Stepping on Troubled Times
James Matthews commented on James Matthews's story chapter in Stepping on Troubled Times
Wow, I see this chapter has really stirred up come opinions and emotions. I think Shaun has been a little bit of a shit, but at his age, how do you process emotions in a mature way? Everything he played for has backfired. The prize he was going for was won by someone else. Emotionally and mentally that must be incredibly destabilising and critically damaging to his soul. I actually feel sorry for him a little. I know others don't. But a question for you? Ever been in love with either someone who is with another, or worse still - a straight person? As a teenager, I have; and it's emotional carnage! haha. Thanks for all the comments guys Love you all!! -
"John McEnroe, Jack!" I finally said. He looked at me like I had bashed my head. "What?" "As in, you can NOT be serious! Shaun? Wants me? You have to be joking, right?" I cried, pulling out his old phrase to emphasise how ridiculous this all sounded. "Well, if you add it all up, it makes perfect sense. Okay, so he didn't even come out and say that he liked you to me, but if you look at his behaviour, the things Shaun's said, done and lied about, it all adds up. Plus, when I think

Darkness hung over everything tonight. It spread across and inside dilapidated buildings, cast shadows through trees and left an eerie emptiness all over in the street known simply as Heidgate. The official street name signs had long since been vandalised either end, being replaced with black spray paint spelling out the words "Hells Living Room." A saturating rain splattered on the potholed road that ran between the rundown buildings as a mangy barking dog trotted down the middle in search

Foreword Some say there is beauty in everything. Yet, as I travel through life, I wonder if that's true. There is so much hurt in the world and so many things that could be more beautiful if we were not such a destructive race. We gloat each day about how far we have come as a species and what we have achieved, but seriously, should alien life look down upon our fragile blue planet, I honestly think they would be disgusted at what we have become. It is a shameful and barbaric display when

Thanks for the great comments on this chapter, I have really, REALLY enjoyed reading them! A lot of guessing going on about Shaun. Some of you are warm, some tepid. But hey, look no more, the next chapter is up Thank you for following the story guys. I'm really humbled! James

I paced my room, seething. Up and down, up and down. It really was getting to me that Shaun, my best fucking friend, could stoop so low. This was something that was going to end us as a threesome; I knew it. Gone would be those days I looked back on with fondness. But, nope, Shaun had played his last fucking card with me, and I was tired of being everyone's doormat. I heard footsteps coming up the stairs, my anger building to a crescendo. Even after knowing his little plan was gonna get fou

The drive back to the pub was painful. I felt sick, angry and possibly mad… yeah, mad, like in a mental way. I was trying to process the emotions that my body had never felt before. I needed to be with Jack, but all I was doing was heading back to the pub. But to do what? "Joe, everything will work out, yeah," Roman said, as the silence had obviously gone on too long for him. "Work out Roman, who for, me or him?" Roman didn't answer my question, knowing that he really didn't have an an

Vince's Taxi pulled up outside the pub, and I said goodbye to the guys as I got out. I thanked Vince for the ride home, and he promptly pulled away to drop the others off. I stayed outside, looking on until the car was ultimately out of view before walking through the main doors of the pub. I walked along the bar, dodging a couple of drunken young guys coming towards me with (no doubt) their fifteenth drink clutched in their hand. They went over to the slot machine and struggled to get some

Haha, Yeah I like to keep the reader on their toes... or the edge of the seat... if I can. The beauty of Joey and the gang is - I can do anything I want with them. But I promise to be gentle with them (when I can.)............ ........ But no promises haha Thanks for the comments Weinerdog. Always great to get your thoughts and reviews.

I loved this time of day - the sun starting to make its descent down behind the trees of the forest behind our clearing. A light breeze blew softly through the leaves, causing shards of sunlight to hit the stream, the edge of which I was standing around. White light hit the softly flowing water bouncing it into all the colours of the rainbow as a warm feel-good feeling came over me. The warmness of the air that washed all around me leads me to close my eyes, letting the sounds of pearly flo

"Oh, you're up," said Mum as I patted into the bar. Yawning, I rubbed my eyes and went and sat on one of the stools, struggling to keep my eyes open. "Would you like a cup of tea?" "Yes, please," I replied, gently swaying back and forward. "Bad sleep?" she asked, taking two cups out of the dishwasher and placing one under the machine dispenser. "No, it was fine; I was asleep by eleven. It's just one of those mornings where I can't seem to wake up." "What time is Jack getting

"I think you should leave!" Dean said, abruptly "Dean, where are your manners? Behave yourself." Sarah said, scolding him. "Yeah, Dean, Joey is your friend; stop being so silly," Vince added. "Silly…you think this is silly Dad, He's just pretty much admitted he's a fag!" "Dean! I will not have that word used in this house. Tell him, Vince." "Your mother is right, Dean. It’s a nasty word. Please don't refer to gay people as fags." "I'm not gay," I blurted out, trying

Shaun and I strolled onto the school football pitch, getting ready to watch Dean play a round of five aside with other guys from our year. Having got over my week-long throat infection, it was my first day back at school, and I was glad to be there for once. The revelation Jack made as I laid listening to him on my bed was still at the back of my mind, slowly chewing away at me. In truth, I had been avoiding him ever since. Not because I was disgusted with what he had revealed but rather be

I watched on as Jack took his trousers off, his legs in the same condition as the rest of him. His shins were cut in places, from what I imagined were the impact marks from his father's boot, fist or belt. "You know, Maddy said to me she was afraid your Dad had started again, but it's never really stopped, has it, Jack? It's just up until recently, he's avoided your face," I remarked, going from bruise to bruise on his legs with my eyes. He quickly pulled on the sweat-pants I gave him, eage

I'm sorry to hear this about your son, that's awful. The sad truth is this goes on all the time. I don't have children so maybe i'm not the best to comment on parenting, however you read so much in the news about how parents can commit such evil abuse to the very person they created, it's sickening and the sad thing is, some kids don't know any different, and some even go on to be killed by thei parents. The truth is some people just should not procreate, simple. Many thanks for your views and for sharing your story. James

"Your Uncle!" I shrieked. "Shh, keep your voice down, yeah my Uncle…fucked up, I know." "You're seriously telling me James raped you? When…I mean, why didn't you ever tell anyone?" "Oh yeah, Joey, really… So hey Mum, Dad, by the way, I hate to break up the family, but I think you should know, my Uncle James is screwing me, surprise!" "Yeah, okay, I'm an idiot; I guess it wasn't that easy. Hey, I'm really sorry. So…so how long did it go on for?" "He was staying with us fo

I walked into school depressed; it was the way I always felt on the first day back. Not only that, my first lesson was Mathematics, a subject that I loathed. I wandered towards my locker and placed my books for the day inside. My next task was to try and find Jack; I really wanted to speak to him, to see he was okay. I had around thirty minutes until I was due for roll call, so I had time to find him…that's if I could. Walking down the corridor, I caught up with Maddy, who was a friend of J
