I don’t know why I feel this way, but it seems to me that our Herald failed or is failing this test. Am I reading this completely wrong?
  2. Saaaaame. Also, "hungry bottom" - I chortled.
  3. I’ve probably read this 6 or 7 times now in its entirety and I just love the story and your characters. Do you think we might get a book 2 sometime in the near future? I’d definitely be a loyal reader 😅 hint hint, nudge nudge
  4. Exciting start to this story; I’m curious as to where we are going with Tal’s love for Aid and if its reciprocated. Great start! Can’t wait for the next chapter.
  5. Howdy! Me again. Thanks for writing all these reviews. I keep finding such gems. I just read all three books and COULD NOT put them down. It has been a long time since a political thriller (would that be the best description?) has held my attention as much as this series did. Truly great series. I fell in love with the characters and to be honest was a little heartbroken at the hinting Bauer did about a certain character being a double-agent. Fantastic series, 10/10 recommend. Thanks again. Loved it.
  6. Thank you for posting this review. I’ve just finished the book and it was delightful. I hope Maxwell writes another book in this universe, hopefully about Kiem and Jainan. I was totally sucked in and read it during my free time over the last day or so. So good. I really enjoyed the approach to gender she employed. Very interesting; thought-provoking.
  7. I was really starting to miss my daily Grumpy Bear post! What a great start - looking forward to this story!!
  8. Truly a great review, and dead on. Like I mentioned on a previous review, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud so much at a book (or series). And Klune’s unapologetically gay universe is just so comforting. I would love to live in Sam’s world. You forgot to mention Mama! She may be my favorite character in the series; reminds me of so many elder drag queens I used to know. Wolfsong is great, too - a completely different universe with different rules, but also extremely well written. The entire Green Creek series is what got me interested in Klune to begin with. Klune is a blessing for gays everywhere.
  9. Looking forward to the review! And thank you for the rec - definitely adding to my list!
  10. I’ll have to read Kick at the Darkness. I’ll admit I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy (why am I ashamed to admit that?). And there are certain books I re-read every year. Right now I’m reading the Expeditionary Force series by R.C Bray. Fave sci-fi series is The Expanse. Neither is gay. I did recently go on a TJ Klune kick and read literally every book he has written - I got started with the Green Creek series and flew through Tales from Verania, then others from there. So gay and most are so so good (I was unimpressed with one of his series, but I won’t name check which one). He has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed out loud so many times as when reading Tales from Verania. I also read a lot of shifter novels; good (rare), bad (soooo many) or just messy (mpreg). A lot of them are just unbelievably awful; formulaic and repetitive with extremely tired tropes, no originality. But I read them anyway. What I would like to read is an unapologetically gay space opera. If you have any recs, I’d love to hear em.
  11. Can’t say I disagree with that :) I think I was additionally disappointed because one of my favorite gay authors, Christopher, son of Anne, highly recommended it. I was expecting the emotional impact of A Density of Souls only to be met with Twilight.
  12. As an elder millennial I enjoyed the vehicles mentioned above that moved the story along - the emails, etc., but overall the story was way too saccharine for me. I didn’t feel like either of the protagonists was realistic or believable. There was a lack of maturity in the writing itself that kept the story from making a real emotional impact for me. I did enjoy several of the supporting characters like his father and mother. I, too, laughed ridiculously at several points like the PowerPoint. But Luna ended up being a big disappointment to me. Overall, 2/5.
  13. This is a great start, Grumpy Bear! I am excited to see where this goes.
  14. I’m not buying what Victor is selling when it comes to Gustav. That was pretty weak sauce, with Chris gobbling it all up. If there isn’t more to it, I will be extremely surprised. Nobody forgets their supposed significant other for four hours after they disappear and downplays a relationship to someone he messed around with for no reason. Since when is Chris concerned about people knowing he is gay? Why would Victor feel the need to hide it? At what point did it make sense to start hiding Chris when literally everyone they ever come into contact with knows they are together? Not buying this bs. Makes Victor extremely untrustworthy.
