Hello everyone! It's been a little over a year since you all have last heard from me, but I am still alive and kicking! However, instead of posting Chapter 19 like I'm sure you were expecting, I've come to let you all know that this story is going on an official hiatus. When I first thought of this story almost a decade ago, I had very different plans for how I wanted it to go. I brainstormed the plot for years before starting to write it, and even then the story kind of took the wh

I know 😔 thank you for pushing through it!

Hong Shen blinked slowly, allowing his eyes to adjust to his surroundings as his mind caught up. After a few seconds, he shut his eyes tightly, taking a deep shuddering breath as his heart started to race. Exhaling, he prayed that his mind was playing tricks on him, before opening his eyes once more to the same sight. Cold light filtered from the cracks of the dark curtains over the window, reflecting over the floor length mirror on the far wall. A flat screen TV stood alone in the opposit

The narrow alleyway was cold. The winter air added to the chill, but it was more than just the weather. It was the emptiness, the silence, and the hollow feeling that amplified the agony buried deep within my soul. The pain that woke me during the long, lonely nights, awakening from the bittersweet bliss of a wish made hopeless by reality. A desire formed from the consequences of my life; a dream fate rendered impossible through death. Harrowing karma fit for a lifetime of mistakes, the go

It was late into the evening. I had already made the girls food, a cheap dinner from what I found in my sister’s pantries. They had grown restless from sitting and listening to my story for so long, and now they were seated before the television in the living area. Tuning out the sounds coming from the TV, I dialed my sister’s number on my phone once again. This was the third time in as many hours, and I was nearing my limits on how much longer I would wait before looking for her. Hong Mei

A heavy silence fell upon the room, broken only by the crack of Guan Shixin’s neck as he rolled it back and forth. At last, Zi Sheng Shou spoke up. “You mean to tell me Guan Yushe is capable of taking over the entire Imperial Complex and holds enough power to dethrone the Emperor?” His tone was almost incredulous, but his face was carefully blank, his colored eyes expressionless. “Yes.” “And how do you know this?” Hong Shen countered, suspicion written across his features. Not o

Luck is on their side... for now 。:゚゚(´∀`)・。 Perhaps... or perhaps he is a part of it. Who will know? (○´艸`)

Guan Shixin set a swift pace down the winding dirt road snaking through the tall trees, checking behind his shoulder every so often to look for pursuing soldiers. None appeared, but his vigilance never ceased, even after an hour and a half of nothing. The sun had already begun to set above the treeline, and the slowly sinking light began to filter through the branches on their right, reaching them at about eye level. Before much longer it would disappear completely, and they would be left

The place Yan Rui called home was nothing more than an abandoned shack on the outskirts of the town. The wood was old and rotting, held together by a few frayed pieces of rope he had managed to scavenge, and when it rained a dusky and moldy scent would surround the decaying structure for days. Ducking inside, he removed Senior Mu’s arm from around his shoulders and attempted to help him sit upon the cold, unfurnished ground, but the man swatted away his hands and remained standing, a rathe

Hi! I am so happy for this story oh my goodness! I saw the Wuxia tag and did a double take! So is this like a fanfiction with your own addition of Chinese myths and stuff or like a continuation of Heaven Official's Blessing? Regardless I am ecstatic to see more people write about ancient Chinese folklore on this site and will be sure to read up on this! ✧( •⌄• )✧

Yeah, the sporadic posting is my bad (^_^;) Sorry about that! Let me know if you have any other questions!

What do you mean? Maybe I can clear some confusion!

Word of the new Dragon Guard’s arrest seemed to have spread fairly quickly, for there were countless servants, eunuchs, nobles and guards idling around, watching him with matching expressions of disdain and malice. The eunuch didn’t bother to stop them, watching from the steps of the South Palace with a weirdly smug expression. Hong Shen didn’t bother to mask his anger, glaring at all who dared make eye contact with him. His two escorts weren’t any nicer, dragging him along out of the South

Well, no, he wasn't... I think it will make more sense if you keep reading (*´ ∀`)And that's a really interesting idea, but not quite! Think more of a really wacked Ancient Chinese beauty and the beast!

