    Il Gran Si

Had we really seen what we thought we had seen? Were the deer just an apparition? Surely not, as we both had seen them. I knew from my studies of Native American life that deer symbology signified an ability to move through life’s challenges with grace and agility. The deer was also seen as being sensitive and intuitive. Deer imagery also signified a magical ability to regenerate and bring meaning to life’s mysteries. Mason had the deer antlers and white tail on his loin cloth. Little did we
  2. Fleshco. Gotta love those Southern Baptists. NOT!!! Deep seated homophobia that the guys will have to confront.
  3. BabyXander. I hadn't thought of Mason and Jimbo acquiring the camp. Great idea. They would be terrific camp directors. However, life is going to give them another opportunity.
  4. My body and mind were restless all day. There was frisson with everything I touched. My senses were in overdrive. I was waiting for Mason and his parents to arrive. I had showered and put on my best uniform. First impressions were important. Actually, it was too late for a first impression but in some ways this was the first time his parents would see me as a partner to their son. I had been pacing the parking lot for an hour waiting for them. At last, I saw their car pull into the lot so I squa
  5. In the next chapter, Mason returns to camp. Let the games begin..........................
  6. Mail was handed out each day at the end of lunch. The Camp Director enjoyed being postmaster. He would call each troop leader forward to pick up the group mail and then he would call each staff member who had a letter or package. It was all a little too silly but he had a great time. It was Wednesday and I had been given some special assignments to help prepare for the Parent’s Night at camp. My rear end could hardly sit still on the bench because I wanted to finish my tasks and take a nap.
  7. It is on the way. I am happy that you are enjoying the story.
  8. They are two incredible men (boys) with their stories to tell. Adolescent growth and development is amazing and is often two steps forward, one step back. The emotional intelligence required of both in future chapters is interesting to write and I hope will be interesting to read.
  9. When I was in the first grade my parents made me keep a travelogue when we went to Spain on vacation. It was a combination of a work trip for my mother and some vacation time afterwards. My mother told me that later in life I would appreciate having this memory book of the trip. I knew how to read and write at fifth grade level when I was in the first grade so it was no problem. I enjoyed it so much that I have made and kept a travelogue of trips since then. They form a history of my life.

    Camp Falls

I had decided it would be my last year as a counselor at Camp Falls. The Scout Council had bought this property three years prior and each summer we would tame a bit more of the wilderness as we created a highly functional summer camp. It was still rough and wild. The new camp was so different than the old camp which sat on the James River. Preparing for camp then was basically picking up fallen limbs, unpacking the tents, collecting snakes for the nature tent and finalizing our training curricu

    Jimbo

Jimbo is serving his final year as a counselor at Camp Falls. He has just graduated from high school and will enter University in the fall. Everything is going smoothly until a troop arrives without a Scout Master. Jimbo is assigned to the role and meets Mason, a scout having his first experience at Camp Falls. The frisson between the two leads to a them entering a partnership. The challenges of Scout Camp, their parents and larger forces shape who they are as a couple.
