It was late when I got home. Walking into the living room I smiled, wall-to-wall sleeping bags. I tiptoed toward my bedroom when I heard, “Dad’ It was Pierre. “It’s late. Peanuts are a very versatile. They are boiled, ground into peanut butter, crushed and the oil retrieved , roasted to enjoy. Many people are allergic to peanuts more than any other nut. Peanuts have are an attraction for kids. The idea of cracking the shells and being able to eat the nut inside is a novelty. They do taste good, especially Ivans

Pierre's father was irresponible. He nevered married Pierre's mother. Arnaud found him and made him live up to his responibility, However after Pierre's mother died, the father took off abaonding Pierre. He deserved what Elsie gave him.

You are right about Pat. The apartment and knowing this will be her permanent residence will seem like her prayers have been answered., Pierre lived with his mother until she died. Then he became a shifting child, Arnaud put an end to his wandering from relative to relative. He wanted Christian to adopt Pierre, Christian said no. Ergo, Arnaud's back up, Armand and Colin. I think Arnaud knew that Pierre would be better off with Armand and Colin but he felt it was necessary to offer to Christian first. Pierre's life after his mother died wasn't a happy one

The new apartment is for Pat. Pat had one job in her life, managing the orphanage and then the Home. That was her life and now she has been sidelined to some extent. Armand knew she missed the orphanage and the Home. Now she will continue to be part of the Home and a source of help for Tommy

You are correct. It is interesting that Pierre uses the peanuts as a means to convey his love. One peanut he offers Armand while the other peanut he eats. It is like an act of bonding

I think the man who was head of the State child services heard about the Home and wanted to see it. The ladies operated the orphanages and I'll bet their places were like the original orphanage that was next to Yale, old, run-down, and very crowded

Thanks. There are people in this world who are exactly like these women. They look upon these children as scum, I can imagine the food they eat and the clothing they wear. They are a means to an end. The end being the bitch to a group of hurting children

Silas is a very happy boy and he is going fishing. That's another chapter. I am sure these ladies have been criticized by Dr. Hamlin. i can hear them, no one can operate a facility like you want. Semi-private rooms, it is impossible they are lucky they have a bed.

Silas was picked up on the streets. His father had died several years ago and recently his mother died. He was a street child who tried to live. As a side note, every large city has children like Silas. It sounds like Dr. Hamlin had been talking to Connecticut Child Services. I'm sure he has tried to get the two ladies to improve their homes to no avail. They were looking for something to nitpick. I could imagine them getting down on the floor to find dust. I think the head of New York Child Services heard about the Home from a colleague who probably works at the Connecticut State Child Services. Maybe at a conference or something. He had his interests tweeted and the two women were a thorn in his side. What better way for him to show that there were other places that were much better than the orphanage they were responsible
