So I’ve finally caught up to this story. I have so many thoughts and feelings and conflicting emotions, it’s hard to put everything into words.
By all accounts we’ve heard in the story so far, to me Dayna sounds extremely selfish in pretty much every aspect of their marriage. I don’t know if she was meant to come across that way, but that’s how it seems. Especially with the isolation she kept Kyan in.
It honestly sounds like they got married too soon, because of the unplanned pregnancy. I don’t want to say they were too young, because not every young person needs to be in multiple relationships before they’re “ready” for marriage. But in this case, they’d only known each other for a very short time, and still didn’t actually know each other that well. This would explain Dayna’s insecurities, and honestly Kyan’s obliviousness to his own proclivities.
That all being said, this situation is extremely sticky, and was always going to be so. It’s really easy to say, Kyan needs to get over it, but this will never be that simple. He’s already insecure about his placement within this family, due to his upbringing, and due to the death of Dayna, his children notwithstanding. She was his link to them and now she’s gone, and he feels like he’s become their burden. On top of that, there’s information they’ve all been privy to his entire marriage to Dayna that directly concerns him, yet he was never let in on the “secret.” That’s going to feel like a betrayal no matter what. On top of that the feelings of guilt and responsibility he’s going to feel toward Dayna. That’s part of his grief, and that might never go away. Grief is always there, it might lessen intensity over time, but little events can bring it right back to the forefront. I’d dare say this is such an event:
Personally, I think Perry waited way too long to have this conversation. He was well aware of Kyan’s insecurities, and wanting things to move forward with Kyan was always going to hit a brick wall because the elephant in the room was never addressed. On top of that, letting Kyan carry this worry about what everyone would think around, when they already know is cruel.
And that about wraps it up for right now.
