  1. I really appreciate how much the readers of the first two books in my Werebears in America series (Trophy Cub & Savage Beasts) have connected with and care about the fates of the characters. While the first story was primarily about establishing the relationship between Gunnar & Mike, the second story introduced many new characters and couples. Before I get started on Book 3, a quick poll to see which characters the readers of the series would most like to see featured as the main focus of the third story. Thanks, 💙 Grumpy Bear
  2. Six years later… Gary sat in the reception hall of the Allegheny Mountaineer Academy. He hoped with everything that had happened in Bill’s life since graduating at the top of his class five years prior that he remembered his promise to his old instructor to come back to the reunion. Several of the young men from Bill’s class had already arrived and begun to mingle. They all eagerly wanted to talk to Gary about their lives since attending the Academy, and to thank him for all that he

  4. This is the piece of jewelry that served as inspiration for the necklace Gunnar gave to Mike:
  5. Hi Everyone! I know - I ended this story with a very sappy cliché... a wedding... but it was the right thing to do at this stage in Gunnar and Mike's relationship. Gunnar had made a comment back in Trophy Cub that his biggest regret was that Nils had died before they could have been legally married. I don't think he wanted to let the opportunity pass him by with Mike.
  6. Gunnar and Mike caravanned with Thomas and Sam from Duluth to Eau Claire where they stopped for a late lunch and to say goodbye until the next time they were called to Calgary for Lycan Council business. Following their meal, Gunnar and Mike headed east to Green Bay, while Thomas and Sam headed south to Madison and Chicago before turning east toward West Virginia and their little cabin in the mountains. Sam had not had a chance to start the restoration project on his Papa’s ’55 Thunderbird

I envisioned it as a slow learning process. There were probably many in-between that did not survive, or were perhaps born "too aggressive" to be allowed to live. It really wasn't until his final two that he seemed to have mastered the right type of human to target for changing into one of his creatures. He started in the 1930's and wasn't able to get his first one to survive until 1952, so trial-and-error was most likely a huge factor all the way through his process of building the army.
  8. The bears remained in Calgary for another three days to be sworn-in, move into and furnish their assigned office spaces and councilmember apartments, and attend the remainder of the special session meetings for the week. The Council’s timid tailor had an entire new wardrobe of suits prepared for the five Council bears and their cubs to keep in their apartments for full-Council meeting days. Per Axel’s request, his set of suits were made from soft black and brown leather, and the white linen sh
  9. The wheels of progress turn slowly! But, the bears are the protectors of all, so if we encounter any were-felines in the future, they're more likely now to have an ally on the Council.
  10. “Just a few more days, sweetie,” Gunnar said into his cell phone speaking to Vera as he straightened his tie in the mirror of their suite. “If you and your daughter and Johnny are worn out, go ahead and close for a couple of days. The middle-of-the-week business is usually slow anyway.” “Yes, the important thing is that we’re both still alive. There’s just some more… bear business that we have to take care of in the aftermath.” “I can’t really talk about it over the phone, but w
  11. No, werebears have no weakness to silver, gold or any other ore or metal. Werebears can be killed through severe injury that can kill faster than they can heal, even with their fast healing powers. A regular bullet to the brain or heart will kill a werebear, but a bullet to the gut or other organ would most likely be healed and therefore non-fatal.

This plan would only work on the one night a month the entire pack left the pack house empty for the night. It also works because Nick isn't a particularly good head of security. The Alpha obviously has other motivations for rewarding him with a high-ranking position that he is unqualified for. 😉
  13. Gunnar stood looking out the window of his guest suite within the North American Lycan Council headquarters, gazing at the Canadian Rockies that dominated the horizon to the west of the city. Mike padded up behind him barefoot and wrapped his arms around his Papa, kissing him on the neck and enjoying the view. “Who would have thought when we started this adventure that we’d end up getting a free vacation somewhere so beautiful!” Mike said, hugging his Papa tightly. “Technically, t
  14. Mike and Gunnar stood side-by-side on their hind legs in their full grizzly forms, their clothing shredded at their feet, bracing for the impact of the dababbi monster that was charging directly at them. “Love you, Cub,” Gunnar growled softly in the bear-language to Mike. “Love you more, Papa,” Mike growled back, and they both struck a defensive posture as the dababbi neared them with wild anger in its eyes. “Stop!” A loud voice suddenly rang out above all the turmoil. All ei
  15. My brain randomly changes names around as the words are flowing out. I was over halfway through writing this scene when I realized I'd changed Daniel's name to "Dennis" for the whole chapter. WTF.
  16. That was my favorite line of the whole chapter when I was writing it.
  17. The next morning, the bear camp began to stir at sunrise and various groups of bears emerged from their tents after a night of heavy playtime. Gunnar and Axel’s bear pile untangled from each other, and they shifted to their human forms, scratching, and stretching in the morning sun. “Thank you all,” Daniel said to the group, “I realize now what I’ve been missing being cooped up in that stuffy house for the last hundred years with just me and Papa. “I also understand better why Gabriel
  18. Gunnar led the convoy of vehicles up to the gate of the Arnolds’ mansion in Mount Savage. He had gotten word that the reinforcements from Atikokan and General Apollo’s Infantry had both arrived this morning. Gunnar was surprised to find the gate in the wall surrounding the grounds standing open, and drove his Jeep on through, followed by the rest of the vans, SUVs, and motorcycles. The gardens around the mansion had sprung up into an army camp in a matter of a few hours. As Gunnar rolled
  19. I promise that Bill's story is not yet finished. The rest of his tale may be bittersweet, but you can be sure that he will receive the commendation that he deserves!
  20. “Ninety-eight, ninety-nine, one hundred!” Christopher shouted. “Alcyoneus, Echion, Porphyrion, Eurymedon, Pelorus, go track down those boys. Each of you capture two and bring them back here.” Five of the monsters began running down the trail in the direction where the boys had escaped, while the remaining three stood guard over the captured bears. A half-mile away, the boys were just reaching the fire tower. “Everybody start climbing to the top!” Bill said, “I have an idea.”
  21. Most of the time we're doing it on purpose so that we can allow our characters to make the wrong choices! They roll the dice that they're doing the right thing, but end up with 20/20 hindsight instead.
  22. Well, since I have a map of the area in my head, I can explain... The bears decided that it would be easier and faster to get the boys out of the woods if they followed the well-worn trails rather than trying to take them cross-country through the dense woods, and indeed, they were able to get the boys to do a double-time jog. However, the trail that they were on only led back to the van by going through the camp first. They chose speed over stealth, and that was probably their mistake.
  23. Tomorrow's chapter is going to blow your mind. You won't be disappointed!
  24. The boys were up with the sun and full of energy. Sean wasted no time telling the others that he and Bill were now best friends, and Gary gave Bill a sly wink of congratulations when no one was looking. Gary asked Bill and Sean to start a cooking fire for breakfast, and Bill sent the other buddy teams out into the surrounding forest to collect wood while he and Sean gathered smaller kindling and grass for tinder around the campsite. When Bill had his nest of dry grass ready for tinder and
  25. Gary had driven the boys about two hours away from the Academy campus to the Nathaniel Mountain Wildlife Management Area. That was the best place around for true wilderness camping, and it also had several fresh mountain springs so that they would have plenty of water for drinking and cooking. He pulled the van into a parking lot for the primitive wilderness area and was happy to see that there were no other vehicles in the lot, so he might not have to worry about their group running acros
