It’s absolutely okay to hate her. 🙂↕️

Oh don’t worry. Cal is gonna get into a lot.

“TILT your head up just a little more, please, Sir, and then look just a little more left. Perfect. There we go.” The camera guy snaps the photo. The flash is white hot. “Wait, I think you blinked.” “Fuck,” I mutter. I’m sweating like a whore in church. My senior orientation decided to land on the hottest day of the year. A record ninety-eight degrees, and I’m here wearing the newly issued school uniform. After a unanimous decision by the school board, we’ve become a full-fledged uniform sc

Calvin Kildare is lonely and lost. It seems that everyone around him is in love and has a direction for their life. With senior year starting, he’s never felt so out of place. When the guy he’s had a small crush on starts paying him attention, he can’t help but think he’ll be the one for him. However, things are never that easy, and Calvin finds himself having to navigate situations that are bound to test his limits.

The courtroom scene/chapter was one of my favorites to write. It was in my head the moment I thought of the story so writing it was a thrill for myself!

Colorado may or may not be a little Easter egg for something in the future 🤷🏽♂️

Four months later IT was December seventeenth, twenty-twenty two. That was the day my parents died. The night that changed everything. Today is December seventeenth, twenty-twenty-three. One year later. It’s winter break from school. Senior year started with simplicity. I know what you’re thinking, what you’re asking. What happened to Victor? Well, let’s back it up a bit. I didn’t leave North Carolina for good until the day after my hearing. We all celebrated at this local

I barely slept. My eyes burn when I flip on the bathroom light. Cold water on my face sends a shock down my spine. I was tossing and turning all night, thinking about every possible scenario of today. There aren’t that many outcomes to begin with, but I kept pondering the worst ones. The one that keeps me here in North Carolina. And if that happens, what if they move me from Karen’s? I splash more water on my face and rub my eyes until they hurt. “Good mornin’, Sweetie,” Karen says as I en

“COFFEE?” Karen slides a cup towards me at the kitchen table. “Thought you’d never ask,” I say, taking the cup. It’s hot to the touch. “You’ve got a long day ahead of you,” she says, “a little caffeine won’t hurt.” Long day for sure. It’s Monday, and my review hearing is on Wednesday. For the past month, I’ve been meeting Carla weekly and trying to prepare. But today is a little different. I’ve met my court counselor and attorney for the criminal charges I picked up for beating V

IT’S warm. The air is still. Sun scorches my skin. A few birds dip and fly around each other. My head hurts. My neck is still a little sore, and my hands are bruised all over. Every movement causes me to wince. On the bright side, I’ve stopped crying. There’s no more tears left in my body. “Jonah.” I turn my head. It’s the nurse. Erica. “Hey,” I mutter. “You okay?” she asks. She’s halfway out the door, shielding her eyes from the sun. “I said your name like, four times.”

WILL’S head is on my lap. I run my fingers through his hair. Every day since the party, it has been like walking on eggshells. Everything could collapse at once. Each moment has to be savored. All day is an anxious waiting game to see what happens to me. To us. He shifts, looks up at me. “I’m sorry,” he whispers. I frown. “What?” “I’m sorry,” he repeats. “Will, every day since then, you’ve said you’re sorry, and every single time I tell you it’s okay. It’s not your fault. I’

MY hands are in my hair as I sit on the edge of my bed. Victor’s face keeps replaying in my mind. Will told me to wait while he makes sure he leaves. It’s been a while, and he has not come back. The party continues to vibrate the house so much that I feel like the pictures are going to start coming off the walls. I need to find Will. I go into the hallway, and immediately, I’m surrounded by people. They’re everywhere. Leaning against walls. In the open bedrooms. Vape smoke fills the

IT'S been three weeks since Will and I became boyfriends. Boyfriends. The word still dances on my tongue each time I say it. It’s such a full word. The way you say it fills your mouth. A two-syllable word that tastes good every single time. But it’s been three weeks, and things have been good. I mean, really good. The kind of good that made my social workers, both my New York one and North Carolina one, breathe a sigh of relief because they know they can worry about me less if I’m happy. Th

SUMMER break was never my favorite before I met James. I was a lonely kid whose summers were spent going to various camps because my parents still worked. They had me try all sorts of camps. Soccer camp, but I cried every day before drop off. A science camp that was pretty cool but had a bunch of mean boys. A nature camp where I got severely ill. Art camp was where I enjoyed myself. That was the only camp I enjoyed. It’s whatever now. However, the summer after I met James changed my a
