  1. I recall seeing that same picture or one similar to it. Drone-usage did indeed come into its own under President Obama. It's just that I'm not so sure that there is an end-game where anyone wins. I think I'll go outside and sit in my dandelion patch...
  2. An intriguing chapter for sure. With the number of drones already being used in wars in Syria, Iraq and elsewhere, while the 'pilots' sit back on their bases in the home countries; robotic tanks, like self-driving vehicles that can make decisions, will we soon sit back and watch our wars play out on the nightly news? While I want to believe in intelligent people always being in control, the reality is that the corporations and oligarchs already dictate where we go and who we are to fight. Primo, the First (of course he was) could easily be turned into a weapon of war against the fundigelicals of JECHIS.

    Ciao Oasis

I'll remain hopeful that our band of 'savages' travels and innoculates others with dreams of life w/out the damned religiosities. But afterall, what are the giant mega-corporations but 'religions' of their own, with loyal followers? Our Lady of Disney with its own shrines for the adoring masses? The Church of the Walmartians? The Pepsi-istos? the Coca-cola fiends? and then the entertainment conglomerates / religions of Faux, and the cable networks, among others.
  4. So, Perseus becomes our first martyr? From such humble beginnings great movements and insurrections are born. An underground anti-christian/JE/IS organization may be in our future, although they'll have to steer any interest of the new christianistic overlords in Oasis. Create a new oasis and give it a name that no one will ever suspect of being anti or pro-anything...call it Nickelback...😉
  5. So the servants may have been JECHIS spies, who knows? I wonder though, whether some of these servants' skills might not still be needed? Are there some garden seeds that we don't know about yet? Will 1 or 2 of the teenagers escape to the outside world and be subjugated or worse made into spies to keep each other alive?
  6. Are we about to see food shortages? These can be seen to bring on all types of ''Modest Proposals" a la Jonathan Swift. I would think though in a world where that is used, we would see an endtime as the world consumed itself.
  7. Since Television is the opiate of the masses (Marshall McLuan?), "...You can bet your bottom dollar the one thing JECHIS won’t get rid of is the telly." Our civilized societies rely on TV (and the attendant viewer-tracking devices) and its Faux news, right-wing-controlled corporations, all identical to the 'bread and circuses' that the Romans used to keep their citizens subdued, happy and under control. I object to much of what is on TV, so I have never had one in my house. Why should I pay for programming I disagree with to be piped into my house? The Oasis is a great concept, but it seems to be as much a self-induced prison as much as a libertine oasis. Glad that Hercules and Hylas have found each other after these centuries apart.
  8. I'm glad to see Mort come on the scene. His resourcefulness will be most welcome to our guys. There is a modicum of hope here. And so the ending begins? Or is this first, the interlude.
  9. Not having ever lived in that situation, I do not know what my reaction would be or what my actions would become. It has happened, but in a world where the concentration of wealth and power is wielded by corporations and fewer and fewer oligarchs and theocrats, it's like trying to compress 10 lbs of potatoes into an 8 lb bag, there is a breaking point, when we reach that global threshhold where there will be massive insurrections over resources controlled by those oligarchs and corporations, who will have us fight each other so they can continue their control. There will be no place safe on earth.
  10. Your characters' reactions are my own. I see despair and hopelessness. I'm now waiting for a small insurrection in Townsville, when the townspeople realize that these 'Brisbane Bombers,' for a short time may have given them a sliver of hope. Now, what-to-do, what-to-do...

    On the Run

There are some radical Christianists from the US that went to Uganda and other countries and were instrumental in getting those places to pass very strong anti-LGBT laws by spreading their Christianistic lies. They were very proud of themselves for doing so. Right now, whether it's Myanmar and the ethnic cleansing of the Rohingya people, Muslim countries destroying artifacts of other religions (Buddhist shrines in Afghanistan), Jews/Palistinians, Christianists stirring up hate everywhere they can...we're seeing more hate caused by religious groups than ever before. It's time to end their tax-free status and more...

    Unpleasantness

Such a sad chapter; however, sometimes underground resistance movements are started by small acts civil disobedience. I'm waiting for some locals, or Bart's group to begin that process. Pirate radio stations and TV stations off shore or that move around could be a start. The internet/web is not safe, since that can be controlled and turned off quite easily.

    On the Run

This 'future' as some might call it is already the letter of the law in many Muslim countries, where women can't go out alone without a male family member escort; where they can't travel without a male family member, where they can't hold jobs, go to school, drive. Some might say that the Islamists are trying to take us back 1200 years; while some Christianists/fundi-gelicals would take us back hundreds of years as well. Scarily well written!
  14. ...And so the plot 'sickens' (and thickens)!!!
  15. Great chapter. Now we are seeing the world's leading and most problematic theocracies retreating into their corners. The JECHIS-crats and other fundi-gelicals gather to be the first ones to offer salvation and protection from the 'others,' to fight over the scraps. Will we see the start of an underground defense/offense force to take back their country? The military has been strangely silent with this takeover. However, in the US, we've already seen the infiltration of the armed services by fundi-gelicals, trying to convince the lowest soldier that he/she is doing god's work, so it may be much the same in Aus.

    Plans

Building implosions are exciting to watch, particularly when they occur over a timed period and use different colored explosives. Wasn't there a song whose chorus went in part, 'boom, boom, out go the lights?' Go Team Miguel, Go!!

    The Inspection

All three of those JECHIS-ciples better watch themselves. I'm waiting for Fidel and company to contact or be contacted by Mort and others from previous books by the author, who will mount a multi-pronged attack, using the internet/www/dark-web against the JECHIS-crats. Let the gathering begin! I can see an eventual chapter being called, "Cry 'Havoc!', and let slip the dogs of war." (with apologies to Shakespeare's Julius Caesar).

    Disintegration

Unfortunately, there are enough fundigelicals in positions of real power that the line, the separation of church and state, has become a dotted line at best and erased at most levels. Politicians now seem to (or actually do) put their hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold their bible. I thought i had figured out that JECHIS was something like 'Jesus Eats Charlatans, Heathens in his Soup,' or something meaningful like that.
  19. Lance and co. were a side show, although an important one. JECHIS is still out there, a who or what, or a well-organized 'them.' I hope they remembered to take the amputated toe with them. What happened to the lookout? Will he be the one who gets the information to JECHIS about how several of their valued believers were disposed of by heathens?
  20. In the US, it's too late, sincewe already are being ruled by the oligarchs. Instead of 'draining the swamp' as promised, the POTUS has mined the depths of the swamp. He's a glorified real-estate agent who excelled at marketing his family name and made money. Do you really think he personally 'knows' all of those people in his cabinet and in the life-time federal judgeships? He's being told by the oligarchs/autocrats who to nominate. Everyone no matter their affiliation needs to vote this year and every year in every country and complain like hell the rest of the time.

    OBC Chapter 21

This was a great wrap-up to a roller-coaster of a story. Thank you for taking us on the journey with you. I look forward to more of your writings and will probably go back to reread some of the stories as well.
  22. Well done!! I have thoroughly enjoyed this story from the beginning to this very tidy, and anxiety-ridden ending. I look forward to reading more of your work. I know 'winter's coming,' down under, but enjoy it nonetheless.
  23. The building up in this chapter is like long and sensuous foreplay and 'edging,' bringing the reader to the brink of thinking something is about to happen (like a great orgasm) and it doesn't, but then it builds again, and again...
  24. Candlestick. Dining Room. Woodchipper? A new twist on the old board game 'Clue.' Only this time there was no Butler, just a lot of helpers. Oh well, no great loss.
  25. So glad that Mort has found his love at last and has also found his biological father.
