She was too greedy and thought Adam was to stupid to fall for her trick. After all she was the Queen for a while and was smart enough to place herself in a position of power. Wouldn't surprise me to discover she helped the old king to his ultimate place of rest.

I think the answer to your question is that these stories are written by men who have a grudge against women, That is the only reason I can think of why it is always female bitches. But if I remember there are a few stories where the king is the bad guy.
