I fine the writing arresting. I read and then I think about the characters and their interaction with each other. As another character is introduced I become curious about where he fits into what I already know about Jacob. I shall continue reading to discover both the plot and each character the writer has created.

I agree with the comments about stimulating interest both in the characters and the contrasting reactions to the stranger. Getting the bath ready was an interesting final touch to this chapter. The narration was confusing for me. Did I hear the voice of the writer or of the bartender or the stranger. I look forward to additional chapters.

The first chapter caught my attention and caused me to anticipate the development of the narrative. Thanks.

Leaving home may be necessary but nevertheless painful. I look forward to the adventures awaiting the three friends.
