   (2 reviews)

On the night Rover Stilles flees from a psychopathic father, he meets the alluring Slade, a boy as beautiful as he is mysterious. Becoming enamored with him was more than Rover could ever ask for as secrets truly "out of this world" are slowly, and reluctantly, revealed.

Rover must put forth his courage, resolve, and faith to the ultimate test as he evades his father's ruthless grasp and all the dangerous uncertainty that surrounds his new found acquaintance.

What I Loved

The action scenes were well written and very descriptive, especially the ones where Slade takes Rover flying.

I really liked the dynamic that developed between Slade and Rover, as Slade slowly gained Rover’s trust.

Sett really is a true friend.

What Could’ve Been Better

Why doesn’t Rover get the police involved?

Spoiler

The bodyguards honestly felt like they were magic with how they kept showing up everywhere without any explanation. How did they find Sett’s apartment or the party? How did they find Rover on the mountain?

I felt like the ship was a lost opportunity. It only really appeared for like one scene and then it was gone.

What happened to Sett after the bodyguards kidnapped Rover? Shouldn’t he be concerned that Rover didn’t come back like he promised? Or is he just pissed at him? It felt like Sett was completely forgotten about once the story entered its final stretch.

The alien species was never really explained.

Man, the ending. I thought that was some BS. What does Rover have in this world? (Maybe Sett, but perhaps he can come with him.) A dad who wants to murder him? Rover is on a suicide mission if he wants to fix things with that man, and there will be no Slade to save him this time. Plus, I think his dad having a change of heart would be too unrealistic given his behaviour.

Miscellaneous Thoughts

Spoiler

Is Slade like… a reverse vampire or something? Haha.

Verdict

I really wanted to like this story. The plot started out strong, but as it went on, I felt like it went everywhere and nowhere at the same time. The ending didn’t really do anything for me either.

Maybe I just didn’t get it.

2 stars.
