Clarity By morning the storm had passed. The sun had returned to warm the world with its bright yellow rays. Sam was the last to get up. When he found his companions, they were in the kitchen. Fred was finishing a piece of toast. Tom was on the phone with his sister. Fred had already called the car rental company. Someone would be coming for the car within the hour. As Sam helped himself to some coffee and a piece of toast he listened to Tom's side of the conversation. "I'll be there in a

Adventures in the Dark They got into Tom's car and were soon navigating the muddy partially washed out streets. He lived no more than two miles away but they had to go so slowly that it seemed like they were traveling to another world. As they made their slow journey lightning struck something in the distance and the streetlights went dark. Tom sighed, "I bet it got the house lines too." He was right. At the end of a long driveway Tom's house stood in darkness and the garage door refused

Scent of Something New As they walked down the leaf-littered sidewalk they realized that most of the businesses were closed. The diner had closed an hour ago. The barbershop was dark. Sally's perfumes had a light on but there was a closed sign on the door. They almost passed it by when Sam saw some movement inside. Someone was still restocking the merchandise. Sam knocked on the door and soon two people emerged. Sally opened the door. She looked exactly like the fairy on the perfume bottle.

Return to Green Hollow It was a Thursday in late October and Sam was checking his email by his desk. There were a few work related items that he took careful note of. There was also a letter from his niece announcing that she would be a fairy for Halloween. Sam smiled thinking about the inevitable mad dash to put together a costume. Just as he was logging out of the account his supervisor rushed in. The company with the pornographic library was having another problem. He and Fred were invit

Breakthrough Sam's dreaming mind took him back to a familiar place. He was in the giant shower again. This time he was seeing the scene from his own point of view. Echoes of his smallest movements bounced off the walls making him feel small and exposed. He reached for the valve and turned on the water. The warm water helped him relax. As he reached for the soap he realized that he was not alone. Tom was showering right next to him. As he admired his companion's physique the water turned pin

The Fairy and the Dust Sam watched the graceful upper body emerge from under the rack. First came a narrow waistline then slim but strong looking arms and finally suspiciously broad shoulders. The features were somehow highlighted a soft looking yellow sweater. Sam's admiration turned to shock when the object of his new found affection turned around. What he assumed was a woman now revealed a flat chest and a five o'clock shadow. "Oh! I'm sorry," Sam quickly corrected himself, "I couldn't r

The Quest Friday went as planned. The server was repaired completely before noon and Fred and Sam went their separate ways. Fred went, home happy to return to his normal routine while Sam embarked on his journey to Green Hollow. As he drove down the ever-narrowing streets his thoughts drifted between road maps and nightmares. Like the haze that hung over the fall day, the images from the previous day and night clung to his memory. He could not understand why the video had affected him to su

Doubts and Nightmares As Sam closed the door his mind worked feverishly, questioning Fred's reason for patting him on the back. It took Sam a moment to remember how much Fred had been in love with his last girlfriend. Sam breathed a sigh of relief. Fred motives were simple. He liked to joke around while keeping an eye out for women. Now Sam began to question his own feelings. Had he enjoyed the pat on the back too much? He tried to remember. Then his mind turned to the video that had starte

Embarrassment Sam checked into the hotel close to noon after being stuck in freakishly bad traffic for a few hours. As he was depositing his suitcase in the room he heard movement behind the wall. When he came out he saw Fred exiting the next room. They went to lunch together and then went to check on the ailing computers. The head of the small company greeted them with a look of anxiety. He explained that their IT person had suddenly quit. When the problems started there was no one to fix

Fairy Dust Travel Plans "So where you stayin'?" asked Fred perching on the corner of Sam's desk. "That bigish hotel called Sunshine or something," answered Sam. "Oh, I think I'm in the same one," said Fred. They were planning an unexpected road trip. Their company had sold a large computer system to another company. A month after installation the computers were crashing. Their supervisor had informed Sam and Fred that they would be sent to fix it the next day. They found out later t

Resolutions Sam and Tom walked into Sally's shop feeling relaxed and happy. That changed when they saw the look of mixed anger and anxiety on her face. Fred did not seem happy either. "Where were you two?" demanded Sally. "We were at my place," answered Tom, "Why? What happened?" "I called the shop at 6:40 and no one answered. Then I called your house. I must have called five or six times and no one answered." "I called the hotel and your cell number," added Fred. "I wasn't in the

