It was all happening again. I was powerless to stop it. It was 2012 and we were at Lucas Oil Stadium, watching the state high school football championship game. Just as the teams were preparing to retake the field at the start of the second half, a loud crack echoed throughout the stadium and inside my brain. A moment later there was a second loud cracking sound. Then someone shouted, “Sawyer has a gun!” and pretty soon panic took hold as players, coaches and referees ran every which way in sear

I couldn’t believe Pop was gone, but in sitting with Sandy and Dad in Dad’s office, helping to plan Pop’s eulogy, at least it felt like we were doing something, you know? Dad’s words would be heard by billions of people around the world. It had to be perfect. After the three of us just sat there for a little while, staring off into space, Sandy began to speak. “Pop was such a wonderful father. He may have been the president, but no matter what, he always took time for us. I’ll never forget the

“Jer, are you all right?” emerged a familiar voice, bringing me out of my reverie. I looked up to see a concerned look on the familiar face of Kurt DeWitt, David’s Chief of Staff and one of my oldest and dearest friends. I’d just finished talking to David’s brother and parents, and to my parents, and I felt depleted. “I know that was a stupid question,” he went on, “but how are you holding up?” “We all knew this day was coming,” I admitted aloud, “but it doesn’t make it any easier.” “Losing a

My day began just like any other. I ate breakfast in the Governor’s mansion with my wife and Chris, the youngest of our three children and a freshman at Broad Ripple High School. Breakfast was one of the rare times of the day I could be assured of quality time with my family. Kayla, the love of my life, had been my girlfriend all through high school and even before. We’d gravitated to each other the summer between seventh and eighth grade, when I took on the cause of starting gay-straight allian

“Look, I know you’re expecting great things from the Reynolds Administration, Kevin,” I explained. “We intend to honor our commitment to doubling the NIH budget within the next five years. That will bring funding in real dollars to levels we haven’t seen since the Clinton Administration. Doing so is a centerpiece of our plan for the future.” Seated across from me was Kevin Williams, the Director of the National Institutes of Health and a personal friend of David’s. Indeed, Kevin’s husband, Zach

Friday, March 20, 2043 - Thirty-three Years after the End of Naptown Tales I was enjoying a rare, pleasant meeting with some of my constituents in my office in the Rayburn Office Building, when Barry Smith interrupted us. Barry was a longtime friend from back home who’d come with me to Washington and was now my personal assistant. It was his job to keep me on schedule, make sure I didn’t miss important committee meetings, keep track of important bills that were coming up for a vote on the floor

Sunday, March 29, 2009 It was so cool to be on our own with our friends in Washington, D.C. for Spring Break. It was the first time in our young lives our parents had given us so much responsibility. When Trevor and Kurt had told us they were going with their parents to Washington for Spring Break, David and I were so jealous but then we talked our parents into letting us go too, then all our little brothers wanted to go, and Trevor’s little brother’s best friend, Paul, wanted to go. Before we

Legacy deals with the aftermath of the assassination of the first openly gay president of the United States. Was he killed because he was gay, or was it something far more sinister? Although based on the Naptown Tales series, Legacy stands on its own. Legacy takes place approximately 33 years in the future, however, many of the chapters will contain flashbacks to the intervening years. There are a number of twists and turns, and the ending will almost certainly be a surprise.

Hiroshima after The Atomic Bomb The Phone Call “Poppy, Poppy!” a young voice shouted out as our daughter ran into the living room. At nine years of age, Theresa was just beginning to take on the appearance of a young woman. She was one of a new generation of humans born after the liberation - a generation that had no memories of the invasion - a generation that never knew the world the way it was before. “What is it, Sweetheart?” asked Lansley, my boyfriend, my lover, my partner in life. “Ca

Nearly a century before this story begins, a race known as the Cereneans conquered and subjugated the people of Loran. Seeking to expand their empire, they set their sights on Earth, unaware that a refugee from Loran was already there. Although young Lansley was unable to prevent the attack, the knowledge he brought with him allowed the humans to fight back and ultimately rebuild. Little did he and his boyfriend, Steve, realize they were about to play an even bigger role.

I'm sorry the story didn't meet your expectations. Whether the first part is a dream or an alternate reality is really meant to be up to the reader. The other aspects of the story, however, were thoroughly researched. I even re-listened to some of the infamous 911 calls from people trapped in the towers, as painful as it was, and in one case there was indeed the sound of breaking glass just before the call ended. Keep in mind that the windows aren't the only glass in a modern office tower. Very often the offices themselves are walled off from each other by sheets of glass. With respect to the first responders, a term that loosely come to include those who volunteered at the site in the weeks that followed, they did indeed sift through the rubble, aided by earth moving equipment, sorting through the debris to retrieve body parts that could later be identified by DNA. I have met a few of them and they suffer from significant health problems. An insult to New Yorkers? I hope not. I pass by the WTC site every day on my way to work. I'm looking at the lights of the new WTC right now as I type this.

I awoke quietly, unsure of what it was that woke me. I felt disoriented, as if I wasn’t where I was supposed to be. Reaching over, I felt for my lover on the other side of the bed, only to come up empty. Slowly as semi-consciousness returned to me, I remembered that it was Tuesday, a workday, and that Clark had undoubtedly already left for work. I took my time to become fully awake, nuzzling my head deeply into his pillow. Glancing over at the clock radio on the nightstand, I saw that it was

When Tom wakes up the morning of September 11, he knows right away something is off. It doesn’t take him long to discover that Clark, his love, is trapped in Tower 1 of the World Trade Center. Their only hope is a legend from Clark’s Grandmother for a chance to dream again.

