I'm answering that question in the next chapter. Oh, what the Hell? I'll answer now. The Ark, the Ark III, left Earth in a hurry with more people onboard from many nations just like Ark II. Nations that don't necessarily agree. Rival factions and general hate, blame for what other nations have done. The military will be off world. They can act independently of any country's ideology. As impartial as they try to be on the Ark II...but are they? Discord and stupidity is in space with the people. Humans in the same room are going to divide. It's everywhere! On Tau Ceti and Epsilon Eridani. Humans need to grow up. On the Ark III, the military are playing the part of "Keepers of the Peace." Policing that Ark. Is there another reason? I don't know really. My Muse whispered about something... I don't want to address the question alien life. Humans will spread themselves through out this arm of the galaxy. We will be the aliens. I plan of spanning these stories a thousand years or more!

Yes, I toyed with the idea of these stories for some time. There will be epic successes and epic failures. Humans will bring the Human Condition wherever they go. I have stories about the generations of this Ark and I will tell you there are two others...so far. The Earth isn't gone. I have plans for grandchildren and great grandchildren of the people on this Ark II. Are Humans alone in the galaxy? How many worlds will people from Earth inhabit? Just pray I live lonh enough to tell you. (I'm visually impaired but still kicking and the bug to make me write still gnaws on me.) More coming!!

Because periodic checks need to be done by Joel, Hank, Sara Beth, and Rita. The recent time out of stasis was to take a closer look at potential planets were going to be correct...which it wasn't around Alpha Centauri. The news about what happened on Earth was traumatic. They needed Dr. Nayef and Leah Rees to help to deal with it with those out of stasis. The status of the Ark needs to be overseen. Robbie and Robot are there to keep them entertained and help. The next time out of stasis will be in ten years. Again the minds that can judge whether or not a planet will work need to be up, too. The Ark left in January. The length of time they've been up makes it still at the middle of January, for the Ark's residents that have been up. The other residents have only been up a few days so... Athena's systems need checking, the others in the pods need checking even as they are in stasis. Hank checks the engines and ion drive and Joel coordinates information from Earth and that the scientists are on task. There are two wake up times coming. The first is to evaluate the new planet and decide again. The second will be again to check the information and turn the Ark around so the Ark's ion drive can start to slow the Ark down. It's not a quick trip.

Joel sat and did the search for Epsilon Eridani on the chart for the stars. Hank and Rita stood together off to the side to give Joel and Sara Beth privacy but were concerned with what was clearly an upsetting situation with their friends. As Joel was the one that looked over all contact with Earth, you had to conclude there was something terrible in the messages. Joel and Sara Beth separated, but never lost contact with each other. Joel looked at their friends who were joined by the scientists in the room. Joel gave a sad smile, “I read some bad news,” Joel said.

In chapter 5, which I am writing now, there is an explanation about the lack of more advanced robots. I'll tell you now. Robbie is a recreation of a loved character from a movie Joel loves. Robbie looks and acts like Robbie. His various parts have no real purpose. His face plate flashes lights when he talks, but isn't necessary to talk. Components and computer CPUs, and chips...all of that had shrunk even more in the centuries to come. His legs and arms have the joints and mechanical parts needed for walking, moving arms and fingers. His body has almost nothing needed to make Robbie. He looks like Robbie. Hank and Joel discuss recreating Robot from Lost In Space. Robbie's personality is based on the movies and shows but is more Human than the original Robbie ever was. My Robbie has a sense of humor. He cracks jokes and gives Ian a hard time. Is he programed to? Sure, having had thirty years with Joel how could Robbie not? Robot would be the same. He would look and act like Robot from Lost in Space, but he will be a recreation. Programed to look, talk, and act like Robot. He will be Robot! The distraction for the residents on the Ark is necessary. I toyed with recreating several robots from cinema. C3PO? R2D2? Even Bender from Futurama? Soon, the people of the Ark will be busier. This will take centuries. Not that the residents will notice much as a lot of time will be in stasis. What better than a companion there that won't die? Robots! Androids! I remember every one of those shows! I remember the stars and who was the best. Ark II was a great format, but they didn't do alot character development, Gregory Harrison was a great Logan 5 in the series Logan's Run. Truthfully, the written Logan's Run was world wide, there was no City of Domes. The only City of Domes was the orbiting space station that was the real Sanctuary. (Read the series of books if you haven't) The Old Man in the movie was more spry than Peter Ustinov's character. A fit man of sixty was in the book. (Book Worm, that was me.) James Naughton was in the Planet of the Apes series. Okay, I was gay even then. In denial, but gay. I had the biggest crushes on Greg, James, and even Ron Harper. (I fell for it. James Naughton was the brash, good looking astronaut, Ron was the family man, down to earth and blond! You know I don't get very attracted to them.) His mannerisms and values appealed to me. I remember Planet Earth, Genesis II, Strange New Worlds...John Saxon was another crush. (You know Gene Roddenberry had his finger in the pot on some of those. The same actors followed Grandpa Gene wherever he went! Alex Cord! Another mancrush for me! You know, I was married to Robert Urich's characters from Vegas and Spenser for Hire for twenty years, right? In my head I was. We meet in Vegas, I see a crime and he takes me in the Witness Protection and moves us to Boston. Mine can read Crylic! It reads Russian, Ukrainian, and others. To the vocal tones and expression aren't great. Like when it reads Ark it pronounces it like Arkansas. Why? I don't know. Now my narrator program has a nice, male, baritone voice more like my muse Bubba has. I love it!! Its said to strike while the iron is hot. This story is white hot! I can't and don't want to stop. I remember! The episode with Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith from Lost in Space) where he was a kind of Fagin like in the musical Oliver was classic. The jet pack they flew with. That Ark haunted my dreams for years! I loved it! It wasn't awful to me. A bit simple, but I loved it!! I saw it when it came on Saturday Mornings! Oops, I gave away my age. Forget I wrote that. There is more about Robbie in the third chapter. I plan to feature him in this part of the story. I even toyed with the idea of other "robots" as companions like the robot from Lost in Space! Yes, we have made progress. I read daily of some of the political leaders and religious zealots are doing to reverse what little progress we've made. The "Don't Say Gay" law and the problems caused by people who are transgender. It's horrible. My husband and I would be in our second decade if he hadn't lost his battle with cancer. Since Stonewall we have come a long way. People are crazy. There was a Christmas photo of a family I saw where this average upper middle class family with young children posted, smiling at the camera and held assault rifles. The children, too. They were urging others to take the war on us forward. Waging war on us! Relationships are hard, but if you are fortunate enough to find one. Hold on tight. Don't let go. That you have yours after forty-three years...I bow to you. I miss Daniel every day. The world is being destroyed. I pray we can find a solution. Or launch as real Ark to try again. Thank you.

