The Dancer - 1. Chapter 1

A poem dedicated to my friend Justin. Long may you dance.

The Dancer

If you just looked quickly you wouldn’t notice

The strength that lies beneath that slender form.

His body tightens as the music starts

And his movements are anything but cautious.

Each movement is passionate and alive

Which brings a beauty that can’t be denied.

Each twist is perfection

And you wonder if he will survive.

The dance is intense

For the story it tells is bittersweet.

A lover dying before his time

Leaving behind one with no defense.

The heartbreak is undeniable as he dances

Leaving those who see it moved to tears.

For a moment he is shattered

But the audience is captured in a trance.

Then dance ends in a pool of light

While the dancer seems to be frozen in time.

Applause fills the silent space

While he vanishes into the night.

I love poems and something about your poem moved me. I enjoyed the way you played with words and sorry if I'm not being coherent. Although I love reading poems, I don't know the technical side of it so please excuse me. Well what I'm trying to say is that I enjoyed reading your poem so much. Thanks!
I am glad that the poem evoked a response from you. Word choice in poetry is much harder than in literature. You have a limited time to get your message across. It is one of the reasons I do both. Keeps my mind active and forces me to work on my word choices to truly express my meanings. Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my poem.
