Secrets that I keep - 1. untold

Cruel taunts replaced words of encouragement.

A slap on the hand, when I really needed a pat on my back.

You knocked me to the floor so many times.

The cold hard ground became more comforting then a warm embrace.

Forgiven? Maybe someday.

Forgotten? Never!

I lie to myself. What you did has no effect on me.

The truth, after all these years, it’s still part of who I am.

I swore to keep your secret.

You told me that everyone would hate me…blame me…that it was all my fault.

I never told.

In the end, the only person to hate me…was myself.

I’m going through a hard time right now. I deal with things the only way I know how, by writing. I’m sorry for the difficult subject, but thank you for your understanding.

Working through your feelings about the past can be difficult. It is a fine line between synthesizing so you can move on and stewing or worrying something until it consumes you. I have found that being thankful for the little joys, smiles, and kind words that I feel, see or hear on a daily basis can help put life into perspective so that I don't let the things I hate come to define me.

Your poem is heartfelt and I encourage you to keep writing! :)

I hope that getting these thoughts/feelings out in the open helps you to deal with your pain in the way that you need to. Tricky to find the right words to repsond to something like this except to wish you well and offer support. It's a brave and powerful piece of writing.
Thanks, It was hard to write. I usually dont do poetry, it's too personal but these words have been shouting in my head for days, I had to get them out.

This was one of the hardest pieces I've writen. I needed to stop hiding from myself. I thought that ignoring the truth was better, but it was time to let it out. Thanks for reading. :)

 and thank you for sharing. Sometimes, its the only way to get it out of the system.

Poetry like this touches deep inside... and... grips us with an iron fist. The only emotion I can feel seeping out is a ton of love for one of the most sensitive persons i know.

Hope things get better soon, you know you'll have all my best wishes and a hug every time you even wonder if you need it.

Thanks Frosty. It was really hard, made me nervous opening up so much of myself. Was worried how people would react. (can never have too many hugs)

Our pain may not be exactly alike, but I feel if you read one of my blogs on myspace you might find there are not so far apart. So, I think I can say I feel your pain and let you know you are not alone.
Thanks Billy, I don't do Myspace or Facebook, but if you post them here on GA, I'll check them out. Poetry is personal and hard enough to write, let alone post for everyone to see, but thanks for reading.