It's coming. Technically, I'm pretty much blind now. I see nothing out of my right eye and very little in my left eye. I have a great program that reads what I wrote and that has been a godsend! I have to do a prooflisten and catch errors that way. It was been so wonderful. I need to change voice from female to male, but...I like women! I do. I prefer men. Duh. Yes, we had looked and it has been "proven" there are potentially habitable planets around distant stars. Spoiler alert, they will find a planet with the needed distance from the host star, whose density, mass, size is near Earth normal. I touched on time as it is measured. The day and number of years to make an orbit will be different. Dividing the time into months of that year, the length of days will be different. It won't be the 365 days in its annual orbit. It won't have a moon...as in one moon. I will say there will be two or more. The Ion gas will propel the Ark slowly faster and faster. When it first started it seemed incredibly slow. The gas continually pushed it faster and kept pushing it faster. I will admit, there is a conversation with the youngest son, Ian who claimed they weren't moving at all except on the Habitat Ring. Joel will tell him they were an explain why it looked like they weren't moving at all. When they arrive at a planet with the right size, mass, and needed water they still will have to wait for the equipment they brought to make it habitable not only for them, but the many animal and plant life in stasis. The equipment will be fast and efficient, but will take time. They won't arrive at a perfect world. They will have to work to make it a suitable world. Then they can perfect it. All the animals, domesticated and wild will be living on their recreation of Earth. It won't be Earth. Nothing raised on this new world will be from the new world. They will all be aliens there. That's the first story. Kevin, Jimmy, and Ian will marry have children and even grandchildren. (I shouldn't have told you that. Now everyone knows they'll get there.) Well, the story is more about the people and how they did it. That is the story! The technology and science is a way to explain how they did it. I hate doing math. Anyway. Gay, straight, bisexual, male, female...everyone will be in the series of tales. And it is a series I have been thinking about for decades!! The other stories will be written. Getting my head on task...that's another issue. I've almost completed the next chapter for this story.

Yes, there is a lot of destruction. Louisiana, Mississippi, coasts all over the world. I mention the coasts of New Zealand and Australia in the second chapter. Many islands in many oceans disappear. I'd send you a map, if I had one. The Ark and the residents won't be dealing with this much. Once out in deeper space and Earth will become a distant memory. A few generations and it will be remembered in images and recordings that are occasionally viewed. I do have an ending with this story. The story is just a part of a great EPIC I want to write. I have a great Narration Program. I now proof listen. Tell me if it doesn't improve.!

And why were you hesitant? Because its not about us? I had a devil of a time writing about Joel's attraction to Sara Beth! I had no trouble writing about her attraction to him. Joel is a straight me. I know I have other stories to write and finish, I use the excuse of having a house full of people. Fourteen! Four dogs, two tortoises, one cat and one pig. Oscar was the pig. Very friendly, except he loved to nibble on my toes...a sign of affection I was told. Litter trained and very clean. Black. He will never become a hot dog. The couple I share a house with each has children and these people were some, though not all of their children. The Fourth of July. The pig was a pet on Andi's grandchildren. Two weeks!! They stayed with us for two weeks!! The noise!! The laughter, squeals from Oscar, the barks from the dogs. I couldn't think! Anyway, I sat to write and couldn't concentrate. I began this story and got in the zone. I couldn't help it! Why would I want to? Blueblood is coming, but my Muse inspired this one. Its just about people and the struggle to survive.
