Not recognizing that I could even consider loving a boy at the age of 15 in 1960, I never had to "hide," because there was nothing to hide from. Fortunately, today it doesn't appear to be quite the issue.

Another chapter that leaves me envious. 😢

Libby, I'm late on the scene, but I love the way you write. Since you are a woman, I don't know if you have an answer, but as a late blooming bisexual with fond memories of my youth and one boy in particular, I wonder if the interaction between your characters is real. I remember my first meeting with the young lady that later became my wife, and I can't remember the kind of reaction you describe in this chapter, even though it might qualify as "love at first sight." Your story leaves me feeling very envious (and confused).

Part I - Christmas break Since the episode at the pool, Dan's and Sam's reputations had spread around the school. More importantly, Randy's attitude had changed as had those of his two closest friends. They didn't become best buddies with Dan and Sam, but their friendship circles did begin to overlap, and it wasn't unusual to see them eating lunch together in the school cafeteria. In fact, it was Sam and Dan that encouraged Randy to try out for the Christmas play that was presented by the e

@Summerabbacat and @Story Reader, your comments and those of others bring me to tears. Since the father figures in my stories portray me as I wish I had been, I have to say that my son was born in 1976, so he would have turned 14 in 1990. My evolution and attitudes didn't really start until about 1993 or 1995, maybe even later. As much as I loved Brian, and as badly as I wanted a son, I don't know how I would have reacted had he lived and identified as gay at age 14. Having to admit that HURTS LIKE HELL! PS. I am the Mr. Whitington in this story, in case that isn't obvious to everyone.

All 3 of my stories have similarities. BY the time The Root Beer Boys is posted, you will all think I am a broken record. yadda, yadda, yadda.

"Jason? Are you awake?" Alex whispered as he leaned over the bed. "No, silly. I'm fast asleep and can't hear a word you're saying," Jason answered as he rolled over onto his back. "What time is it?" "It's about 2:30. You still tired, or do you wanna get up?" "What's to get up for?" "Nothin'. You wanna strip and get under the covers?" "Strip how far?" Jason responded with an evil grin. "Is the door shut?" "Nope. Uncle Pop said to leave it open a crack. But he

Aren't we pathetic? The moral fiber as a whole in this country has gone right down the tubes. I have little to no respect for either party.
-
Yes, @Summerabbacat, you drew the right conclusion to my "invitation." And yes, we Americans have a very puritanical attitude towards anything having to do with the naked human body. I wish we could be as enlightened as many other countries. I recently found a journal my daughter kept in her high school years (she's now 53). It wasn't a diary, and I wasn't snooping, but I learned the truth of what you just said. What a surprise! 🙃😇

@Jjeffalch You really know how to make a man cry! Thank you.

@Dan South, I just wasn't sure how readers would react. Not having grown up gay, and only recently (the past two years) understanding my own interest in oral sex with a man, I thought maybe I was wrong. But the comments and reactions so far show me that my concerns were misplaced. As I said, I'm still learning. Thanks to all for your "followship" and comments.

Part I - Can we talk? When supper was ready, Mr. Russell volunteered to tell the boys. Prior to today, he might have sent Nancy. But things were changing, and he wasn't at all sure what would be found behind Sam's bedroom door. The bedrooms all had locks on the doors, but the Russell's had always stressed that they never be used. A door was for privacy, and locks weren't necessary. The temptation to open the door while he knocked was great indeed, but he forced himself to abide by his

Or maybe not. . . All will be revealed in Chapter 13.

Things just continued to get better as the holidays drew nearer. Mitchell and Tammy were seeing a lot of each other, and Alex and Jason spent the weekends together, almost always at our house. The boys had their little spats, just as all kids their age do. But the amount of love that was being shared among us was almost palpable. Mitchell became more and more comfortable with his relationship with the boyfriends, and the boyfriends grew closer and closer together. It was interesting as well as e

I am really enjoying this story. A slow, smoldering romance, taking time to blossom to fruition. A really "feel good" story. I hope my dreams and expectations aren't shattered.

Thank you @Mancunian

egads, @Badforlad and @njfjm1, I only posted chapter 10 a few minutes ago, Apparently it skipped the moderation queue and went straight to publishing. You guys must be speed readers! I just noticed there other "reactions." What a honor it is to see how much interest this story has generated, Thanks you ALL!

Saturday was a gorgeous day in more ways than one. To begin with, the weather was superb, one of those late fall North Texas days with very few clouds and temperatures high enough for swimming. It was also a great day emotionally, and a fabulous day for relationships. We started the morning with breakfast in our swimming suits out by the pool. We had no sooner finished with our cereal and toast than Alex showed up in his trunks. As soon as Mitchell got to the edge of the pool, I knew things

I did a quick search on Fr. Spong, and while I appreciate his stance on the LGBT, et.al., I do not understand, nor do I accept "and who later called on them to reject sacrosanct ideas like Jesus' virgin birth and the existence of heaven and hell." For a Christian to reject those two tenants of our faith would be to deny the entire New Testament and declare Christ's death on the cross meaningless. Just saying. . .

@drsawzall, I agree with you completely. I have been active in my faith for many years, but I have had to get beyond the distorted view of so many clergy, many of whom are more interested in the "Theology" of their denomination than the Scriptures that are supposed to guide our lives. I can understand why some folks are disillusioned by "organized religion." I was raised in the Methodist church, "grew up in the Lutheran church, and gravitated to the Episcopal church. Now, I have no church home and am considering trying a "Bible Fellowship" church in hopes of avoiding "Theology."

I believe that God's grace and forgiveness is offered even to the likes of Fr. Lechner. But if the man fails to admit his guilt and repent, I hope there is a special place in Hell for him. No, I am not Catholic. “You led me into temptation, boy. You are a grave sinner, an envoy of the Evil! You are a cursed boy!” May God have mercy on this man's soul, because he would certainly never get it from me.

Part I - After the "fight" The boys slept late the next morning which gave the Whittington's time to call the Russell's and tell them about what they had seen as they left their son's room the night before. The four adults weren't overly concerned, but they agreed that Dan and Sam should spend Saturday night at Sam's house which would give the Russell's an opportunity to observe the boys and reach their own conclusions. When they awoke, Dan had a splitting headache, most definitely a r

All I can say to these reactions is WOW! and thank you. Well, after some thought, I guess I do have more to say. I certainly never expected to trigger such thoughtful and in-depth comments to my story. I feel truly honored by them. And I agree with @Summerabbacat that too many people pick and choose which scriptures to hide behind to cover their own "sensitivities." Paul spoke against fornication in the same verse as homosexuality, but people conveniently ignore that. And fortunately, we all live under God's Grace (New Testament), not His condemnation (Old Testament). And Jesus, who had nothing to say about homosexuality told us that to divorce and remarry was to commit adultery. But enough preaching for today. Let's not go down that rabbit hole, with one last comment. The organist at the Episcopal church where I used to worship was gay and married to a priest; and this was common knowledge among the congregation. Sorry for sharing the pain, but pain shared is pain diminished.
