Divine Love - 1. Divine Love

Ganymede

Ganymede
Ravishing beauty
Filled the god’s heart
With mirth and joy

Zeus
Father of gods
And Father of men
Infatuated by thee

Ganymede
Beautiful youth
Abducted by Zeus to
The divine heavens

Charming cupbearer
Beloved of the gods
For all eternity
Placed in the sky

Aquarius
Immortal star
Raised by Zeus to
A higher love

          ~~**~~

Ode to Hephaestion
Sung by Alexander the Great

Beloved
Dear friend
At your grave
I stand and weep

Immortal gods only
Know eternal heights
The awful truth
I did not believe

Hephaestion
Beloved and friend
I live in the shadows
I dwell in the night

Hear
My solemn pledge
My vow of love
I will never leave you

Hephaestion
Beloved and friend
I will rise to a greater power
To justify our love

          ~~**~~

Ode to Patroclus
Sung by Achilles

Beloved, dear friend
Here I stand and weep
Immortal gods only
Know eternal heights

My armour you donned
And rode into combat
In your lust for blood
You defied my command

Patroclus
Beloved and dear friend
I fought for your honour
And avenged your death

Now I live in the shadows
And I dwell in the night
Yet on behalf of our love
I will revive and I will even rise

My hand I’ll reach out to Aquarius
Immortal star, placed in the sky
His gracious light shall forever shine
On our love that is pure and divine

I always love the classic Greek myths and legends. You did a wonderful job transposing those ideas into this story. I really liked this.

Really interesting slices of classical life. Good reminder of how gay it all was in ancient Greece! Something really different and intriguing for this anthology. Liked! :)

Very nice - I remember the stories from my colleges days of Greek Mythology. All three of these spoke of love but also sorrow. I love your work - well done again.

Wonderful poems. They linked together perfectly. I love how you have chosed three lesser known 'characters' from greek myth. Strangely, I have been working on a story involving Ganymede and it was quite a shock to see him here. A good shock, thankfully. Awesome work.
