technically since these early efforts.
  24. Thanks for reading. I enjoy the comments left by binge readers a lot. It's such a different experience from hearing from fans during the one-per-week initial posting.

    Human Touch

Almost done wrapping the story arcs started in the previous book. To be honest, I think of the first books as one with five distinct sections. They cover CJ's first year in Washington. What he experiences during that year will form the foundation for his future development.
