Limerick's loony bin and other crazy sh% - 2. Day 1 - Day 5
April*
Sometimes I write a poem a day
Just because it’s the month before May
I rack my brain
Drink a glass of champagne
And push the dullness of winter away
Write a poem of not too many words about April
Tireless Traveler*
Tireless Traveler
See new art
See old art
See more art
Dance in a graveyard
Watch a child play
Try different hats
Sleep at whimsical places
Listen to a strange tune
Breathe in unexpected scents
Taste a fabled dish and plain soup
Onward to more amazing wonders
Visit La Serenissima
Feel a unique touch
Emerge in rolling thunder
Let foreign winds caress your bare skin
Swim among colorful fish
Enjoy
Argue with a friend
Sit beside a friend
Embrace the rain
Speak a word in a different language every day
Be brave
Kiss your love
Never stray from curious exploration
Bounce off an idea or a line from one of W.S. Merwin’s poems
Broken bird?*
...who wants to see a bird almost fly?
Me!
I want to see determination gleaming in its eyes
I will admire it for defying the odds
I will cheer it on when it shakes its feathers and welcomes spring
I will listen to its haunting song
I will whoop when its partner answers
I will rejoice when it tentatively spreads its wings, and the sunlight transforms them into a bejeweled mantle
I will laugh when they groom each other’s plumage
Watch the bird that almost flies.
Some lines from Mary Oliver poems that we could use as jumpstarts or poem
Peter
Drink up and toast to Peter.
For a month he wrestled with meter,
For a day, he bought roses and whiskey too
All from dipping his wick into
Where it doesn’t belong, the cheater.
Three weeks he sleeps on the floor
His back is terribly sore
His junk is infected
He still is rejected
And finally shown the door
The Jacaranda Tree*
I walked below your brothers' blooming crowns,
Admired their feather-like bi-pinnate leaves
while violet blossoms rained down on me
I wished I could have one in the garden
Then I spotted you in that blister pack
Between sun cream, silly hats and flip-flops,
Though you'd never flourish in my winter
I bought you to live on my window sill
beside the olive tree and tangerine
you found your spot in my own Tenerife
Write a poem to or about a tree you have loved in your lifetime, one,
that has meant more to you than most.
Thank you @Valkyrie for your insight, encouragement and lots of fun and laughter
