Monday came way too soon. Bryan and Caleb got up and made their way to the table. Diego was already awake making breakfast. Steve had already left for work, leaving Diego to drop the boys off on his way to the restaurant. Nobody spoke. Though Caleb was a morning person, he didn't want to get caught in the crossfire of his brother and father. “Am I still grounded?” Bryan asked, putting his bowl in the sink. “No,” Diego said, pouring himself a second cup of coffee. “Why?” “I was won

That's pretty apt. Lol

Teenagers often don't do the right thing because they're unaware of what the right thing really is. They feel they're adult enough to handle anything.
-
Great observations. I can't comment on a lot of this without giving stuff away, but Bryan is in a sticky situation that could have a lot of negative consequences for himself and others.
-
Name a teenager who isn't messed up? I know I've never met one, and that's why Bryan is an interesting character.

I wanted to show the contrast and conflict within Bryan. He can tell his biological father to "fuck off" but can't tell the boy he loves, whom he's known for ages, "I'm in love with you." There's a lot of subtext that can be read into that, and wanted the readers to sort that out.

I'm sure there are programs that will track people's IP address, which is why swatting on Twitch happens. At this point, Calvin is just messaging and not letting up. Bryan and Kenny's situation will be explored more soon, too. I'm trying to add humor to this story in many ways, so I'm glad you enjoyed Bryan going after Calvin, verbally.

Sleeping was fitful at best for everyone. Diego and Steve stayed up discussing options. Steve, who still wanted to move in, questioned whether or not the time was right, given all the upheaval the kids had experienced. Diego, who understood Steve's point, questioned if that was the real reason for his boyfriend's trepidations. Meanwhile, Caleb replayed the funeral over and over again, wondering how it would've gone had he been allowed to talk to his biological father. Would he get the answers he

What Calvin wants will be made clear sooner than later. I finished Chapter 14 last night. I have no idea how long this story will be. I just let the story tell itself.

This comment starts off rather dark! Lol I will say that this isn't that kind of story. I've written a lot of really, really, really dark shit on Nifty, but this is intentionally not that kind of story. Lol Bryan has jokes, which is meant to break the tension and to show his deflection through humor. Abandoned people go through the stages of grief, and some people get stuck in some of those stages till they can work it out, so I'm not entirely sure he's masking his feelings so much as unable to move on from the stage he's on, but a very valid point of view, nonetheless. And nobody should ever trust Calvin. As for the adoption paperwork....

The future has yet to be written, but you can bet, that this will be getting rough.

We'll just have to wait and see....

Whenever I read the scene with Steve getting out of the car to confront Calvin, I keep thinking their in a tiny, compact car, so when Steve steps out it is both comical and intimidating. Lol I imagine he'd be a jacked NBA center, as far as his mass is concerned. As for Calvin's motivations...you'll just have to wait and see....

Steve is an old, favorite character of mine that was very under used in my previous writings, so I'm glad I could use him here. Facebook is an evil company, so your feelings are quite justified.

“Get in the car!” Diego barked. “We're leaving right now! !Vamanos¡” Bryan couldn't believe what was going on. One moment they were in the graveyard, the next moment, they were running from his birth father. Caleb was asking a million questions, which was frustrating their dad. Bryan on the other hand didn't know what to think. The man in the graveyard looked nothing like the man he remembered. Yes, it had been nearly a decade, but Bryan assumed he'd always know what Calvin would look like.

Everything you've mentioned about where Calvin has been and him showing up will be addressed, of course; however, as far as his description, it's actually a passive-aggressive description of the irl inspiration for Calvin, who is rather (and inappropriately) vain, as the real "Calvin" is balding but not as bad as the fictitious one. It's very much another slap in the face this story is giving.

Your assessment of the boys emotional states at the funeral and handling Donna's death is pretty spot on. Everyone processes loss and grief differently, including an unwillingness to acknowledge it. As for Calvin's motives...that will be seen soon enough, I think.
-
All of this will be addressed at some point, especially Calvin's return.

I do like a good cliffhanger; just haven't had an opportunity in this story till now.

There was a door connecting the two rooms, which Diego left open until bedtime. After dinner at a local restaurant, Steve and Diego hung out with the boys. Unable to find any place to go and the satellite not working, they got some cards and played rummy. When it was time for bed, Diego laid down next to Caleb and held his son. “Tomorrow is going to be tough,” he said to his sons. “It's okay to feel whatever you want, but if you get too overwhelmed, please tell me or Steve, and we'll l

It is always darkest before the dawn...or this could just be the calm before the storm....

As Shakespeare had his fools who spoke the truth, I like having a child who isn't afraid to see things as they are and speak their mind as such. Caleb is one example of the kind but unfiltered youth I write. Where the shaders of adulthood can eventually blind people, Caleb's perspective is still fresh and open. He hasn't been corrupted by hate or prejudice, and what little he has experienced has been countered by his family, their love and support.

I've written a lot of dramas in my life and especially recently, so I wanted to explore some comedic aspects that I find greatly amusing like self-referential meta humor. An American TV show, Boston Legal, is a great inspiration for that kind of humor, where the show occasionally broke the fourth wall or added nodding jokes about the actual show, like changes to their airing dates. Several of these can be found on YouTube and they've always made me laugh, despite the serious subject matter in the show. I didn't want to do fourth wall breaks, like Deadpool, since that can be jarring with a third party narrator, so little references and nods to the story itself has been greatly amusing. I also like self-deprecating humor, so poking fun at myself and my writing tropes/style has been good too.
