It is a book I will go back to time and again. I love what Di Canzio did with the story and his homage to Forster's work. The tone and style of the writing felt familiar yet the story line was new. I agree with you about bringing Kitty into the story. However, that did set it up for an unexpected opportunity and ending. Alec did get to cross the ocean, after all. Mac

I read the book in the early 1970s when I came out. I still have that copy and at times think I should read it a second time. Then I look at all of the contemporary fiction waiting to be read and never venture down that torturous path again. It was of a time and place. Mac

I found the book lived into the genre. I enjoyed it immensely and have re-read it 3 times. As one of the older generation, I enjoyed experiencing the youthfulness and it gave me pause to wonder how I would act as a 20 something in today's world. Clearly a fun romp and I enjoyed the ride. Mac

Yonatan is his own worst enemy....sometimes. He needs a mentor that will help him grow into manhood. Who is that mentor that can be trusted? He had a great mentor in Mr. Fish at Boy Scout Camp though he turned out to be a something of a twit. But underneath that was a great sense of compassion and caring for Yonatan and was helping him grow. Anton, it has been a tough winter and spring but things are getting better. The hospital screwed up on several levels. The doctors discovered a mass in Joe's chest - this week they did a bronchoscopy and determined it was a pocket of infection deep in his lung. He is on antibiotics and that should resolve. Joe has recovered from his heart attack and is feeling better than he has in years. I have recovered from my bout of Covid with no long term effects. I had both Moderna shots. Hopefully, I won't need a booster. So, my life is returning to normal as I try to spend time writing. Mac

Remember that Yonatan and Matan are boys. Really they are. They don't have enough life experience to finesse situations. Pure gut instinct to survive. Mac
