    Chapter 11

My sentiments exactly. Hang in there and your wish will be granted - but probably not in the way you expect.
  2. Thanks, Ulysses. I appreciate you taking the trouble.

    Impersonation

Have patience, young man. All will be revealed one day. Didn't your mother tell you not to read too fast? You'll get mental indigestion; you're supposed to read slowly, savouring the delectable prose.

Perdita remained in the car with the radio blaring pop music while her son ran upstairs. Marshall sat quietly while Mort gave as detailed an account of the afternoon as possible, considering his anguish, with Angelo recording it on his video camera. ‘She’s a dangerous woman,’ Marshall said angrily. ‘I reckon she organised those two louts hoping you’d be so damaged she’d be given access to you and the inheritance she’s so sure you have.’ ‘That also crossed my mind. She certainly wasn’t pl

He has Hope, and Courage, and an Aim, and plenty of Goodwill toward others, the problem is that External Goodwill keeps drifting away and the 'Right Path' remains strewn with obstacles - but he has faith in himself.

Really, Canuk - Mort is the innocent victim of circumstances beyond his control... sort of. Although, I sometimes get the feeling that somehow he's got everything under control in a random-chaos world over which he exerts a subtle influence... time and chapters will tell, no doubt.

Your tender heart does you great credit, Okiegrad but, like John Bunyan's Pilgrim, I think he'll weather the trials and tribulations and arrive in 'paradise' cleansed and whole. [No, I am not being facetious. While I can't take most of Bunyan's moral arguments seriously, the principle of the arduous journey that teaches one to appreciate the 'good' things while strengthening the inner man, is valid.] so... Yes and no...[to the last statement] He's met some wonderful people, & he's a very smart guy. Without valleys there are no mountains. It is commonly suspected that much of the current ennui that leads to excess in sex, behaviour and drugs, is due to growing up in a life of ease and comfort, with all whims satisfied, few real challenges.

Ha ha... half right, half wrong. And of course Perdita is correct, Mort is a wealthy young man. Sandwiches shy of a picnic - that's a new one. Thanks.

    Bullies

Yes indeed - a man eating bitch - as you pointed out.
  11. Stymphalian/Stygian - who's counting. Perdita's a Man-eating bird so you're not wrong.

‘They look horrible!’ she whispered, unable to keep the excitement out of her voice. ‘I think they mean trouble! What’ll we do?’ ‘You’ll do nothing. Just stay exactly as you are and pretend you’re my sister.’ ‘When you’re sitting there with a fat?’ ‘My girlfriend, then.’ ‘You seem pretty cool about this.’ ‘They’re flabby yobs looking for a fight. I know the sort. Be pleasant so we aren’t the one’s who start a quarrel, and leave the rest to me.’ ‘But…’ ‘Shhh. Here they
  13. You have a very devious mind, Skyacer!
  14. You are indeed a soft touch Canuk! Really, how have you managed to live this long without losing your sweet innocence? Your crystal ball needs a spot of maintenance, I reckon.
  15. An interesting idea, Wesley. You fooled me for a minute - with the 'bike' reference. Very smart. I've never read that task of Heracles - thanks -will look it up.
  16. Another brilliant prediction - are you reading my mind?
  17. Maybe in the US - not here, the market for gay stories is very limited in Australia. But it would be fun to write one of those soap operas that go on forever, crisis after crisis... It's nice to know you're enjoying the ride - that's what it's all about - fun and thinking and wondering and not getting too up tight about the insanities of humans.
  18. ‘I’m all sticky, scratched and dusty, so I’m not putting my school uniform on.’ ‘You can’t go home naked!’ ‘If course I can, and so should you, you’ll ruin your good clothes if you put them over that filthy body. There’s a towel in the back, hang on.’ Mort clambered into the back of the Land Rover and retrieved a towel. ‘Here, wrap this around your loins if you’re shy. If anyone sees you they’ll think you’ve just come back from the beach.’ ‘Fair enough. But if we have an accident, I
  19. Predictions, predictions - I love them... Are you keeping tabs on haw many you guess right? Glad you liked it.
  20. Thank you, thank you, thank you. It's one of my favourites - and as you will see, it actually does advance the plot - ever so subtly - as always.

    High School

As usual, We are in accord. After a few years in Co-ed schools, I taught in a Boys Grammar and loved it. Adolescence is precisely the wrong time to thrust both sexes together in a learning situation. They require entirely different approaches.
  22. Multiple commiserations!
  23. Bravo to you, for supporting those two brave guys. No more of George, but loads more of Mortaumal.
  24. An ‘Old-boy’ [previous student] who was now a famous rugby player, had been invited to speak to the school during the usual sports periods. To ensure one hundred percent attendance, all sports including cross-country running were cancelled. ‘I have to go running!’ Mort stated to a startled Mr. Caprine whom he’d cornered in the laboratory at the end of the period. ‘I just have to! I’m all tied up inside. Zoltan’s gone. Everyone I liked is dead. I’ve no friends. I think I’ll smash something if
