Friday, June 19th, 1992 Roger Cicero sat behind his large and ornate mahogany desk. It matched the paneling and built in shelves that lined the almost-forty-year-old lawyer’s office. The more I got to know them, the more real Joshua and Marcus became. It means a lot to hear from others who were touched in some way by these characters. What started as a coming out story turned into an essay on many of the specific mental and social challenges faced by gay men as they grow and mature. I wish everyone would find their Joshua or their Marcus, someone to share both the load and the joy of life’s journey. Thanks for reading and responding!

A beautiful and sorrowful slice of life, dealing with loss and saying goodbye. I’d call it a "coming of middle age” story, focused on a part of life we often leave untold. Thank you for sharing this tale. Much love!

A thoughtful and compelling coming of age/coming out tale. I loved the diverse exploration of several well thought out and believable characters. There is a lot of life crammed into a few words. Recommended if you enjoy exploring the human experience from many angles. @Mikiesboy leaves the reader in a good place but with a hunger to know more. Well written! Thank you for sharing!

I absolutely loved this story! And I applaud the various issues and views you explored. Life and people are complex, and you did a great job showing several characters trying to figure out how to live lives that remained true to their experience and desires. We easily fall in love with tropes, but the diversity of the human experience is beautiful. I could see a future story (or collaboration… wink, wink) for Charlie and Eddie and their practice. Thank you for sharing!

This story was highlighted in a recent post, so I decided to give it a read. I’m glad it was mentioned, as I would likely never have stumbled upon it otherwise. This one makes you think and feel. I’m a fan of a good shifter story. This certainly fits the bill. The writing started out a bit rough, but the story kept me in it. The writing and the story just kept getting better and better. I can’t commend @astone2292 enough on his willingness to stick with it and grow as a writer. I especially like the character development. Each character is unique and stays consistent. That is hard to do. It is clear there has been a lot of time spent thinking about the story outside of what we get to read. Thanks for taking me to another place that is mostly believable and very fun! I'm very excited to read the next story!

I just wanted to say thanks for a great week! I’ve enjoyed my first week as an official member and appreciate being a small part of this community. It still feels like "your community” but a goal of mine to make it feel like “our community.” It’s a me problem, not a you problem. I think it is something I can control. Thanks for the warm welcome. The last three weeks had been a whirlwind, or perhaps a category five hurricane. The landscape of Joshua’s life had been transformed almost completely, and not gently. Everything that had seemed certain and stable had been upset or uprooted; he felt exposed and vulnerable, his weaknesses stressed to the point of breaking. Uh, yeah…. He was. Thanks for reading and responding @drsawzall. I also love the past, and enjoy highlighting connections that are not always obvious or mainstream. I crammed a lot into 4700 words. From personal experience, I know that the mind and emotions tend to be a bit manic in personal crisis moments. Inspiration comes from seemingly innocuous or irrelevant triggers that can lead to an epiphany. Describing that in writing is no easier than expressing it in real life. I’m glad it seemed to make sense!
