  1. GU a liberal institution? Hardly. It gave professorships to Kissinger, Kilpatrick and the like back in the 70s and 80s, and has always been more conservative than other Jesuit schools. I remember the consistent position of the University was not to allow funding for any kind of gay student organization until 2007. A Jesuit as Dean of the SFS? They can't find a Jesuit to be president of GU. A Cadillac SUV? Those things SUCK! And I won't get into the environmental effects of a monster truck. The dads have some penance to do, and Owen should make them do it soon!
  2. I thought about Anacostia as well, but it's much too far away from the Hill and Foggy Bottom. If CJ doesn't want to move out of the District, Anacostia is not for him (though it is on the way to Andrews . . .). I'm sure his development corporation will do something amazing, however, and Thiago and Harley (as natives) might be real help.
  3. I was at a reception at Ted Kennedy's home in Virginia once. I had heard of and seen "me walls" before. This was a "me house." EVERY available wall was covered with pictures of Ted and family meeting with various celebrities and pooh-bahs from around the world. I noticed that I hadn't seen any pictures of Joan, so I went on a search. I certainly didn't see every picture, but I saw a lot of them, and not a single picture. It had only been a few months since their divorce, but the display had been thoroughly sanitized. Weird. Adams Morgan, Shaw, H St Corridor, Lincoln Park, Hill East -- These are the neighborhoods CJ should look into. Gentrification on Wisconsin Av in Georgetown by a Guppie couple? Whoda thunk? "Something to tell our kids about." -- hmmmm. Could this be foreshadowing?
  4. Carlos, I'm enjoying the story and interacting with you. I expect no real spoilers. I'm good. I would, however, appreciate a timeline through the various stories. Oh, and which Parker Owens story has Michael and Blaine?
  5. Arabic! If CJ wants to make some serious inroads for peace, the Near and Middle East is the place. "Modeling"? Maybe Chipper could take a page out of Sean's book and get a hook-up with Anthony Gillum at the Mondrian. Real estate? In Miami? In a time of global warming and rising sea levels? Good luck with that CJ.
  6. CJ's first Convention! My stomach tensed up with my memories of NYC in 1976 and 1980, and I was just an intern/staffer/page. It's a heady atmosphere! CJ is all rugged individualist about helmets as a personal choice, but doesn't account for the follow-on social costs. Now if he's willing to pay for the extra insurance his personal choices with helmets, guns, smoking, etc, entail, then sure. But I don't want to be in the ER when the ambulance brings him or one of his buddies in. CJ's endorsement of the death penalty, while completely consistent with his pro-choice stand, will fly in the face of his commitment to racial equity and reconciliation. The Odyssey is the original road trip.
  7. Carlos, My condolences on the death of your dad, hard enough, and with the final separation, even harder. May he rest in peace. I have no doubt that CJ is working on his own issues, and pretty successfully. What I meant to say is that Silas will always know that he's Black in a white society. You mentioned Thai Toni in a comment and I dug up the story. When I realized it was set in South Beach and that CJ would be heading there the next time he goes to Miami, well, I had to put it in my comment. How does any organization in Miami operate without someone who speaks Cuban? A propos of chapter 1, I was happy to see Patrick and Ritchie decide to go to Mass as a way of dealing with their grief over the Pulse shooting.
  8. End of Life Decisions: Juan/Abo. I remember having to have this conversation with my dad, a lawyer for several hospitals, because mom said he refused to make these documents out, on the eve of major abdominal surgery to deal with liver/pancreatic tumors. I finally convinced him by telling him that if he didn't do the documents, then his wife would be the one making the decisions if something happened. The were done the next morning. It… doesn’t… matter… to us. -- Not to CJ and family, but it matters to Silas. He's the one who's Black in a white, affluent, privileged family in a culture that privileges white money above all else. Is some of it internalized racism? Probably. But CJ doesn't need to be telling Silas that his feelings don't matter. Sasha can't get Ritchie an invite to the South Lawn for fireworks? That is THE BEST spot in town! So will CJ visit the next time he's in South Beach? https://apnews.com/article/ac61484a52604afeadf9360df08c4e1c Given the reference to Dallas in this chapter of Georgetown Roar, I think Thin Blue Line fits in the middle of this. If you want a friend in DC, get a dog! -- HST. Not sure if that applies to Chicago.
  9. 16yo? Isn't CJ 18 by now? EXACTLY!! When I saw the title of this section, Georgetown Roar, I thought for sure that CJ was going to join GUCrew and force them into a "Get Naked for Fundraising" scheme like the one at Warwick in the UK. I'm trying to sequence the one-off items into the whole CJ timeline. The episodes are listed as late in the series (in the teens), but have last edited timestamps earlier in the series, and seem to be set during the series.

