I mentioned something about the iron water tanks a while back...I was concerned about rust I think. Maybe that wouldn't be a problem if they stay sealed up. I guess it would not have occurred to them, but why wouldn't they filter the water through a cloth so they wouldn't have to drink green pond scum? It may not make the water any more palatable taste-wise, but at least it would look better! Oh, for a charcoal filtering system!

Mark, I love this story! You could write a new chapter every day and I wouldn't have enough! In fact I think you should do just that! Great chapter, as usual...and I am excited to see what the King has planned for Sir George. Probably Viscount, at least. So if that was true, would his name become Lord George Granger or The Viscount Captain Sir George Granger ? Peerage has always been a mystery to me. Most likely because I ain't one! I just had a thought...the new man with the hook...he's trouble, ain't he??? Hmmmm! Or am I imagining things...'cause one handed men with hooks just have to be evil, don't they? Sorry, too many pirate movies! Arrrrggghhhh! After all the ho-haw doings of the last couple of chapters this one felt better to me individually. I'm not good with crises all the time and living at that level with the aristocracy and putting up with all their crap would drive me nuts. It's nice to see Granger back to preparing for his departure and getting his crew together. Lt. Robey!!! Yum! I'm really looking forward to the next chapter!

I originally posted this under St. Vincent, but I decided to post it here also! I feel better now, I've had my Granger fix!! But on the other hand, now I want more! I like the name of this book, it has a better ring to it. You definitely have me curious about what is to happen on the trip. Things at home seem to be calming down nicely, unless Prince William lied to George, and I doubt he would do that and risk the wrath of the king or prince of wales. I did notice he didn't say anything about the child, though. I wonder what you will do about Arthur...it doesn't feel to me like he will survive this trip...it may only be because of a tropical disease, but somehow I doubt he will survive. That's what I think. I also think it's time for Commander Calvert to show his handsome face again. What else...oh, that's enough for now. Great chapter, Mark!

Good ending, Mark! I'm anxious to read the next phase of the story, so I hope you'll be able to start it soon, if you haven't already. I wonder what Chartley's involvement with Bertie really is...you made it sound as if there could be more than friendship there, plus Chartley must have money issues with Bertie because he was to anxious to get out there and warn him. There has to be some kind of self interest for him to be in such a hurry. Interesting. I think Phillips will become a regular in George's bed on the voyage...unless Winkler becomes too jealous... jeez...more drama!
-
Nice job, Mark! I wonder if Jervis will blow a gasket when he finds out George is going to the East Indies? Well, this is kind of what was hinted at earlier. I wonder if George will have occasion to punch Glouster between the running lights before he leaves. That would probably get him in trouble with the crown, but I'd bet it would stop the chuckles about him. So he has a new ship, familiar crew, his wife taken care of, but we don't know yet about his older brother. Did the operation work? What's going to happen to Davina? Something tells me something is going to happen to her... Thanks again for a great chapter, Mark. I always look for your chapters with anticipation!
-
Great chapter, Mark! I would like to pursue another thing...both Chartley and Granger were assaulted, knocked out cold and both were restrained. How can anyone let that go by without charges against them, not to mention the rape of Granger. I think Davina must be charged with assault even if they don't mention the rape. Surely the laws of the time would demand punishment? Even if she is an aristocrat? What does everyone here think? What are you going to do, Mark? Inquiring minds want to know!
-
No, not a bad thing at all...it's a condition I am very familiar with of myself! As far as the author is concerned...well, we all know what a sad case he is...
-
I'm beginning to think some of the posters to this forum are a little unhinged...
-
What a completely unhinged maniac Davina is...! Jeez, for once I am speechless! I never had a clue you would take it so far, Mark...and now you must bring out another chapter soon! Way to go!
-
Arrrrrgggghhhh! I didn't see that one coming! I suppose it makes sense...Bertie and Chartley were good friends, Mark...you told us so in a previous chapter. I just didn't think about it...Bertie always had whores, not men...I'm surprised George didn't fall off his horse! Be that as it may, this was a great chapter! Congratulations on your win, Mark!

