    Chapter 3: Josiah

Suddenly, the way Momma tightened my tie feels too tight. I pry my fingers into my collar and pull, tryin’ to loosen it up. “C’mon, c’mon,” I mutter. There’s a boom of muffled thunder. The music is loud enough to combat it. “What’re you doin’?” Roger asks, coming up behind me from the urinal. He turns the water on and lets soap fall onto his open palm. I’ve been watchin’ his hands more. The calluses. Every little line. How he uses them. “This is too—” I pull again “—tight.” It loosens
  2. Love how you wrote this. Well done. 10/10.
  3. I know that’s right
  4. I’m rooting for these two. And Beth. Love her.
  5. LEONARD “Okay, so I’m thinking that this will be like, the film photobooth, and then down there a bit will be the regular, digital camera one. Kenny will man that one,” I say to the couple of freshman student government kids. There’s something in the water, but they look smaller. The sort of nod and wander off. I’ve been at the school gym for the past three hours, going back and forth from inside and outside, doing last-minute setup for tonight's dance. It’s hot as hell, even for late

Welcome to Highland Park, Texas. Where every teenager is expected to know exactly who they're supposed to become. Josiah Crawley, Christian Berkeley, Elijah Payne, and Leonard Sanchez share little in common. One is a golden boy. One is new in town. One grew up with strict rules. One is known to break them. On the night of homecoming, a powerful storm brings the four of them together for the first time. But when they witness a horrible accident, they become bound by guilt, grief, and a search for answers.
  7. CHRISTIAN There’s a spot in the library that is mine. It is so deeply mine that I really do think people know to stay away. It’s the corner, behind some shelves but next to a window. It looks over part of the campus and neighboring houses. It’s very calming, and no one bothers me. I’m halfway through my apple when my phone dings with a message from SmartSchool, our campus app that has everything about the school along with our grades. Mr. Jensen has posted the Unit 2 test scores. Oh s
  8. Poor Julian can’t catch a break😂he needs a vacation.
  9. Last year during spring break, Zara and I went to San Diego together. Her mom took us, and everything about it was amazing. But, being the idiots we can be, we would go on shady dating apps, lie about our age, and find parties to go to. We did this about every night of the trip, and during that time, both discovered a liquor we both enjoyed. Malibu. A rum. Cheap and easy, and it went down like candy. Bring it all to the present day, and we still find ourselves buying it from broke dude
  10. This was a great story. Lots of emotions and quite a roller coaster, but ended in a satisfying way.
  11. “Mannnn, you’re really gaining traction on Harrington Now,” Keanu says. He’s leaning against the ice cream counter, his back to the customer line. “People don’t know how to react. LOL.” It’s oddly hot today, and the line had been out the door not too long ago. The three of us are finally catching a moment of dead time. I give it a few more minutes before the masses return. Keanu’s rundown of Monday’s events has been nonstop since it happened. He’s been glued to the stupid gossip site l
  12. Yes! I had a significant brain blockage with that one but hopefully soon
  13. The American high school cafeteria is one hell of a place. Depicted in hundreds of shows and movies, and generally shown to be dramatic. But after seeing it up close and personal, the media is quite accurate. Dozens of hormonal teenagers in various groups talking loudly, sweating, chewing, and touching. It should have its own segment on Animal Planet. Some days, I find myself staring at everything and everyone, wondering how the hell I ended up here. Well, it’s obvious how I ended up here.
  14. Cooper and Bryan are not friends and haven't been in years. There's been a secret between them that caused them to drift apart, but when the two of them are forced to work together, their old wounds reopen. This time, it brings more drama than ever. Can the two of them face it and reconnect or will the obstacles be the very thing that keeps them from doing so?
  15. if Dean is hurt, I will riot!

    losers club!!
  20. SO, here’s the thing. And sure, I’m sure the universe or really just my sister, is looking over my shoulder wondering if I had texted the cute waiter from the restaurant. And the answer is…no. No, I haven’t. I’ve opened up a message, typed something out, and then realized I sound psychotic. But I’ve tried to start a message that makes me seem cool, seem desirable, and not like a total loser. Unfortunately, what ends up happening is a message like, “Hey, help me hide a body?” Psychotic!
