Remembrance - 4. Gravesite Visit

My mother had always asked that I celebrate life with her and not to be one who spent their time piling flowers on a grave that she couldn't enjoy. For the most part I am not one to go to the grave. However sometimes you need the connection and that old trait of never going somewhere without bringing something kicks in. So when I do go I bring her favorite flower, a rose.

I stand here watching the snow fall

Covering the ground and trees here

Trying hard not to bawl

Times passes by and days grow shorter

But my memories of the past

Wrap me in joy like a comforter

It is hard not to have what once was

To live life and enjoy what is now

Accepting all my truths and flaws

I miss your smiles, your love, and your scent

I remember your laughs, joys, and times with me

Forgetting any fight or argument

Life goes on and times does pass

The light of your memory still shines bright

Yet your grave is now covered in grass

The holidays are here once more

I force the smile back in place

Hiding pain deep in my core

A flower here I place on your grave

As tear slides free to fall

Acting once more brave

The first flake of snow falls down

While I leave with all my memories

Taking care not to make a sound

A final glance and silent prayer

I try to be a dignified man

Holding on with gentle care

I face the day anew

Living my life

Being true

Just something that stayed with me after going to have a talk with my mother. Usually I don't bother going to the grave, but I guess with how I have been feeling I needed it. I had begun this last year, but finally have finished it.