So I did laugh a little while reading this, because this must be fate playing around again. The Mongol Empire began after Genghis Khan's descendants finally conquered the remains of the southern Song Dynasty, and that happens to be the same Dynasty my fictional story is mirrored with! Whats even more hilarious is the fact that I was planning to incorporate some events from the Mongol invasion of Song in my story! Regarding your questions, I am actually Chinese, though I only lived there for about 3 years before I moved back to the US 2 years ago. I was shocked to see how little I knew of my own culture, so I talked a lot with my high school mandarin teacher and did a LOT of research. Even now, after coming up with the idea of TSPBT and writing it, I still have just whole research days where I gather information on all sorts of things! If you want to learn more about dynasties, I would definitely ask some native Chinese people if you know any, and if not, certain historical websites like Brittanica have helped me. Or, I could tell you what I know, which is mostly about the Song Dynasty and mythology! But one thing is for certain - if you want to be sure you have accurate information while researching, read several different sites about the same topic and pick out what they have in common. Brittanica is usually pretty good but sometimes it leaves out certain events and has different versions of things. Also, don't try to absorb it all at once! There are 13 major Dynasties of China and countless smaller ones, so just have fun and take it at your own pace! (^∀゚)ъ

A surprise! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ It's quite the predicament~ but our hero can't be defeated just yet! I'm glad you enjoyed the mythology!
-
Thank you so much! I love the idea that the Great Divine Saints and the Hell Lords are the same people, but I won't spoil anything! You'll just have to read on and find out ♡ It's not normal at all, of course! That's what makes it entertaining!

Er-ge was rather shocked at the question, though he quickly resumed his placid expression. “The dragons? Wei shen me?” “Does it matter? I doubt you came here to sit around and talk about life, so why not talk about something useful,” Hong Shen drawled, sarcasm dripping from his voice. Even if Er-ge didn’t understand what sarcasm was, no doubt he could pick up on the tone. After observing him for a few seconds, Er-ge lowered the hand holding his fan into his lap, still waving it slight

o(≧∇≦o) Yes! I'm so happy you can see that! Yan Rui will always be my precious little bean, and I hope you all will come to love him as I do!

Something that will surprise you, I hope! (´∀`)ノ

With a gulp, Yan Rui turned his head away, closing his eyes for a moment to gather himself. He was no stranger to missing limbs and grotesque wounds, but to have such a gash on one’s eyes… He shivered just trying to imagine it. Steeling his nerves, he turned his attention back to the person, who seemed to have a masculine look to him, even with his unkempt black hair and high cheekbones. His clothes were ripped and torn, showing numerous scratches on the skin, and they were soaked through,

Thank you! I appreciate your support ♡ Thank you as well! This story will definitely be faster paced than TSPBT, so it won't be as long either!

In the halls of the West Palace, where dozens of officials and generals roamed and discussed in an environment of sound, the silence was deafening. It wasn’t the grim silence of death, or the tense silence of fear, but that of absence. The festival of the new Dragon Guard had drawn away all the people in a time of celebration and wonder, and there was no reason for any to remain behind. And yet, there was one who had. Mu Sile stood alone in a small room, the existence of which

“The wound caused by a sword can eventually be healed; the hurt resulted from vicious remarks can never be undone.” Under the rule of the Second Emperor of the Guan Dynasty, the Empire has begun to fall into civil ruin, with conspiracies running rampant and political unrest echoing throughout the land. Yan Rui, a peasant of the lowest caste, has always been ugly since he could remember. Harassed and ridiculed because of his looks, the most he can do to stay alive is lick the feet of the wealthy and pray for scraps. But when a blind man stumbles into his life, even the ugliest person can have a heart of gold.
