    FS Chapter 28

“Harding to all personnel, this is now a dedicated channel between Command and sniper, stay off this link until further notice, Harding out” the Lt Colonel said, and I chuckled at hearing that order. “Sniper to Owens, please return to my location asap, Sniper out” I said, as I wanted Mike here to look after Angela and Tom, while I went hunting. Twenty minutes later, I heard a noise to the east, and I saw Mike with his arms in the air, then I heard another noise south of him, and I quickly swung

    NB Chapter 4

After a short lunch break, we made our way to the second location in Claremont, and we managed to get the recording completed in just over 1 ½ hours, now that we knew how to set up, and do the singing, which Kyle joined in as a background singer, but out of picture from the video recording, which is what he wanted, so he wouldn’t get any more hassles from school. On Sunday morning, we attended church in Fremantle, but be stayed low key, sitting at the back of the church, and singing very softly,

    FR Chapter 36

About an hour later I had grilled lamb chops with potato and pumpkin mash, and minted peas, and while the boys ate their dinner, I took the remaining two plates up to the bridge so I could eat dinner with Simon. We chatted as we ate and took it in turns to man the helm. “I was thinking about that area forward of the master crew cabin. We could relocate that dinghy to the aft storage area, and make that forward area into an executive lounge with access from the master crew cabin,” I said to

    FR Chapter 35

We relaxed and had dinner downstairs, since there was just the four of us on the yacht, and we all pitched in to clean up afterwards. As it neared 2000 hours, I announced that it was time to leave, so Simon showed the boys how to release the mooring ropes, and how to stow the ropes, while I slowly motored out of the harbour. Once we were clear of the main harbour, Simon and the boys pulled up the mainsail, before they all came up to the fly bridge. “Ok boys, from now on, you are not to be o

    FR Chapter 34

We arrived at our destination half an hour ahead of schedule, which gave the guests a chance to have a quick look at the Old Whaling Station Museum before it closed for the day. On their return the guests relaxed for the rest of the afternoon while the crew prepared the dinner. It was a relaxing evening as the temperature dropped and wind calmed, causing the guests to remain indoors, where it was warmer. Once the crew had eaten early as usual, Kirk and Leon prepared to serve dinner to the

As I stood up, when they were five metres away, everyone in the advancing group stopped. I stepped forward, passing the Captain, so I was in hearing range of the Cadets. “Cadets, get down flat on the ground now, and do not make a sound, that is a direct order, now move it” I said in a loud whisper, and the Cadets did as I ordered, seeing that I am regular army, and not a Cadet Unit Commander, once all the Cadets were laying on the ground I turned to face the Captain. I activated my ear piece so

I activated my ear piece and watched the Cadet carefully as I spoke, “Staff Sergeant Benning to Lt Colonel Harding, over”, and we waited for a few moments, till there was a reply, “CO here, go ahead Staff”. “Sir, due to the limited number of Army staff, and my need to remain at Bird’s Nest, I am in need to field promote the most outstanding CUO, to Senior CUO for this next exercise, do I have permission to go ahead with this recommendation?” I stated to the CO. “Permission is granted and a

    FR Chapter 33

When I arrived at Fremantle, I found a long-term parking garage, where I left my vehicle, and I caught a taxi back to the harbour, arriving to find the yacht was not where it had been moored. I was wondering what could have happened, when my phone rang. “Hello, Jasper. Where the hell are you?” I said as I answered the phone. “Sorry, Boss, we had a media emergency with the Fenton family. Can you catch a taxi to Rockingham, and we will meet you at the beach at Cape Peron. Just text us wh

The funeral had been set for six-days’ time on Friday at Fremantle Crematorium Chapel, so with that organised, I thanked Anita for her time, and shortly after she had left, I sent a text to Isaac… “Hi Isaac and Boys, I am leaving home in about ten minutes, so I will see you soon, Anton.” …and another to Jasper… “Hi, Mate, I am about to head up to Isaac’s farm. the funeral is arranged for Friday at 11am at Fremantle. We will be coming down Thursday afternoon”. After a forty-mi

It wasn’t until near the end of the song, that only myself and the Reverend were singing, and she had a beautiful voice, and I blushed a little as I sat down along with the rest of the congregation. “For those who don’t know who that fine singer is, Huon Davenport, is the son of the late Mathew Davenport, who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. Huon is also a student at the Grammar school where I am the chaplain. It seems he has been hiding his talents from all of us, as I was not aware of

“Come over to the house at 6pm, and we can all go out for dinner at the tavern,” I said to the crew, as I lead my brothers off the yacht and then drove back to the house, where we all sat down at the dining table to do our homework. When Neale and Jedd had finished theirs, I let them go outside to play, once they had changed out of their school uniforms. An hour before the others were due to arrive, I stopped doing my homework, and headed outside to check on the boys. I turned on the water

Benning here has done all the planning for this Cadet training camp, and until recently, he was going to be the chief instructor, even thou, I am the ranking officer. “Morning, Boss,” Kirk and Leon said at the same time, as they entered the office. “Good morning, Guys. Can you see if Simon has a cup of tea available for me please?” I replied and they headed down the stairs to the crew area, both of them returning a few minutes later with a cup of tea and a plate of toast for me. When I saw that a bite size of toast was missing from one piece, I looked at the lads, who chuckled. “Wasn’t us. The cook was too lazy to make his own toast,” Kirk rep

By the time, we arrived back at Fremantle, I was quite exhausted, and the boys were feeling a bit better, after sending all of their snacks into the ocean. All of them fell asleep while I was driving back to the hotel. Mum was in the family suite when we arrived, and she was pleased to see us back. “Get cleaned up, and we will head to the restaurant for an early dinner,” Mum said to all of us. I was a little surprised that the boys did as suggested. When we had finished dinner, and ret

The remainder of the Senior Cadet training went smoothly, which I was pleased about, the Unit Commanders and the Senior Cadets knew that we were serious about training, and they had successfully completed two navigation courses, and done some night navigation as well. At breakfast on Monday morning, we arrived at the dining hall just as they were starting breakfast, and after grabbing some toast and a cup of tea, we made our way to the head table, and watched as the cadets chatted and ate.

Once in the conference room, I began to write down information onto the white boards, referring to my notes regularly, to make sure I had it down correctly. As I was doing this I explained the plan to the other team members, on how I wanted things to happen as soon as the buses arrive at the compound. We set out the large tents, lined up in the parade hall, which is to the left and down the passage from the reception area, while the dining hall and kitchen are down the passage on the right.

“Wake up, sleepy head,” my brothers said to me, standing by my bed. Startled and sleepy, I sat up and smiled. “What time is it, Guys?” I asked them. “Mum says it’s time to get your lazy bum out of bed,” Neale said to me, and I raised my eyebrow at that statement. “She did not say that. She said backside, not bum, liar,” Jedd responded to his brother’s little lie, and I chuckled at the correction of mum’s statement. “Ok, Guys, get out of here so I can get dressed. I will be ou
