The two strings of onions are normally hanging in the ground floor of the old cottage from nails set in the wooden joists that support the floorboards in the upper story. Because it is so dark inside, I decided to temporarily hang one of them from a spike set in the wall outside the cottage to take the photograph.

Yesterday was a washout here in Ireland. Today's a bit drier, but the forecast for the week isn't really all that promising. A definite autumnal feel to the day.
