That's such a sweet memory 🥰 nice to know I could elicite that.

I have some more planned, covering the void beasts for example

We need to wait and see.

Months later, Thokk sat in the library reading by the light of a luminescent moss lamp. The silence was soothing, as was the absence of almost all scents. In that regard, the journey back beneath the mountain had taken its toll on him: the selected women and a few men who had joined them seemed to do nothing but chatter the whole time. Most of them also seemed unable to grasp how important hygiene was and refused to wash more than once a week. But he was back home. Familiar food, bathhouses

excerpts from: The World We Live In. An Introductory Text for Younger Students. by Karl-Friedrich of Bellinghill, Scholar of the Wilderness edited and expanded by Samuel Johannsohn Creation It is truly fascinating to see how humans have no creation story for the world. In the oldest records, stories are found in which the Sun and Moon sprang from the Void and together begot the Earth, or stories in which the Void wept a tear from which the Earth arose. Rather, it is the

To quote a statement from the sequel: "This farm has more children than responsible adults." Interpret that how you want Yes. Last time Dante and Alice were intimate was before the incident in Hannah/February, not it's Inara/September. Absolute, for both. Maybe there's hope? But now he heard it, plain and clear, and maybe, hopefully, it trickles into is thick skull that there might be something to it...

A pleasantly cool, if humid, breeze blew in through the open window and Dante looked up. It was still raining outside, but the thunderstorm, including the cloudburst, had passed. Perhaps now the blazing heat of summer was giving way to the gentler beginnings of autumn. Voices and footsteps approached and Dante set about arranging the cutlery. The dining room was now finished, but since there was not yet a kneeling table for the slaves, Dante and Henry were allowed to join them at the table;

You remember correctly. Remy can't be freed. And he's not someone who would enjoy all the responsibilities and burdens and "freedoms" of being a freedman. On that note, when I wrote this chapter originally, I was debating with myself whether or not to show Remy at all. It takes places 9 months after Remy's story ends and given a certain point or two in his story, it's somewhat a "spoiler" showing he survives his own story... Yes, isn't it? Both women don't know Dante and still try to predict the future. But at least it shows Danica's human side.

That's nice to hear. We will and they will

Danica glanced over the rim of her coffee cup into the garden of Harlaney House. Out here on the terrace, shaded and surrounded by the scent of flowers, it was much more bearable than in Denser's Port, despite the very same temperature. "Are you listening to me at all?" "Of course, Ellen." Danica tilted her head in her direction. "And I agree, Lillian's idea is... difficult." "To put it mildly," Ellen grumbled, sipping her iced tea. This time Danica nodded more clearly and se

That's a very important question. We might get an answer to it next chapter. Next to having grown into the shamanic mindset of women playing an important role in his professional life (which is not even a must, but his master is a women-selectionist shaman), this might be a point. We will see more on that next chapter. Orcs are considered to not be children anymore at 16, but only at 24 they are counted as proper adults. Their lifespan is maybe a bit longer than for the humans. They are aging slower, though, as soon as they are fully grown.
-
That's exactly the question arising here.

I'm an early bird but today I got woken up at 5am why the street construction crew moving their equipment around so they can start punctually at 7:30am... not amused. The question is, is Thokk catching on to this on his own? Or did Gash stop the group because he saw something as well in those two humans and wanted to get a closer look? Or was it an incident? Might Thokk be the one being late to the party in general? (I imagine him to be around 20)
-
He grew up with the mindset that he, as shaman, needs to be completely attuned to human women. Being attracted to men is far from being a crime in this world, but it completely contradicts what he believes in about his profession (and therefore himself).
-
Something—or someone—jolted Thokk from his restless and already light sleep. He had been mulling over Gash and Khartikk’s conversation for a long time and was now extremely reluctant to get up. But the overzealous novice of the second priest in the traveling party knew no mercy: “Time to rise! Time to rise and shine! To shine brightly like our Mother’s flaming sword!” He said more, in an artificially high-pitched sing-song that hurt Thokk’s ears, but Thokk already knew the sermon. Tire

Let's build a Bed of Hay for Tonight
Celian commented on Celian's story chapter in Let's build a Bed of Hay for Tonight
Totally second this but I don't think Dante has reached the spot where he actually sees this problem. I would agree and say they are not. I would also like to say they are getting there, but I guess the next chapter will be both a step forward and a small step back. They are/were going through a lot, in not that much of time, and after the blow up they need to decompress, start to heal... -
"I still think that's too few," Eugene explained, patting the pile of tile packages in front of the house with a grim face. Dante could only shrug. He had helped the slave tile the bathroom for himself and Henry, and was now helping him with Maggie's future bathroom, but that kind of calculation eluded his meager mathematical training. And on top of that, he lacked the experience Eugene had several decades of. The corners of Eugene's mouth curved downward as he looked at Dante, then he

and here I thought I could get back into your good grace 😭 Seems like a probability. Sawyer is smarter than he seems. Or at least on an emotional level.

The summer heat might spoil one's appetite, but the pleasant coolness of the slaves' basement counteracted it to the extent that they ate properly anyway. Accordingly, Sawyer leaned back in his chair after dinner, full and content, while Greg and Dennis cleared the table. Well, maybe not quite so content. Dante was no longer in the house and Tom came here practically only to sleep. Soon Tom wouldn't be here either. He hadn't said it, but Sawyer wasn't stupid, Tom would be moving in with Mat

@drsawzall and @RainbowPhoenixWI now I will add a wake-up moment just for you two

Thokk had his arms crossed over his chest, his brow furrowed, and was glaring sullenly at the women who had gathered for the tithe selection. He had advanced so far in his studies that he had been allowed to accompany his master on the journey, but his enthusiasm had long since faded. He hated the surface. The sun burned his skin if he wasn’t careful and dried it out; the healthy light green had given way to a dull gray-green. His fur-stripe was dirty and smelly. There was mud everywhere. I

In a world, where humans and orcs are forced to live in symbiosis, the shaman’s apprentice Thokk is deeply conflicted. On the one hand, he recognizes the need for his people’s survival; on the other, he despises humans for their weaknesses. That is, until he meets Henry...

Relentless, the River of Time Carries Us All
Celian commented on Celian's story chapter in Relentless, the River of Time Carries Us All
I'm afraid he's heading into/is already in a mental space where once again no one cares about him further than what duties he fulfills. Everyone wants something or is ignoring him. Yes, that's a big point in life. And living on a farm, where not even neighbour's kids are close around, makes it not exactly easier. He has no opportunities to even meet someone his age. It's a pretty busy time for everyone, that for sure. Absolutely, a powder keg with a burning fuse. He and Dante manouvered themselves into some stalemate, where every movement causes just more venom to be spewn... Alice's commentary wasn't a smart move, though maybe Frank is just in this "moment" of letting of all the accumulated stress and frustration etc out. Meaning, he might have gone off on her anyway, or a day later or the like. In his eyes, he's free of his mask, but still in chains, as long as he has this official "retarded" stamp on him. And seeing him being totally in line with the infamous Mitchell temperament, I don't think he'll listen to anyone... totally agree on this one, let's hope for the best! -
Relentless, the River of Time Carries Us All
Celian commented on Celian's story chapter in Relentless, the River of Time Carries Us All
I think it's safe to say the are already an issue... It hurts to watch... right? While in theory a nice option, this would be humiliating, now especially. In a year or maybe two, not so much anymore. But even telling Matthew she's not enjoying their bettime activities would probably break something in him. Absolutely right. Henry is going through a lot, that's true. At least he has some older brother figures. As for Sawyer... you will get an answer soon