Circumnavigation 81: Ultimate Designs
Altimexis replied to C James's topic in C James Fan Club's Topics
As tempting as the idea may be, what about the subtle differences in the design of the 55 and the 57? Do you really think Rachel would have gone to the trouble of changing the basic shape of the Aries, rebuilding the gallery and replacing all the glass, rebuilding the prow and so on? I think not. She could have probably bought a new boat for less money. Great chapter, CJ. Love finally wins out. -
An English Teen, Circumcised in the USA...Nifty changes title.
Altimexis replied to Riley Jericho's topic in The Lounge
You'll get no argument from me there. I can't fathom why anyone would object to the use of the word "circumcision" in the title. Still, it would take a lot more than an abbreviated title - and we are talking about shortening it, not changing it - to get me to pull my stories from a site. If you want to see true censorship, try submitting a story with even the slightest reference of sex to Codey's World. When I posted this morning, I didn't notice that this thread started in March of 2010. It took Nifty a year to respond to Riley's forum posts. Now could someone please tell me what's happened to Riley Jerico? This was one of my favorite stories and now it's vanished completely from GayAuthors, as have all of Riley's stories except his excellent Anthology entry. -
An English Teen, Circumcised in the USA...Nifty changes title.
Altimexis replied to Riley Jericho's topic in The Lounge
Riley, I side with Dom on this one. My first exposure to gay literature was Nifty and there remain a few outstanding authors who publish their stories on Nifty and nowhere else. It was Nifty that led me here and I still publish on Nifty for the benefit of those readers who haven't yet found GA and other quality sites. Most of what's posted there may be crap, but if quality authors don't publish on Nifty, how will their readership discover the world if quality gay fiction? It was a famous British playwrite who wrote, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet." My advice would be to accept an abbreviated title for the story at Nifty and to include the rest in a subtitle at the top of each chapter. I am a man of principles, but a pragmatist. If I pulled my stories from every site that did something I didn't like, I'd have nothing published on the Internet. -
I have been following James' writing over at AD for years. He's a talented writer and this is one of his best short stories. I particularly like the way the story unfold - there is one boy who seems to have everything and three who have nothing, yet they all share a common bond that has little to do with their sexual orientation. Kudos, James. A story well told.

Sandy A Dog’s Tale by Altimexis I’ll never forget the day I first met Timmy. I was just a little baby back then. There were five other puppies in our litter an’ we liked to play all the time. My eyes were barely open when Timmy’s dad came to take me away that day. I sure missed my mom, but it was excitin’ to get out an’ see the world. That was the first time I rode in a car - not that I could see much, ’cause I was in a box. Actually, it was quite frightenin’ at the time, ’cause I d

Humans are such strange creatures. Timmy an' Robbie do the weirdest things together, but they sure seem to have fun doin' it. Timmy's mom an' dad should be happy that Timmy's happy but, now that they know, the poop's really hit the fan. What's a dog to do?

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Chapter 30 - Pillow Talk Dr. Prentice welcomed her two patients into her office and had them sit down to begin their weekly counseling session. “So how’ve you boys been?” “We’ve been great,” Brian replied. “Fully recovered from that trip to Disney World?” “That was over a month ago. Yeah, it was intense, but we’ve recovered.” Dr. Prentice chuckled, then began, “Had any interesting dreams lately?” Brian knew exactly where this was going.

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Chapter 29 – A Helping Hand The boys awoke late on Sunday and quickly showered and dressed, excited at the prospect of another day in paradise. They enjoyed a leisurely Sunday brunch and then decided to take the monorail over to MGM. Because they didn’t have to wait in line, they got through most of the rides that interested them fairly quickly, so they decided to head over and get started on EPCOT for the rest of the afternoon. As they stood in lin

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Afterword Thanks for reading this, my first attempt at gay fiction. I hope you liked the story and that it touched you in some way. I wrote this at a time when I was just coming to terms with my own sexuality, even though I was well into middle age. There’s a bit of me in many of the characters, from Aaron’s early shy and confused nature to Dr. Stevens’ approach to helping kids with spinal cord injury. My own story most closely resembles Alan Sandler’

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Chapter 28 - Recovery “What do you mean I’m adopted?” “Honey,” June continued, “When your father and I were first married, we always assumed we’d have children. To us, having children was a big part of what marriage is all about. It was part of being Christian . . . our duty to God . . . but even more, it was about sharing our love with someone who was a part of us. “After two years of trying, we finally started to realize it wasn’t going to happ

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Chapter 27 - Truth and Reconciliation The events of the next 72 hours were a complete blur. Aaron collapsed to the floor and cried hysterically when he heard the news. Adam heard him fall and got his parents, who eventually coaxed the news out of Aaron. Everyone was shocked. Aaron’s mom called June back and let her know that Aaron was OK, and she found out where Brian was so they could all visit. When they arrived at the same hospital that Aaron and Br

Love in a Chair A story by Altimexis Chapter 26 - Hope and Despair More than two months had passed since Brian’s devastating breakup with Aaron. Another meaningful anniversary had come and gone. Aaron was barely able to get through Thanksgiving, but the anniversary of his first kiss with Brian was a day he didn’t think he could live through - but he did. Winter break was also hard on him. His parents got him a new laptop, but it was small consolation. All he really wanted was Brian. He
