    Chapter 28

I agree, give me a good cook, and I'm happy. Of course I say this as an old man.

    Chapter 28

You probably lived in Little Italy or close to it when you lived in Brooklyn. I only saw dandelion in grocery store once, it was just the leaves .

    Chapter 28

I remember one time I had a Cub Scout group and we went camping. I was to bring baked beans and I picked up red beans instead. I added pancake syrup to them, cooked them, the boys ate them and wanted more. I have never found a bad Italian cook, I'm not saying there aren't any, I never found one. All of the Italians I know, could cook some delicious Italian food.

I always wondered about that, and then I don't kn ow anyone who married a woman because she was a bad cook. Wouldn't like to know what is in those letters?

    Chapter 28

I grew up on Dandelion salad. You pick the complete dandelion root and all. You remove the outer layer of the root, then you make a vinaigrette and you have a salad. Some people cook it like spinach. It's very healthy and has a light taste. I recommend it, just be careful where you pick it, stay away from cow pastures. I don't know if you could buy it in a restaurant. I have never seen it on a menu

    Chapter 28

Spring break was over, and the boys and Charlie returned, thankfully without any animals. Amalia and I have been corresponding quite frequently. I invited her to spend the summer with us. She wrote back that Mom had asked her, and she had accepted. Now I knew for sure Mom had picked her for my wife. That night when my visitors came, I told them that Amalia would spend her summer here in that States. Nonna smiled and kissed me on my cheek. I assumed that was her way of giving me her approval

I hope she does as well, although sometimes it takes a school to bring peop-le to their senses

    Chapter 27

I'm not sure but it is a possibility. She didn't reach out to him while her husband was alive. She could have somehow got a message to him. I think the whole town was against the boys. I suspect an ultraconservative preacher with a message was influencing the community. Farmers tend to be conservative religious people. Good gives rain and sunshine to help the crops grow.

    Chapter 27

Yes, it's a bitter pill to swallow. But they will be okay, a sadness in their heart but it won't interfere with their life

    Chapter 27

Yes, her hatred is eating her from the inside. Hatred always leads to misery, and not only for those who are the target of that hatred but those who harbor that hatred. The boys will do well in their knew family.

    Chapter 27

The pain will never leave Brad or Tom. Tony's mother and father will do everything they can to push that pain into a small corner, never to arise again.

    Chapter 27

I have heard so many time of a father blaming a newly born child for the death of his wife. Instead of realizing that a dying wife left a gift to keep his love alive. Stupid people in this world.

    Chapter 27

It seems that nothing good comes from hate. I'm sorry, but hate is never the answer. I guess every unfortunate event in her life will be Brad's fault. Must be nice to be able to blame someone for your mistakes and bigotry

    Chapter 27

Amelia spent most of Christmas and New Years’ at Mom and Dad’s. But I got to see her every day, thanks to Mom bringing her over. The day before school was to start, Amalia flew home. But not before we exchanged addresses and promised to write. School started for the second semester of the year. The boys were glad to get back to school. They needed the discipline of school coupled with the farm’s work to bring normality to their lives after the holidays. Christmas was hard on the boys a

    Chapter 26

You may be right Have a bit of whiskey tonight and when you are done, put. your bad memories in the glass, take it outside and bury it. You are happy now, don't let the past hurt you any longer. Live for today, there is no changing what has happen. Or, you can write a book about your past, make it fiction, then post it on GA. You will get support.

    Chapter 26

As they approached, I stood, my eyes on the young lady. Mom nudged me; when I looked at her, she had a big smile. “Tony, this is one of Camilla’s best friends, Amalia.” Switching to Italian, “Mi fa molto piacere conoscerti” (I’m very pleased to meet you), I felt Mom nudge me on the leg. I proceeded to introduce Mom and Dad. We chatted for a few minutes. Luis and Camilla excused themselves; they had to visit with other guests. I offered a chair to Amalia, next to me, between Dad an

    Chapter 25

Yes my grandmother, my Nonna, had blond hair and blue eyes. Northern Italy was over run many times by Germans, Switz, I guess they left some genes behind. Tony is fine with the language. He grew up with it and had to learn in to be able to read the books in the library. His Nonna and Pa taught him, what his mother didn't

    Chapter 25

Yes, and I think you will see a difference in their actions. Brad hasn't forgotten what hs mother said, but with Tony's mom helping him. they have accepted adopted parents. The role previously played by those blinded folks back there, has been replaced in their lives by caring people who love them for what they are and not who they sleep with.
