She has a story. I feel sorry for her, but I also can’t excuse the choices she has made in reaction to those circumstances. I don’t know if I will ever tell it, but she too is a product of a complex set of innate and external circumstances.

The man’s mind was working quickly. His hate-filled eyes bore into the dark-haired detective in the driver’s seat before shifting to the federal agent next to him. They knew his name and his base of operations. Jason Rizzo wondered what else they knew. His subconscious tracked their course through the busy city streets. It was difficult not to smile. The incompetent fools hadn’t bothered to frisk or restrain him. It would be so easy to draw the sub-nose revolver hidden on his left a

I had fun picking things up with Joshua and Marcus (and Abe). It was a nice, and needed break.

I'm glad you liked it @wenmale64! I appreciated your comments immensely!

Welcome to the Land of Lincoln, @Tris. I second your well-wishes and hope is a good day for all in the states (elsewhere too of course). I had a good afternoon/evening with family as well.

No? Yes? Technically, I suppose it is both a prologue and an update, but there are so many things I have yet to write down. Don’t give up on Daniel and Juan, or maybe even John. ❤️🩹

Thursday November 28th, 2024 Marcus woke up alone. Joshua had been distant and depressed since Marcus had arrived home five days before for fall break. He had so far been unwilling to talk about what was bothering him. The younger man rolled out of bed and headed for the bathroom. Six minutes later, he found Joshua sitting in the kitchen staring into a mug of cold coffee. Prying the mug from his hand, Marcus dumped its contents down the drain. He refilled it with hot coffee from t

Thursday October 31st, 2024 Joshua stepped out of his office in search of lunch, counting the fifteen steps to the refrigerator. The suit bags hanging in the mudroom made the man smile as he passed by. He would be leaving for Champaign shortly to attend a costume party on the University of Illinois campus as Marcus’ plus one. Joshua couldn’t remember a year in which he had enjoyed Halloween, but he could barely contain his current excitement. He had spent quite a bit of time

Joshua struggles with painful memories and emotions when he is invited to his family’s Thanksgiving celebration. His boyfriend Marcus steps in to help him through what promises to be an emotional day as they both peel back another layer of their own childhood trauma and learn that they do, in fact, have many things to be thankful for. Note: Joshua and Marcus first appeared in We Hold These Truths to be Self-Evident. Many familiar characters from that story as well as Kept Boy to Made Man will make appearances. This story will reveal hints to many character’s futures.

For anyone interested, The Secret Garden is a classic English Lit children’s novel (missed by most boys because society can be stupid about some things). It is available for free in it’s original form (https://www.gutenberg.org/cache/epub/17396/pg17396-images.html). There is also a modern english version out there if you find the Yorkshire dialog challenging.

I love everything about your observations @Mattyboy!

This is very much how it feels to write it too! So many things are happening with so many people. It is interesting releasing this as I write it. I know the end game and the main plot that needs to be told, but choosing where to focus and how to reveal the story is a fun and dizzying challenge. I have new appreciation for television drama writers for sure!

Thursday, June 25th, 1992 “Hey Micah, good morning,” Juan said as he slipped into the guestroom of his mother’s apartment. The detective stopped short as the scene that greeted him brought back memories of the previous morning. Micah was not in the bed where Juan expected to find him. He was naked once more, curled up on the comforter which had been spread out on the hardwood floor in the corner of the room. The boy’s scared eyes met his. Gone was the child Thomas had coaxed

It is ultimately a story of hope, but the journey to get there is not short or straight. Thank you for reading and responding!

Thanks for saying hi! Thanks to everyone for dropping notes and thoughts! Things are shifting as the situation becomes better known, paths are chosen, and characters commit. I am currently taking a crash course on cyber communications in 1992! Chapter 15 is well on its way.

“I hope it will work out too. There are not a lot of people I trust to take care of him. He is a very frightened and traumatized boy,” Juan said into Sandra Mack’s cordless phone from his seat at her kitchen table. “Yes, we’ll be there around eight unless we hear from you. Thank you, Mami … I love you too.” He disconnected the call, setting the phone in the center of the small table before sitting back in the well-used ladderback dining chair. He didn’t know what they would do if John

Thank you all for the encouragement, and for sticking with the story even through its darker moments. I never knew how much I needed to tell a story like this. I never knew how much I needed to tell a story in general. In some ways, I am finding myself right along with so many of these characters. My trauma is different, but many of the effects feel similar. Thank you for making me feel less unwanted! Much love!

Never in Daniel’s career had he found himself torn in so many directions. What remained of his small field team was converging on Charles Miller's home following Special Agent Fisher’s update over the radio. It had been only minutes between the arrival of the Buick and the declaration of a capture, a death, and the rescue of two more children. He desperately needed more information. He looked around Carl Jenkins' living room. Juan had called a lawyer, one man, yet there were now five pe

He has, and you did.

I hated this back story. I didn’t want to write it. I wanted Stanley and the twins to be happy together. I hate the man calling himself William and the predators he represents. Stan, apart from being mortally naive was a dedicated light in his corner of the world. He simply lacked the knowledge and means to make a difference in the way the world dictates. He needed a Roger Cicero before buying the boys he loved.

Please don’t!

Yeah that wasn’t written very clearly. Thanks for catching it! Indeed. I cleaned up that sentence. Thank you both!

Daniel Janick looked around the basement. It was relatively clean, despite being old and unfinished. There was a small open bathroom space, recently added which consisted of a toilet, sink, and shower. There were no walls or doors in the small open space, just stone walls, a concrete floor, and a grid of support beams holding up the modest home above. His eyes came to rest on Juan who was on his knees trying to comfort and engage the traumatized boy they had literally stumbled upon. The

This made me laugh, which I needed. Writing it now, but it’s hard to see what I’m typing through the tears.

This is a big chapter for several storylines. The story is the biggest scope I’ve ever attempted. I am glad it is keeping you engaged!
