    Chapter 11

Figured a little set up. Since I get a lot of questions as to where the Grady's are. Figured I'd give them a story. (Seems Bobby Grady is a bit of a fan favourite and people want to know where his family line went.) Rather linked closely to the Hickey family, as it turns out. I really have to start putting a character tree on my corkboard wall, it's all going a bit:

    Chapter 11

After this one, there is another short one. Two broken boys, abandon their dreams to hide in Merrickville. Garrett was the golden-boy quarterback until his knee—and his future—shattered. Now he’s a secretary in a glass box, choking on resentment. Finn is the beautiful, feral foster kid hiding self-inflicted tattoos under mechanic’s coveralls, running from a past that won’t let go. Walter Grady's Garage their only bastion. They’re supposed to hate each other. In the greasy dark of an auto garage, hate gets confused. It’s messy, brutal, and the only thing that makes either of them feel alive. But in a place where everyone’s watching, their private war might just destroy them both.

    Chapter 11

Lydia is cackling somewhere, holding something she had whipped up to ensure the boys were too distracted chasing each other to try to bug her.

    Chapter 11

Had to show Tabby's thoughts, as he took his wander, realizing where he wanted to be. If he hadn't have left on his walkabout, he'd be resentful and wonder. This way he's done it, and learned what's more important. Two more chapters of this one.

    Chapter 11

This is what Alvin needed to learn through the Winter, that he can survive on his own. That he isn't co-dependent. I also like Bobby McCormick, his unconditional acceptance of Alvin as being Tabby's partner and looking after his son-in-law in his own gruff kind of way. His issues with his son are seperate from his view on Alvin, and showing genuine care in that practical way of his. Contrasts well with his brother Peter. Twins with very different personalities. Though the image of Peter in a cop uniform and a truncheon has to make West's day.

    Chapter 11

Two more chapters to go Home soon
  14. Chapter 12: The Winter Vignettes & The Migrant's Postcards I. The Whiteout The blizzard hit Merrickville in mid-December, not with a gentle fall but with a shrieking, white fury that swallowed the world. By morning, the Doily Dungeon was an island, adrift in a sea of featureless white, its butter-yellow siding a faint, forlorn smudge against the endless gray-white of the sky. The wind had sculpted the snow into impossible, swirling dunes, burying the fence posts and transforming t

    Chapter 11

Carter's Campaign hit 117000 words today, 20 Chapters. It is going surprisingly well, but I know I still have a long, long way to go with it. I'm only at July 2024... This election is a messy messy thing. I am contemplating if I should split the book into two parts. As I am no where close to done and it is getting long. And Andrew kicks ass on the High Sea.

    Chapter 11

Chapter Twelve: The Baptism of Concrete The sky over Manchester didn’t just open; it collapsed. It wasn’t the polite, drizzling rain of the city centre, the kind that made shoppers huddle under awnings and office workers complain about frizzy hair. This was a torrential, vertical assault, a wall of water that hit the concrete of Cradle Grove with the sound of a million tiny detonations. It turned the cracked pavements into shallow rivers running black with silt, cigarette ends, and t
