Breakdown - Poem - 1. Chapter 1

All of a sudden, I’ve lost my footing

No warning.

And I fall.

I fall backwards into a dark hole, a dark pit

I’m falling really fast; my head can’t keep up with what’s happening

Automatically my arms reach out, hands trying to grab at anything to stop myself or slow myself down

I’m frightened on how fast I am going.

All I can see is the sky above me

And I scream for help

But the sky is getting smaller and the darkness around me getting longer

I scream for help over and over

My voice feels like an echo ripping out of me but it comes out as soft a gentle whisper

My legs are kicking out, my body’s useless attempt to stop gravity for pulling me down

I can’t see what it is I’m falling into and I can’t turn around to see.

Or rather,

I’m worried if I turn around, I won’t be able to turn back towards the last of bit of the bright sky I can still see.

At last, a rope flies down to me.

I catch it.

My heavy heart is grateful that I have stopped.

Now I just need the strength to pull myself up on this rope.

I still see a little bit of sky above me.

I am so exhausted already

So, this is going to be physically hard to pull my body up.

But I am willing to try.