Chapter 36! The beat goes on! I figured George would send Caroline to Brentwood, that only made sense! How he deals with William, I do not know, but I'm sure Chartley will have some idea! I doubt having George bang every woman in sight would help his reputation, I would think having three kids would be evidence enough, even for the gossips. It'll get sorted, of that I have no doubt. Whatever happens, I just know I love every part of this story. Never a dull moment!

As I read this chapter I thought to myself "this is just the kind of crap that I would be so bad at, were I there". I wouldn't be able to put up with all the stuff going on, I'd be asking for a ship to take me to Australia! Granger's more game than I, and I'm sure he'll come out of his doldrums soon enough with his time spent with Chartley to help him along. I think his father will help the most with the king, especially dealing with the royal prick...whom I suspect could also be sent to Australia! It's either that or George will have to duel him and that would be a crime I believe. I don't think was legal to duel the royal family back then, but what do I know?? Arthur needs a good kicking...Cavendish needs to grow up... Caroline I don't know how to read. This chapter really surprised me as to what she would do. Her continuing to see William while George is around just adds salt to the wound. I don't think she is being very smart about this whole affair, and that really surprises me, considering how intelligent she is supposed to be. I can understand the fling part, everyone gets lonely, but she's not being discreet, and she's causing damage to their marriage. I'd be reeling too!
-
Ooooookkkkkaaaaayyyyyy...guess I wasn't too far off with the royal offspring remark I made earlier! Chapter 34 was a little unsettling for me and I think nothing was really decided...plus even Cavendish and Arthur are bickering! At the palace! What next, Mark? You have my undivided attention!
-
You know, I thought about Cavendish, but I doubt that he would do that to Granger. Maybe it's one of the royal offspring...they don't seem to have a sense of morality...
-
Interesting chapter...with a massive cliffhanger! I can only speculate, but I'm pretty sure the father ain't Arthur... There is so much to like about this series, I am sure you will all agree, and no matter whether at home or at sea Mark always manages to bring us vast entertainment with his words. This chapter is certainly no exception...and I don't know how they are going to explain this away. I don't know remember how long Granger has been away! Gawd, on top of everything else going on to come up with this...Mark you are a mean, devious...
-
Hmmm...maybe that forty gun French frigate then that was captured a while ago. I don't recall the name of it off hand, but that would do the trick!
-
Great chapter, Mark!!! You can keep on writing chapters of this saga forever as far as I am concerned! I suppose they'll give Granger a seventy-four now, although I'm not sure that he would thank them for that! But he's a slick talker, maybe he'll ask for his crew to be able join him, eh? He can sweeten the deal with his prize...God knows what he'll be able to do with a bigger ship!

Circumnavigation (99 +11) Operation Wesson

I know this wasn't a cliffhanger but for some reason I'm hanging on by my fingernails... -
Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but that definitley felt like a cliff hanger...so I am confused, CJ doesn't leave cliffhangers....
-
I agree, this one fine chapter, and that is saying a lot because I think all of your chapters are well written. I'm glad Davina's getting taken to task at last, and who better than by Caroline. I'm sure glad she had no qualms about ripping her a new one. What surprised me was Granger's mothers' reaction...she's usually pretty calm about all this stuff!
-
Well, my head is spinning from all the legal stuff plus all the twists and turns in the explanations, so I'll just have to believe everything being said is factual and leave it at that! I had always figured Rachel would show up sooner or later, but I didn't realize that Greg Fowler was Trevor's uncle, I had missed that for sure. I should have guessed something like that, because he was so helpful to Trevor, probably more so than a Customs Officer would normally be. It seems Trevor had a lot more help than he ever suspected! I also suspected the Kookaburra was in fact the Aries, but the difference in lengths of the boats threw me off some. What a chapter!! I think the endgame may be in sight!!! Good Job CJ!! And no cliffhangers...hooray!!
-
Wow, this chapter came just in the nick of time! I've read the whole series several times...I know, I know, but there it is, I love the series! Anyways, I felt a little uncomfortable with Granger going back to Roses. Everything was just a little too peaceful, just a little too easy for me to relax while he was there. Thanks, Mark. I hope you are able to continue with the story soon.

I already reviewed this but I'll say it again...it was lovely!!!
