Spring break, the boys took off for their camping week, only this time they took Vic and Frank. The dads came over to help me with the farm. I think they were getting bored, at least Dad. He was missing his farm. I was glad they came over. I enjoyed my time with them as we worked side by side. It reminded me of when I was living at home, Dad and I spent a lot of time together. We accept the 'use by date' for merchandise but we find it hard to live our life as if there is an end point and maybe that is a good thing. Yes Vic and Frank are serious about protecting the girls

I agree Charlie accepted people as they accepted him. I see Charlie as a quiet, old soul who helped where and when he could. I think the reason no one showed was because of the boys. People in that town knew and they stayed away because of their rejection of Brad and Tom, Hatred is a poison best not taken. Yes Charlie was quite older than them. He was in the age group of Brad and Tom's fathers.

I'm sure you have met people where comments about them run along the line, "he was a good old soul." or she was. Charlie was the type of man who was appreciative of what Tony offered and he accepted the boys. He accepted people as they related to him, as friends.

Frank hasn't been adopted, Tony and Amalia are guardians, think legal caretakers. So he is free to woo any of the girls.

Several years have passed, and my family has gotten older, which means I am also getting older. I noticed a few whites among the black this morning. I don't know why but a boy and a dog are classic. Cats never seemed to make it. They are too lazy I guess as compared to the the machinations of a dog and a boy. I know you will enjoy your companion, for that is what they are.

I haver had dogs most of my life. There is something about a dog and their devotion that helps to chase the loneliness away. They are devoted to their friend, I hate to say master, but you know what I mean.

I am glad you are in a better place. Your mother must have felt a special love for you. I think she knew you needed that 'mother's love'. I was having a problem and I was dwelling on the past, 'only if I had done this' type of statements. He told me, 'you can't change the past, accept it and move on. You can change the future. focus on that.' I thought that was good advice. I still think, at times, the what if questions. I think that is human nature too try and understand that which to us is illogical.

I am sorry you had to go through what Frank experience. I wish I was there to be a friend to you as Vic is to Frank. You had nothing to do with your mother leaving this plane of existence and it was wrong for your father to behave the way he did. I think you are happy now, they say forgiveness releases the hate, I hope you have forgiven your father and shed that experience.

I wonder if there is ever closure. I have loss family and I still miss them at times. Frank will never forget his mother, he will come to understand why she died, but understanding doesn't replace the individual.

You are correct, each loss has someone to mourn that loss and age isn't a factor. We all know that someday we must move one and normally we have time to prepare those who care for us. But a mother with a young child, how do you prepare the child? There isn't any thing you can do or say to a young child that you will be leaving this life. And they ae the ones who are most devastated.

We read so much about families being torn apart by the Covid 19 illness. Somehow, we are not as affected by adults losing a loved one, unless it is a child. I wanted to show what it would be liken for a child to lose a loved one. Frank's home life, being disowned by his grandfather and now losing his mother. The hurt that boy has gone through could only be shown at the funeral.

It seems that life is like that, into each life some rain must fall. This was a hard chapter for me to write. I wanted to show Frank's feelings representing a lot of children who are losing their parents due to Covid 19.

This was a hard chapter to write. I am always touched by children in their innocence and lack of understanding. They can't understand why someone who has nurtured them has to leave them. I'm glad you felt Frank's hurt.
