So I'd never watched Notting Hill when it came out, I mean it came out in mid-1999, the only thing on Spikey's mind at that time, was Junior year of high school was almost over, and finishing without summer school. Hanging out with my friends like all the time... and the movies we watched at the time? Star Wars, the Matrix, Austin Powers 2. We were looking forward to American Pie being released. I saw a bajillion movies that summer, but Notting Hill just never rated. So anyway, I'd always remembered this was supposed to be one of the great romantic comedies of the 90s. I finally got around to watching it on Netflix earlier this year and... I was a little underwhelmed. Some parts were great, Hugh Grant's friend group was awesome. But the relationship itself was just very underdeveloped. I mean it's Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts, romantic comedy was their forte. But, I just expected it to be way better.
