Just Some Poems - 9. time

its just gone midnight,

silence is sporadic,

thoughts are slow.

howling of powerful winds,

branches scratching on windows,

leaves rustling in the dark.

thoughts of you are louder,

but only in my mind,

we can only exist there.

we are of different standing,

yet in my dreams,

we are of same emotion.

they say time is like the ocean,

as we can only hold a little in our hands,

and slips through our fingers like sand.

time goes by as i sit silent,

as i watch from a distance,

existing in the distance.

a loud clock strikes once,

twice,

thrice.

once have i dreamt of a future containing joy,

twice have i cried due to the unduly pains of love,

thrice have i awoken to thoughts of a life with you.

Chapter Comments

I'm reading this poem again tonight, and a storm is whipping outside. The mood matches the poet's mindset, and make it eerie for me.

The poet also breaks my heart a little, and I feel his pain. As far as I can remember, this is the second time the beloved is referred to as being of a "different standing," and somehow that makes me sad.

Love should be the great equalizer.