“I don’t think I could do this all the time. Getting high first thing in the morning means I’ll prolly be useless the rest of the day.” -- especially when he's going to need clearances. OTOH, this just in from the Biden administration: https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/past-marijuana-use-won-t-automatically-disqualify-biden-white-house-n1258917 Lola in the vehicle? Does CJ have a permit for interstate carry? They didn’t go to sleep right away and by the time they did, both were sweaty and woke up the next morning glued together. -- I hope they weren't using that gorilla glue stuff. "It would take a savvy international spy to squeeze it out of me. The secret, that is." -- enter Spike, secret agent man.

Spike and CJ could be each other's cover, but JUST for cover! I had a classmate who was recruited by the Company. He. Was. Furious! He thought it would ruin not only his own reputation, but his company's as well (he had inherited an international shipping concern on his dad's death).

Don't shame Harley for who he loves! Love is love! BROOME!!! I, too, was initially worried when Patrick me mentioned "the priests," and imagined even worst that he'd been hit on by one of the priests after Patrick had come out to him. While he may not go back to Maine, he's in good company with the Jesuits at Holy Trinity who will help him see that in his gayness, he is nonetheless fearfully and wonderfully made. Who knows, he may even have a religious vocation. While I'm also sad Hillary lost (I REALLY wanted a taco truck on my corner), I'm convinced she would have accomplished nothing because of obstruction, haranguing, investigations^nth, and worse.

But he could be an analyst instead of an agent. They could be "Agency husbands" provided by the Company, And Ezra in the IDF? Man, THAT is a tough row to hoe both as a Palestinian AND as a Christian! BTW, although some of Jerusalem's streets are Roman, none of the structures are pre-Christian.

But does it include some alone time with Ajax or some other character?
  21. Not everyone, but everyone who was in New York does.
  22. I'm surprised no one introduced him to Chipper. Vail? Really? I suppose for jet-setters like Brett's parents, it would be more glitzy, but more and better snow is available in Summit: Copper, Breck, Keystone, A Basin, and it's easier to get around and more open.
  23. I'll speculate. Given his interests in architecture and politics, he's not in nursing or even business. His aptitudes for history, language, and government are certainly a fit for SFS, but it's a tight curriculum that may not have enough latitude for him and the students may be too "driven" for his taste. In College, he can indulge everything and the pressure is a bit lighter. But I found College a bit parochial, if a bit more laid back, and the SFS more cosmopolitan in their outlooks. Of course, everyone lives together and the courses are not really so segregated until the upper levels. So, I give even odds for SFS and College, and I think he'll choose SFS.
  24. One is not simply admitted to Georgetown, but to one of its constituent schools, so which one: CAS, SFS, BS, NHS?

I do not remember 3rd Edition, but I was not a bar guy when I was there, except for Ireland's Four Provinces on upper Connecticut, Murphy's in Alexandria, and the Dubliner on Capitol Hill. Even when I was working at the WH or on the Hill or on K St. But then, I'd read those first stories in the Times and I was terrified of hooking up. My best night out was my 21st with a friend. Dinner at Two Nineteen and drinking and singing at Murphy's. AMAZING!!!
