My Gift To You - 3. How Things Are

After a tiring day at work or a day off full of chores

Remember that I’m here waiting to listen to your worries

At the end of a happy day spent with family and friends

I’ll hold your hand and reminisce with you

There’ll be times I’ll stumble and fall on my knees

But I’ll get up a better person than I was because of you

I cannot promise to be your perfect person

All I can do is assure you that I’m always here when you need me

At the end of a storm which blackened the otherwise blue sky

I’ll be your first ray of sunlight or a rainbow with its many colors

When you think that you’re just a face in the crowd

Remember that to me you are the brightest of stars

It amazes me how people sometimes neglect how wonderful you are

When they pass you by and not realize what you are

A wild flower in an otherwise barren landscape

Or an oasis in the harsh and tempestuous desert

Amidst the busy and noisy streets of urban living

You are the calm that fills me with contentment and gives me sanctuary

At times when I am lost and don’t know what to do

I come to you and you point me at the right direction

When I told you that we’ll work on this relationship together

I thought it meant doing what is best for you and me, how wrong I was

It’s not as easy as that though when you look at it the first time it does

In what we have, the keyword is ‘we’ and that is what we have to work on

You are the softest of whispers that puts a smile on my face

In the stillness of night when everyone’s fast asleep and dreaming

The caress that sends shivers on my skin and makes me feel wanted

After a harrowing day which makes me long for bed and hide under the covers

The music keeps on playing whenever I’m with you

And we move our bodies to its beat, though no sound could be heard

A smile can only last for so long until the lips that carry it grows tired

But my smile is unending because I smile for you and you alone