Firelight They finally arrived at Tom's home. Unlike Sam's first visit this one did not involve running in the rain. The power was on and they were able to park in the garage. Tom led Sam to the living room and offered him a drink. Sam gladly accepted and sat down comfortably on the couch. He felt somewhat exposed in the light and made a point to look away from his host. His eyes scanned the room. It was perfectly neat. Meanwhile Tom went to the fireplace and began preparing for the marshma

In the Dark By six thirty the customers had sopped coming. It was dark, cold, and snowing outside. Tom had just finished some bookkeeping. Sam was standing in front of one of the store's giant display windows watching the snow cover everything. He was replaying the events of the last few days in his mind. He kept thinking about Mark and Tom. Even if it did not last between them there was no way Sam could take the place of someone that big and muscular. He considered starting an exercise r

Careful Dancing Sam and Fred checked into the town's one small hotel, later that morning. They got the only small cramped room available and were grateful for it. The hotel was full of skiers and snowboarders all of who were waiting for a storm that was on its way. It was a freak event that even the weatherman had not seen coming until late the previous night. Now the forecast said that it would come in two days. To Sam it felt like it was bearing down on him ready to bury him in frigid s

Civilization By eleven the two friends were packed and ready to go. Fred started up the car and turned on the heater. It coughed up a gust of cold air. He switched it off. "Dam! This sucks!" he complained. "Tell me about it! Another shitty New Years Eve and this time in the snow!" added Sam, "If it wasn't for you I would never have come here." "So its my fault now!" "No, that's not what I said." "Well let me tell you something. If you hadn't been checking out pretty boy we wouldn't

In the Wild With their spirits dampened Sam and Fred went back to the car. They tried not to show it but each was disappointed. A cool breeze blew down the street and suddenly Green Hollow seemed less inviting. Without saying anything Fred pulled a map out of the glove compartment. After a short examination he put down the map and started the car. Farther down the street they noticed that the town's one hotel had reopened. Neither of them said anything. At that moment both of them wanted

Introductions As they finished eating Fred casually suggested that they take a walk around town before moving on to the campground. "Yeah, sounds good. It'd be nice to see what's new around here," answered Sam just as casually. They paid for their lunch and began walking up the little street. There were more people milling around than on their last visit. A shop window which had been boarded up now proudly announced the grand opening of Green Hollow Gym. It was across the street from Sa

Travel Two days after Christmas Sam and Fred were packing camping equipment into Fred's SUV. He had discovered that Green Hollow had some nice campgrounds. If the mild weather kept up they would have an excuse to stay in town for several days. They were both secretly looking for reasons to prolong the trip. "I think that's it," said Fred as he went through a mental checklist of camping supplies. "Alright, let's hit the road," said Sam with a big smile. Fred backed the SUV out of his dr

Time Off Sam yawned and stretched as he thought about his upcoming vacation. For some reason business always seemed to slow down right before Christmas. The lull usually lasted until early February. The boss was letting him have a week and a half off immediately after Christmas. It was Christmas Eve and the day was already half gone. Sam was about to leave for his lunch break when Fred came up to his desk with a huge smile on his face. "Guess who's off till the third?" he asked beaming.

This is a sequel to “Fairy Dust” and will probably make more sense if you read the first story first. Two computer geeks have too much time on their hands. They decide to take a road trip, which takes them back to Green Hollow. On their last trip to the small town they had met a brother and sister. Now they return hoping to spend some time with the good-looking siblings. As before, things do not go as planned.

What Harriet did not Get for Christmas
jfalkon posted new chapter in What Harriet did not Get for Christmas
Harriet sat by the window looking at the snow-covered landscape as she warmed her hands over a cup of coffee. It was a crisp winter day, perfect as a post card. A fire was crackling in the fireplace. Harriet’s husband Tom sat in front of it happily reading a book. The Christmas tree glittered and glowed and promised gifts. Harriet had every reason to be happy but at the moment she was mourning her grandchildren. Harriet had three children. Her oldest, Suzan had given her one granddaughter. Th -

Jay moved his car up a few inches and then resumed his search of the airwaves. He was stuck in the three-hour purgatory known as rush hour. Like all the other victims of the trans-county commute he was resigned to his fate. The radio stations knew this and crammed as many commercials as possible into their broadcasts. The disc jockeys, aware of their captive audience, tried their hands at hosting talk shows. There was no music to sooth the savage beasts. It was not necessary. All the savages wer
