According to the stores, Christmas shopping started a couple of months ago I am trying to get it all sorted, slowly but surely. I have got a collection of bits and pieces to take with me to my sisters. The weather is ummm…. Thinking of polite words but none fit… weird, let’s leave it at weird - cold and wet then sunny and warm then back to cold in a matter of days. He needs to speak to a genetic counselor - he has no symptoms, APO E is an indicator of age-related Dementia, not early onset. However he does have a family history of Alzheimer’s which is a much better guide than a simple APO E gene test. From what I read there was no examination of any protective factors, as with most of medicine you need to look at the whole person… And you need to make sure you have the whole story. Originally the APOe4 gene was thought to be protective against Alz Dis however it turns out that it is a marker for heart disease and folks were not getting Alzheimers because they died from a heart attack before they got it.
